Texas Attorney General Responds To Obama Immigration Announcement With Rather Misleading Tweet

Categories: Politics

Today, President Barack Obama announced an executive order effective immediately that will protect undocumented immigrants under the age of 30 who were brought here as children from deportation for up to two years under a process called "deferred action," giving them time to obtain work permits. The new rule is expected to affect some 800,000 young people.

As the Houston Chronicle explains, though, the order only applies to immigrants who came here before age 16, don't have felonies or multiple misdemeanors, have lived in the United States for five years or more, and are enrolled in school, have graduated from high school, obtained a GED or were honorably discharged from the military.

""This is not immunity. It is not amnesty. It is an exercise of discretion," Janet Napolitano, the homeland security secretary told the New York Times.

Nonetheless, criticism has been immediate -- before President Obama finished his news conference in the Rose Garden this afternoon, even.

"What about American workers who are unemployed while you import foreigners?" yelled a heckler, who appeared to be arguing with the president throughout his speech.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has chosen a subtler route, merely tweeting that Obama has decided to "stop deporting illegal immigrants."

We look forward to the reasonable, non-alarmist debate that will surely follow.

the situation is so bad now in Texas, I think the only way to get the upper hand on illegal immigration and to reduce the amount of illegals in the state is to deploy the Coast Guard or the Military and give them real power to enforce immigration laws. We have millions of Americans out of work, we do not need the million plus here taking jobs for Americans and drawing heavily on all taxpayers programs meant for needy Americans.

have to ask a couple simple question. 1.  Why haven't these kids attempted to become citizens by now?  There's a huge range of ages and it strikes me as funny but guess what?  How about they go APPLY for citizenship? Are they just too lazy?  Does it cost too much?  Is the process too hard? Oh wait, maybe most of them don't want to be US citizens, Americans as Obama claims they already are. Maybe they'd rather wear their Mexican garb and march and protest while waving Mexican flags. That sure doesn't sound like they are very American to me.  But Obama must be right, I mean, after all, he said the private sector is doing great! 2.  Now to the parents.  Same question.  How long have they been here and not bothered to get papers or become a citizen?  What happens to the parents once the kids get a work permit?  Should we start using the addresses of these kids who apply for permits to go round up the other family members who are not going to be able to get permits?  Hell, ship the parents back to their own country because if they have never bothered to become legal, it is well past time to send them home!

To counteract this, Texas needs to simply stop the catch and release program and instead start arresting them for the crimes they are committing.  Once they have a record, BAM, out they go!

 “America is a nation of laws, which means I, as the president, am obligated to enforce the law. . . . There are enough laws on the books by Congress that are very clear in terms of how we have to enforce our immigration system that for me to simply through executive order ignore those congressional mandates would not conform with my appropriate role as president.” President Obama 2011

This doesn't give them an incentive - it just removes a racist barrier. This is, to Mexicans, what Brown v. BOE was to blacks - an acknowledgement of their right to be educated.

Your political acumen and simplistic view of society is on par with your mathematical aptitude. HINT - If you look in the back of the book you will find the solution: African American + Asian + Jewish + Hispanic + Gays + Young Adult + Women vote > 46% (Where Obama is currently sitting in the polls). "offer them some farm subsidies" Believe it or not there are folks of all races/types that do not believe in taking what is not earned. They are part of the 51% of the population that are not currently receiving benefits of some sort from the federal government. I know the idea must be foreign to you.

 They are related because that was the issue that the heckler brought up. Dumbass.

Abbot and the Republicans are speechless on this matter. He's looking to see what Rick Perry says, who agrees in allowing tuition for Illegal immigrants. What a lying, misleading tweet. The President caught them off guard and this act will single handily galvanize the Hispanic vote for him. He has the African American, Asian, Jewish, Hispanic, Gays, Young Adult, and Women vote. Now its time to go after the angry white male. Since the angry white male are mostly rednecks and farmers, I would say he offer them some farm subsidies. It might not get all of their votes, but some of them will secretly vote for the President.

The level of discussion in response to this particular blog by many is truly appalling.

@Sanders Kaufman

I don't believe there is a racist barrier, they use this tactic to make us afraid of enforcing our laws. Was it racist of them to enter this country illegally? Mexicans are not the only ones in this country illegally, they are just the one here in larger numbers. But the fact remains they are here illegally, we do not need immigration reform we need to enforce the laws we have. What are we to do in the next twenty years when the next wave of illegals are protesting in our streets for immigrations reform. The only reform we need is to start fining, arresting and deporting all who have and are breaking the laws of this country.
