Dwaine Caraway Relaunching Crusade Against Sagging Pants

Categories: City Hall

Councilman Dwaine Caraway announced this morning at the City Council briefing that despite his half-decade long effort to get young men to pull 'em up, Dallas' sagging epidemic is only getting worse.

"It's a doggone shame," he said.

Seems that Caraway recently spotted two young men strolling through the meat department of Walmart, their pants around their knees and their undergarments in plain view.

"I tell you, I'm talking about filthy underwear," Caraway said.

So, Caraway and 500 of his male friends (though women are invited, too) will be in City Hall's flag room on Wednesday at either 1 or 2 p.m. (he said both) to "send a signal about respecting women and young women and ladies and little girls."

Does this mean more billboards? Semi-famous people? Another try and a sagging ordinance? And how does Caraway plan to make this go-round more effective than previous efforts which, by his own admission, haven't kept pants from dropping?

We'll have to wait until next week to find out, but his council colleagues tell him to keep fighting the good fight.

"Thank you for taking up the mantle of having young men respect themselves," said Voincel Jones Hill.

Then Jerry Allen chimed in: "Mr. Caraway, you've been beating this drum since you've been on the council. It's a good drum to beat, and I'll be standing beside you."

As a daily passenger on the DART train, I for one am absolutely in favor of this!  At least two dozen times a day I am in full view of some young punk who thinks it's cool to expose half of his underwear to the world.  It's an idiotic fashion statement.  It's not a fashion statement at all, actually.  It's a public announcement of "I'm a thug.  I have no respect for myself or others.  I am a slave to the hip-hop industry and will do anything or wear anything some flash-in-the-pan rap artist will dictate with his profanity laden diatrabe."  I hear them talking... if you can call it that... using the f-word and the n-word multiple times in loud conversation as if they do not care how offensive their behavior is.  We have a black president now, and just in case anyone wants to accuse me of being racist, I voted for him!  I have a record collection with more black artists than white.  Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Public Enemy, Prince... these artists spoke out to empower young black men into being something more than what society dictated them to be.  Now we have so-called artists and musicians objectifying women, disrespecting authority, and cursing their mouths off.  And all they have succeeded in doing is to drag the African-American male down to the level of a street thug who does not wish to work an honest job, but rather smoke weed, drink 40 ounces, and project the most negative stereotype possible.  There are more hard-working, law abiding citizens riding the DART to work than there are young punks who choose to disrespect themselves and others, and it's high time Dallas bring the city back to the honest citizen.  Fine them, give them tickets, kick them off the train, whatever it takes.  But it's high time someone set an example.  I'm no fan of Caraway, but he's hit the nail right on the head here.  Respect yourself, and others will respect you.  Carry yourself as a punk, and others will assume you are one.

Wonder how many times guys in baggy pants in stores turn out to be shoplifters. Especially when they hold them up with one hand in the front, it looks like they're concealing stolen goods.

When people need to get these types of deliveries made as fast as its possible to do so, they order service from a company that offers emergency courier service. Emergency couriers make it their priority to make a delivery as fast as possible. This means that they will have a vehicle sent out to make the pickup the minute they receive the order for the service.

*Sigh,* they already know that. They simply do not care.

Maybe just publicize that fact that it is sartorial slang in prison for "please fuck my ass."

Why doesn't some designer just start making jeans that already have the underwear showing like the sagging style? This is Dallas. Put a high $$$ price tag on it, a designer name(Dolce, Armani, Seven for all Mankind, etc) and then nobody will have a prob with it. Cool. Next lets start a campaign on women and muffin tops...and other clothing choices that don't fit the person's body type!

Arthur and Archie will probably do it for free.

Yes, they look like morons. We get it. But Mr Caraway, I have a more important item or two to discuss with you: 1. When there is a police-related shooting, can you please not comment until some investigation has been made? Someone getting shot in the back does not mean anything, forensically. As a councilman, your first obligation is to truth and not rumor-mongering, or the agitation of parts of Dallas. It serves nobody. Not even you. 2. Still, still waiting to see some true economic development along East I-30 from Downtown to the Mesquite line. We need more than Wal-Mart over here.

Same add agency as used by the Black Liberation Front. Also, why is the guy have to be white?  So it's not racial?  Maybe its a light skin Latino?
