After Speaking up for Man Who Killed Justice the Puppy, Rev. Wright Finds His Own Dog Dead

Justice.

Dallas black activist the Reverend Ronald Wright went home last Friday expecting to be greeted happily by his 2-year-old German shepherd Sadie. When he opened the door, the house was silent. He immediately knew something was wrong.

When he went to the backyard, he saw his dog lying on the ground. She wasn't moving. When he picked her up, blood had congealed around her mouth. She was dead.

A friend with animal control said Sadie was most likely poisoned. Wright believes Sadie was collateral damage, her death retribution for his statements he made last week on Darius Ewing's $100,000 bail, which Wright called excessive. Ewing, a young black man, was arrested after the April 4 hanging and burning of Justice, a stray lab-terrier puppy. Justice died nine days later while receiving burn treatment. Wright said some people were given lower bails after murdering people, angering many animal lovers.

"They called my office and left messages. 'Nigger this and nigger that,'" Wright said. It didn't stop Wright, though. "We're going to keep doing what we do."

Wright suspects someone threw meat tainted with antifreeze or another poison over the back fence last week when everyone in the neighborhood as at school or at work. There aren't any witnesses, and police aren't investigating.

"Everybody from the apartment complex down the street has come to see the grave," Wright says. Sadie's buried in his backyard. Flowers are planted on top.

The hearing to reduce Ewing's bail is tomorrow. We asked Wright if he was planning on getting another dog. "I don't know," he said, his voice soft. "That dog was a sharp little dog. A sharp little dog."

And this misguided man can say that the life of a dog isn't worth as much as that of a man! You don't see a dog setting fire to any creature for a laugh & you definitely don't see a dog murdering a human for revenge or some kind of twisted statement. We humans, black, white, indigo or orange should be even half as loyal, loving & forgiving as the average dog. Don't turn the cruel & senseless torture of one of the worlds most special creatures into a black/white issue but seek justice & protection for innocent loving creatures.

At the PR conference this "reverend" held to complain about the amount of bond for Ewing - there was utter disdain in his voice when he referred to Justice, a helpless, living being that had suffered horrible torture and being turned into a flaming torch, as "some stray dog"   Is he capable of feeling compassion for God's creatures - including his own helpless dog?  What would he would do to acquire a few more seconds of media coverage?  Would he harm his own poor dog?  Would he encourage his own followers to provide hate messages so he could then scream "racism?"  RIP beautiful Sadie - along with little Justice.  May both of your senseless murders be avenged.

Dallas loves dog's they will kill humans over a dog.I love my dogs also I take care of them and can not understand anyone killing one for fun.Rev.Wright I am so sorry about your dog,I found out after Vick was in Dallas, don't mess with Dallas dog lovers.

Something is fishy here.  Wright is "assuming" his dog was poisoned??  No necropsy on his dog??  If that happened to one of my dogs, I would definitely find out what happened.  If it was determined my dog was poisoned, I would do what I could to get the facts and want the person or persons responsible to be held accountable.  Just b/c Rev. Wright is sticking up for someone who may or may not have tortured a poor helpless animal, doesn't mean someone should kill his dog.  Just doesn't make sense.  I am passionate when it comes to the care of animals - but I would never hurt an animal to make a point.  Just plain ridiculous!

Ok people, the voice of reason is here.  In his own statement above, he said that when he walks in the house, Sadie always greets him.  So, apparently he keeps the dog in the house, right? But the house was silent.  So, how did the dog get out?  Does he leave his doors open so the dog can go out?  Was his house burglarized?  How did the dog get into the back yard?  So sorry that his dog ws killed, but there are more questions in this story than there are answers.  I would have defintely called the police if I had left my dog inside my house and came home and he was outside dead.

Another act of a DISD graduate.  words fail.  The irony, hypocrisy, utter stupidity.

What gives here?  How do people that dumb escape Darwin for so long?  How do they get their hearts started every morning?

What is the logic that someone upset about a dog would kill another dog? That conclusion is ridiculous. Wouldn't they trash his yard, key his car, knife his tires or something similar?

The alleged perp's bail is to protect us humans from him. Forget the dogs. He is likely a sick, twisted human and we need to write him off. Robbing a bank is one thing, but being a convicted sadist is a completely different tag. Make sure we have full work up of DNA and prints because we will need them down the line.

Wright's angry because he was saving that dog for Sunday dinner with the Obamas.

While I disagree with Reverend Wright, whoever did this needs to face the same charges as Darius Ewing. An evil act does not compensate for another evil action.

Now that is just plain stupid. You're a dog lover who is upset over the burning death of a dog so you go and kill someone else's dog? People have no common sense.

