One Million Moms Takes Credit for GCB Getting Canceled, Almost Makes Us Wish It Wasn't

gcb2.jpg
You're probably still recovering from this weekend's news that GCB, the all-cartoon character depiction of Dallas's blonde and faithful, has been canceled.

One Million Moms couldn't be more pleased. They're the American Family Association-backed protest group who's been calling for the big-haired heads of the show's cast since it first aired.

As OMM posted on their Facebook page Monday:

God is using OneMillionMoms.com to help get this smut off T.V.! As the hands and feet for the Lord, we are making a real difference. "GCB" got axed by ABC and won't be coming back for a second season. Praise the Lord! Jesus Christ will not be mocked! #GCB

OMM had been pushing for various companies to quit showing ad spots during the show. Now they're pretty sure they managed to achieve that, despite the fact, as they acknowledge elsewhere on the site, that some of those companies actually block incoming emails from them.

There's also a small possibility that in addition to calling down God's wrath and all, the show's waffling ratings and terrible reviews might have also played a factor in its cancellation. Now Texas caricature fans will have to twiddle their thumbs until June 13,
when the revamped version of Dallas premieres.

But what of One Million Moms? Now that their main foe has been vanquished, will they be content to sit at home and embroider a series of pillows with the text of the entire book of Revelation?

On the contrary! They've still got a number of active campaigns, including a crusade against JC Penney for showing a middle-aged married couple in their most recent catalog, both of whom happen to be women.

More crucially, OMM has launched a new effort against TruGreen, who recently put out a commercial in which some dude exclaims, "What the Fffffff---front yard?"

"The actor begins to say the F-word and then switches to front yard," OMM explains. "This is not enough to cover up what he meant to say. Parents find this type of advertising inappropriate and unnecessary. Does TruGreen desire for our children to have dirty mouths?"

Godspeed, ladies.

Personally I think GCB hit a little close to home for a certain demographic.

Sad really - I think if these people want to rail on something they might go after something like...I don't know...how about the hugely popular show on ___ Family (seriously?) where the lead cast are teenagers under suspicion of murder en masse, where an intimate relationship between a high school student and her teacher is romanticized, another character has a rocky relationship with her sister because her sisters fiance got caught pawing the teen and her sister thought they were having an affair, oh and one of them hides their boyfriend in the basement for a couple episodes...but they only 'make out' right?....they all spend pretty much all of their their time lying to their parents, teachers, police department and each other...while happily rebelling against said authority figures...but we should sympathize with them because they're being blackmailed right? Such wholesome Family fare!!

TV is full of something to offend everyone, if you can't change the channel or be personally responsible for what your child sees and hears then maybe you should not have a TV. Personally I rarely have the time for TV so I watch shows I like on the internet or on dvd...it's not rocket science! Seriously people - take some responsibility for what you choose to have in your own home and leave me to do the same.

OMM, change the channel, put your youngins' to bed. Allow us to all be different. Sorry to see it go. It gave us a great laugh and we needed that in this economy, wars, and general world mess!!

these people have no right to speak for what "parents" find inappropriate and I beleive that they are more hipocritical than anyone they aim to destroy.  Would you beleive God wants his followers to begin 'crusades' against everything that is not written in the Bible. Doubtful.  The Bible does preach tolerance.  Just a thought.  Another good reason why I avoid all organized religion.  I'll stick to the relationship that I have with God.

OMM needs to be cancelled! If they're confident enough in their parenting then TV shows shouldn't be an influence on their children.

Okay "CrackerDaddy" do you really think that eliminating more freedom of speech in this country is the answer? It's not Limbaugh and Beck that are the problems, it's people who listen to them, believe them and follow blindly that are the problem.

First of all, most Americans need to be spoon fed with a laugh track to get the jokes. GCB was not only humorous, it was satire, parody and it was just plain funny -- All of which are guaranteed under the auspices of freedom of speech and press. But now it seems like freedom of religion (Christian Fundamentalists) seems to out weigh the others. The fact that this show was canceled by a group of proud American Moms, who don’t believe in freedom or humor is unfortunate. It’s too bad we can’t cancel OMM, maybe another network like FX or AMC will pick up the series.

