You Can Have Your Voice Ignored Again Tonight in the Trinity River Toll Road Debate

The Plan.
That's right: Tonight, during an open house and public meeting at the Dallas Convention Center, you can crop-dust NTTA with all your brilliant ideas to save the Trinity River flood plains from the dreaded pavement monster, only to see your suggestions treated like the things my wife leaves at the bottom of the steps: completely ignored and occasionally stepped on.

The open house starts at 5 p.m., followed by the hearing at 7. Get more details in the notice below. The New Guy will be there and will report back if they decide to scrap the whole thing and build the world's longest Crocodile Mile instead.

A little late here but I would want to know:

What are the LIKELY amounts to be received from the Fed, NTTA, and other third parties, especially in light of today's austerity bound budgets.

What is the likely borrowing structure, e.g., will bonds be supported from toll road revenues, will other toll road revenues be pledged, will the City of Dallas guarantee the bonds.

If Dallas is on the hook for the bonds, what will that do to its credit rating.

Has anybody explored the availability and cost of insurance.  Surely the bond holder will demand insurance.

Whatever amount of money magically appears for construction (the mayor used the LBJ project as an example of money that wasn't expected but was eventually found), it will not include the $4-$5 million a year to maintain the road.

Thx.  I like that plan, wait for money to be found.  Do they have a search party or are they just waiting for it to appear?  Incredible.

The mayor has already said he trusts the expert assessment of the COE. In other words, "if something goes wrong, don't blame me!"

Maybe they should just have a Facebook poll instead

I know the tollroad is frequently mentioned as being "limited access", do we know how many/where the exits along the road will be?

Based on what I've read...that's one point....from what I understand you get on at one end and get off at the other...which means it goes right past I-35 and I-30...if memory serves, that's one of the honorable mayor's objections...he insists (INSISTS I TELL YOU) that the city staff figure out a way to provide access to those...which of course increases the cost beyond what is insanely out of reach now.

Crocodile Mile!? How dare you suggest that people from the suburbs or Park Cities could even fathom swimming in anything that isn't an infinity pool fenced in their all to small backyards. Crocodile Mile is for disadvantaged urban youth like parks and greenspace! I bite my thumb at you, sir!

I was going to write Slip n Slide, but then I remembered there was no reptile pool at the end.

here's hoping someone will ask about the proposed gas drilling in the same floodplain that the proposed toll road is situated.

Here is a great idea....let's pave over the river and make ANOTHER highway-maybe, uhhhhhhmmm, a Rick Perry SUPERHIGHWAY that links rail, cars, trains, natural gas drillin', and toxic transport. Gotta love Dallas!  A highway in the floodplain; it's no wonder people think we are hillbillies.

I will have copies of a City of Dallas staff produced map to give out tonight. Wait 'til you see what else is coming...to the Trinity Floodplain: Gas Drilling? Chemicals, Possible Earthquakes and Contamination and.....gas.Come to City Hall on May 16th to hear your City Council and Mayor talk about this issue. Please sign up to speak on that day to the Council if you feel that your water and air are important, especially the air and water in our Parks and Floodplain. Thanks!
