Pay up, or NTTA wil publically shame reach out to remind you that you owe them money
At its meeting today, the board of the North Texas Tollway Authority approved a plan to publish the names of every person who has 100 or more unpaid tolls. It will be an updated list of more than 25,000 drivers who owe something like $12.5 million.

I can get behind that. I'm too cheap to pay tolls, and I want my fellow cheapskates to suffer with me on Central, not get a free ride on the tollway. Public shaming is always a great motivator. Come to think of it, why even stop at a list? How about putting them in stocks in Dealey Plaza?

NTTA spokesman Michael Rey stopped me right there. This has nothing to do with publicly shaming violators, he said. "We figured we'd get that. This is to let them be aware that they future toll enforcement." Per a board vote today, that could now include lawsuits.

I looked again at the press release and sure enough, it says it right in the subhead. It's an "outreach effort."

Okay, fine. Having your name buried among 25,000 others on an obscure government website hardly constitutes a public shaming. What will constitute a public shaming is when people like myself start typing in famous people's names. I'm starting my list of names right now.

The exact same thing happened to me. I had just one toll that was in the wrong name but had my plate number. I called repeatedly, tried the website. Now I have a bill for over $200 on my hands. I typically avoid tolls if I can specifically so I don't have to deal with this inefficiency.

THERE IS NO FAST LANE LEGALLY IN TEXAS!!!!!! It's considered a *passing* lane. I do agree if the speed is 70 and you are driving 60 moveeeeeeeee over, or get on a dart bus. Also if the speed is 70 and I am doing 70 and you come up behind me doing 75 or faster  expecting me; to move out of your way,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,FUCK YOU.

The speed limit is 70, so unless you're doing it....SAY OUT OF THE FAST LANE

Just because you drive a Hyundai doesn't mean I can't drive 110 on the tollway.

Strikes me as a possible violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act - I'm reasonably certain creditors aren't allowed to publicly post your (alleged) debts as a collection effort - oh wait, I'm sorry, this is an "outreach" not a "collection"... cue treble damages in 3, 2, 1...

Why not just put liens on their cars so they can't sell or trade them in until they pay the tolls?

the NTTA is so backwards. Reminds me back when Compuserve was in business and your email address was 134319875231035@compuserve.com . Who the fuck can remember all the numbers on their tolltag or wants to pull it out of their car just so they can log onto the NTTA site? If they'd let you link your email and use it as a login, it would be so much easier. /endrant

I see them stopped on 190 all the time. I guess I drive the tollway more than you, idk.

Why do we have Troll roads anyway??? We pay taxes to cover building and maintain roads. If the Highway department can't work within a budget, fire them and get someone that can. Everyone has to live within a budget, EXCEPT THE GOVERNMENT!

...Toll roads are a scam anyway. Beltway 8 in Houstopolis was supposed to become a freeway when it was completed, but TXDOT discovered the loophole of continuing to build and expand the Beltway while deliberately leaving bottlenecks to help perpetuate the scam by fooling the gullible into supporting more builds and expansions, which neither relieve the bottlenecks nor allow the Beltway to finally switch from a toll road to a freeway. ...Granted, I haven't been to Dallas in years, but down here in Austin, the whole SH-45 scam pretty much backfired on TXDOT. Save for one section coming north from Buda and an elevated group of intersections where IH-35 meets the Ben White part of SH-71, the amount of rush hour traffic that actually takes SH-45 to get home has been figured to be only 3-5% of the total rush hour traffic. People know its a scam, a deliberate money grab by TXDOT, and around here we're not fooled. And besides, when you calculate how far around and *out* from Austin SH-45 takes you from your destination, the amount of time spent going back *into* town totally negates whatever time you might have saved. Toll roads have always been a scam. They always will be a scam. And that's why I've only driven a toll road three times in my life. [shakes head at lack of journalistic integrity by the author of this article for perpetuating the scam]

Was that you I saw driving out Turtle Creek near the Quadrangle going at least 50mph? The speed limit being 30. Must have been another self important driver.

Labor strikes by unionized thug mass transit workers would be worse! It's very easy to avoid the toll road, if you want to. :)