That couldn't be more incorrect. The married men you see "turn gay", have always been gay. They are just forced to conform into the lifestyle that is expected of them. Much like forcing a tomboy to wear a dress. She's not really into it, but, she does it because that is what's expected of her.

How can a group of people that obviously has no morals stand up for morals? Ridiculous statement.

This is ridiculous, I'm a Christian and enjoyed the showed. The ladies didn't stop to think that maybe this show could have been something good, as the few episodes began to progress I saw growth in the characters and points of deepened faith, granted with a bit a humor. But I enjoyed the show and saw lots of potential. It's a shame though.

"One million" moms? Oh, right, the 15 bitter old biddies who sit in their little chatroom all day ripping everyone who isn't "one of us"... they got 1K signatures on their petition. SaveGCB already has over 42K signatures... and besides, anyone who thinks the show makes fun of christianity has clearly never actually *watched* the show...

I think we ought to demand truth in advertising with the names of these organizations.

I'll bet "2382 Sexually Frustrated and Overweight Housewives" would be a far more accurate description for this group.

South Park is still running, Jesus will indeed be mocked.

It got shit-canned because the ratings sucked, end of story. They should turn their attention to things that shouldn't be seen by anyone--like the animated diaper commercial with babies shitting for the win.

GCB was an awesome show.  Only Christians not strong in their own faith would be threatened by it.  My husband and I are both Christian, we both know people JUST like the ones depicted in GCB, and loved it for being hilarious, refreshing, and unafraid to show both sides of the argument.  Bring it back, ABC...don't let the OMM crazies win!

Smut?! Hahaha! What the heck is this group for anyways? If you're so concerned about your child, make sure to keep them at home with no television and no computer. Shelter them and let them get culture-shocked when they grow up.

Some of mothers actually MOTHER our children instead of smothering everyone else's kids. Back off OMM and actually watch GCB. I'd rather be friend's with these "Morally" wrong people than your friends.

You can't fix ugly or stupid. The show was a morality play that actually promoted Christian values. It showed uptight Chritians loosenign up, and it showed secular fallen Christians rediscovering their religious roots. What idiots these women are. They need a hobby. We have starving people in the world, and THIS is their problem? Geesh.

leftocenter

Yes, I'm a Christian (religious left) and I watched it...it wasn't terribly offensive at all, just badly written and acted.  And...Schutze...there's no ridiculous "prosperity gospel" in it.  Just a bunch of hypocrites (big surprise there)!  Anyone who calls herself or himself a Christian is a hypocrite, because we will never be Christlike.  You have to embrace that "not one is righteous..."  elsewise, we'll make "evangelical" a dirty word...oh wait, we already did that.  That's a shame.

It is amazing how these Christian women get offended by the truth, anyone living in Dallas has deffinately come accross one of these GCB's, you see them Preaching the Word of the Lord, then turning around Saying your going to Hell because you are gay or immoral, and after all that they head to the Salon to their GAY Hairdresser to fix the SEX HAIR that the personal trainer caused before going home to their HUSBAND.                                                                                                                                                     It would be pretty cool to try and save the TV show just to RUB it in OneMillionMoms SORE KNEES...

The real irony here is that Kristen Chenowith is exactly the kind of hollywood celebrity that organizations like OMM should want getting big television roles.

ABC canceled those shows because they fucking sucked. The pig in me can sometimes sit through a shitty show if there is a hot chick or two in the cast. I would love to do filthy, filthy things to Kelli Garner and Kristin Chenoweth. But even my dick would grab the remote and change the channel when Pan Am or GCB came on.

I agree, I am a woman and I live in Dallas . AS much as I tried to like it, I could not get into the show. I watch all reality shows but this show really sucked. I am a Christian and I take offense to the writer basically stereotyping all Dallas women as Blonde, rich and into everyone else's business.