Rev Wright was correct in his political statements and now a victim because his dog was killed. We need more like Rev Wright.  Hope this place doesn't turn into the Middle East where people kill people they disagree with, that'd be a turn for the worse.

I'm a dog-lover with 3 rescues. But I too thought that the bail was excessive. The community outrage lead to that. An 18 year old, from south Dallas shouldn't sit in jail for too long on a crime such as this. He needs some therapy not just getting worse in jail.

Yes, it's awful and it certainly doesn't say much about his character or mental state to do something like this. But the answer isn't a huge bail and inordinate amount of jail time.

please people, leave the animals out of this.  What the fuck did any of these pets do to anybody to deserve to die.  Sickfucks

Wright's an idiot but nothing he did or ever will do justifies murdering his dog especially in such a painful way. You think you're making some kind of statement, psycho dude, but you're no better than Ewing and I hope you get caught and punished the same as he does.

No reason to do a necropsy and find the actual cause of death. Better to just assume.

That's how Dr. Ralph Erdmann approached his work as a medical examiner for many years and look how far it got him.

Wright is right.  The bail was excessive.  Anybody who will kill someones' dog for expressing their opinion is clearly (mentally and spiritually) warped - not that being warped like that is uncommon...so much volatile hipocracy and imbalance around these issues...any position taken is fair game for attack by someone...

"There aren't any witnesses, and police aren't investigating". Well, that's convenient, now we will never know if Reverend Racecard poisoned his own dog.

I emailed this Reverend Wright last week. He has a pre made Word document that he is sending everyone that sends him an email. Basically saying that there have been cases where blacks have been robbed, murdered ect and this "stray dog" has gotten more publicity than those others have. Well damn if we dont have a voice for animal cruelty WHO WILL?!? I could care less about speaking out for humans. HUMANS can talk, DOGS can not. If a white, hispanic, asian ect did this to Justice I would be equally as upset about it PERIOD! Just as helpless as children in my eyes. I am beyond sickened with his comments. He is a complete IDIOT if he thinks a dog lover did this. It was probably the same type of person who tortured Justice. If you catch my drift

And now is time when animal rights people should stand up and demand- DEMAND- that justice be done for Sadie. The police should investigate! Find Sadie's killer(s)! Animal rights advocates should protest this savage murder of this innocent animal! Someone start a facebook page for Sadie!

Was it not the GOP Tea Party members that applauded when the debates focused on the death penalty?    How about the GOP Tea Party members cheering when an aide of Ron Paul died unable to pay for medical treatment.   No the party of hate and death is the “Tal-i-ban-Repub-li-cans”.

I'm just guessing the point of doing that was to make sure that it hit home with the "kid". If it's ok to set a dog on fire and nothing happen, what's to keep it from escalating? Also, do you know his history? If he was a first time offender, I doubt bail would be that high, but I can't find his criminal history.

No one but Rev. Wright knows what happened to his dog.  We only have his statements that something criminal happened.  If either of my dogs was poisoned, you can bet your ass I'd call the cops.

Not only that, but the sheer bloodthirsty brutality of the act bodes poorly for humans -- including, yes, black humans, or anybody who is unlucky enough to enter Darius Ewing's orbit. This kind of behavior is the classic precursor to acts of sociopathic violence.

This goes beyond ordinary animal cruelty, which generally involves neglect, ignorance and callousness. This guy wasn't, say, wagering on cockfights; he really, really wanted to see another creature in agony.

That's the reason so many people find it so disturbing, and I just don't comprehend the notion that there's some kind of zero-sum game whereby being disturbed by this equals being indifferent toward human suffering. Talk about unsound reasoning!

Sound moral reasoning, there, Michelle. If it can speak, it's okay to kill it.

I think the difference here is that there was no 911 call and no witnesses. The chances of finding the person responsible are slim to none without someone calling in a tip.

No one said it was 'ok' just that the bail seems excessive. He will still be tried and punished. And Freemna nor you, RealDirty, knows his history. So lets assume he doesn't have one.

This 19 yr old man has to realize, if you make an adult decision to kill an animal, you have to take the consequences. I think sitting in lock-up is helping pound that idea into his head...

Thats EXACTLY what she said. Nice, Mr.McGuestikins. No talk about 'less evil' or 'if it speaks it can be brutalized' just that she--personally--feels an obligation to speak up and defend creatures who can't defend themselves.

GuestyMcGuestikins
GuestyMcGuestikins

She didnt say it was less evil, she said she didnt personally feel she had the same responsibility to speak up for those who are perfectly capable of speaking up for themselves than those who can't. Why are you trying to read so much more into it than was actually said?

billmarvel

Guesty,If you believe that it's less evil to kill a human being, because that human can reason, than it is to kill an "innocent" animal, than I guess my moral reasoning would be lost on you.
