Update at 3 p.m.: Rangers communications chief John Blake sends out the following update:

San Diego, CA--Texas Rangers television play-by-play announcer Dave Barnett will miss the final two games of the team's series in San Diego. He will undergo an evaluation over the next few days after experiencing on-air issues in the eighth inning of Monday's game with what Barnett believes to be the recurrence of migraine headaches.

Rangers radio announcer Steve Busby will handle the television play-by-play duties on Tuesday and Wednesday, working with Tom Grieve. Rangers pre and post-game radio host Bryan Dolgin will join Eric Nadel on the radio broadcasts for the rest of the series.

The Rangers will have no further comment and appreciate everyone respecting Dave Barnett's privacy at this time.

Thank you.

Original post: If you didn't finish out the Rangers explosive (or not) 2-1 victory over San Diego last night, you missed what has to be among the strangest 45 seconds ever of a local sports broadcast. You can listen to the audio here, but to summarize, Dave Barnett's eighth inning play-by-play unravels into nonsense:

A 2-1 game, the tying run at second on a lead-off single by James Hedrick. The go-ahead run is at fifth on what Adams is insisting on calling a botched robbery. What actually happened was his henchman took a piece literally out of...

That's when the folks in the booth at Fox Sports Southwest apparently decide to cut Barnett's mic. Ambient ballpark noise for a few seconds, then Barnett carries on as if nothing happened. Odd, to say the least.

Lewin>Buzz but Anyone>Barnett.  Buzz makes TAG LOL. "He froze like an old Swanson Dinner." IDK, maybe "old Swanson dinners" were before your time.

No, Dave rambled constantly (with useless filler facts).  Steve is from radio which is a different style and will take time to adjust.  At least he talks like someone who has actually played the game and has a sense of humor.  My sound is back on now except for cookie talk.  TAG is much more engaged with Buzz in the booth.

Can anyone shut up Busby?  He's making my ears bleed.

Can anyone shut Steve up?  He rambles constantly and is distracting.  Let us enjoy a few seconds of silence occasionally.  My ears are bleeding.

Busby is really bad.....his jokes are all flat and pointless... he was a mlb star but has floundered for years as a broadcaster...for obvious reasons.. he doesn't have "it", whatever that is, and apparently never will... he is annoying and not the least bit amusing

While we're on the subject, can we please get rid of Knox and the screaming hyenas in the bleachers who are prompted to act like raving lunatics whenever the camera is pointed in their direction? This isn't a Mavs or Stars game, this is baseball. Remember, "chess on grass"?

I plunked down the 20 dollars on MLB audio and usually sync to the visiting team radio broadcast to get a variety of presentations. Last night Ted Lietner was pretty funny for the Padres (in measured doses).

Will we ever get the truth about Lewin? Where's the deep throat informant when you need them?

And tell Steve Busby to give out the score more than once every ten minutes.  There are no graphics on the radio!
