Supreme Court Upholds Health Care Law

Update at 9:40 a.m.: Check out the full decision below.

Original post:
We were planning to try to localize the Supreme Court's decision this morning on the Affordable Care Act, do some sort of informed, level-headed analysis like the DMN's Michael Lindenberger prepared last night. But that would require a lot of work. So instead, we're going to sit back, drink an early-morning cocktail, plow through the decision, and watch Twitter explode. We'll post a copy of the opinion when it's available, but SCOTUSBlog is reporting that the individual mandate was upheld as a tax with a vote from Chief Justice John Roberts and that the Medicaid provision has been limited but not invalidated. Their conclusion:

The bottom line: the entire ACA is upheld, with the exception that the federal government's power to terminate states' Medicaid funds is narrowly read.

No, actually they weren't.

Ah, it was perfectly sustainable until Bush. Actually, it wasn't, but that's immaterial now.

Well when our MORAN IN CHEIF starts decreeing DEATH PANELS, I'm sure he'll be GLAD to sign you up. We need to get down to basics people. FREEDOM! Read the Texas GOP FREEDOM Planks. We need to get Jesus Christ back in our schools. We need to KICK OUT the libtard stinking pinko teachers and their socialist UNIONS. We need to elliminate critical thinking in our schools - thinkning that leads to questioning set beleifs. And we need to require a Constitutional Amdnedment to bring PRAY back into school. And get the illegals mexicans out of our school system and out of our county ONCE AND FOR ALL. LEt them leach off their own county. I pray everyday that Mitt Romney will come and kick out the socialists in office. BArak Obama - WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE.

Present me a relevant point to counter, and I will. In the meantime, you continue to make up "facts" about what the future will hold for this bill and act like we must all defend AHA against your made up misgivings. Sorry, I'm not wasting my time debating one man's completely fabricated bullshit.

We need right-to- die laws now!!  And I hope there is some limitation on what's covered.

This particular comment wasn't part of the debate, was it?  Just commenting on your example of someone being misinformed about ACA,.. and it's hard not to think of Fox News when thinking of misinformation about ACA.  However, I did not suggest that you watch Fox News, or that your opinions were regurgitation of Fox News talking points, or anything else like that.   And I have no idea what Sault Ste. Marie has to do with any of this.

You ARE aware that Canada already has a single-payer healthcare system, right? Right?

Here's a thought; if it's a tax does that mean it will be administered by our little friends at the IRS? We're screwed.

I want to know who passed the law taking away my paragraph breaks. Damn commies.

"For now.  I think the fine (ahem, "tax") scales up to 2.5% sometime in the future" That's still one-half of my present cost of 5%.

And it's a popular program with doctors, is widely available, and the quality of care is great, right? And, best of all, it's mathematically sustainable!

A lot more?   4 percent more, so my gambit pays if I don't need insurance for two years. And when that 100K tumor is removed, I drop the insurance. OTOH, 5% of my income has gone to insurance, and we haven't used it in 8 years. My math works, which is why the fines (taxes) will be raised substantially - after the election - The government has calculators too.

They do not have to be "children of undocumented immigrants", and I do understand the law he has passed.

Medicare has a minisule administrative expense ratio compared to all the private insurers.  That's a fact.

OK, so it's a Tax.  Which will save lives. Conversely: By the time you read this, the Iraq war will have cost more than $805Billion, with more than 5,000 American soldiers killed.  Lots more wounded.  Soldier's suicides currently outpace combat deaths. It's just nice to see America acting in the best interest of Americans.

Despite all the other mindless drivel in your comment, one piece sticks out to me: "we need to eliminate critical thinking in our schools...." We had a period of human history that came close to accomplishing this (or something very similar, as there were few formal schools at the time).  It was called the Dark Ages.

Bill, nothing is made up. It is all based on the law as written. The relevant point has been presented. If you missed my point, scroll up.No-one has countered it, not even close. I think the problem is two-fold here. I am a conservative, and I am 100% correct, and that can be understandably infuriating for some - but that's really not my problem, is it?

Food stamps are going to save America! I feel a little guilty I've not done my patriotic duty, but I suspect I won't qualify.
