After Jane McGarry's DUI, Her Fans Want Her to Know: We Still Want You to Read Us Things

Longtime NBC 5 anchor Jane McGarry got popped for DUI over the weekend. She was stopped early Sunday morning in a 2007 Porsche, WFAA reported, after failing to use her signal on the tollway. She refused to take a breathalyzer and was booked into Dallas County jail, where they apparently let her freshen (and sober?) up before shooting the simply delightful mugshot at right.

McGarry is an active Tweeter but has been silent since the arrest. Her fans, no so much. Some shot straight to her Facebook page to make sure she knew she was still loved.

This was a definite knee-jerk reaction from channel 5 bosses.  I think looking for an excuse because of her age.  She has won a ton of awards both locally & nationally!

Cha 5 News is so boring without Jane., is down to the same level as Fox 4 now.  Jane deserves a chance., she's the best anchor Cha 5 has ever had.  The metro-plex deserves better than this. Jane needs to be back on the air, she's learned her lesson.

I often thought she was NCUI Castng under the Influence when watching her. Especially during the (JAM) days. Jane & Mike @ 10pm days... When out of no where she would start laughing, or laugh @ the inappropriate stories to find humor in. That's no crime though, just a little insensitive... Although, what everyone seems to forget here is that Driving Under the Influence IS illegal, no matter how famous you are. Also, switching lanes without a turn signal is blatantly obvious when you're driving a 2007 Porsche. And whether the officer is a jerk or not, when you're drunk, you're drunk. I doubt he just had out out for Jane McGarry. These are normal charges people rack up everyday. She just happens to be a celebrity. When other celebs get them 500 people don't get online & call the officer a jerk & claim innocence for the celeb. Look @ it from that point of view. Do you still feel the same? Do I feel any different about her? No. Would I still take her home if we both met @ a bar? Well, hell yeah I would! Is she attractive in her mugshot? Of course. She's still the Jane we know & love!

Everyone makes mistakes, but of course it cannot be on the nations Highways. She is without doubt one of the best newscasters in her time. I think she still needs to be on the News crew. The fine can be paid and certain securities placed to assure it won't happen again. There are more people getting away with these things than her. There are repeat offenders who have been in front of judges who let them off for the 5th time or more, then they kill someone.I think she should be allowed to get back to where she was in spite of DUI.

A reality check for those of you who don't know Jane. This is a woman who is quick to throw stones at others (especially female co-workers) yet she forgets that she too lives in a glass house. She has for years been nasty to women who come in and out of NBC 5, I know of several who don't feel badly about this little incident. I hope Jane learns a lesson here; be kind to others, because you never know when you'll be the one under scrutiny.

That smile shows she doesn't appreciate the seriousness of the crime she committed.Perhaps a stay at one of our faith-based rehab prisons would straighten her out.

Whatever happen to innocent until proven guilty?1. She refused to take a breathalyzer. Any lawyer will tell you to do that. There have been NO blood test results released.2. She was pulled over for changing lanes without a blinker. Not erratic driving. 3. She MAY have said she had 3 glasses of wine. Do we know if that was immediately prior to the traffic stop or 3-4 hours before?4. Red eyes? It was 1:00 in the morning.5. She SUPPOSEDLY failed the field sobriety tests. Have you ever seen her shoes? Alphabet test? I was once asked to do this - backward!6. Has anyone ever heard of an overzealous cop or what's referred to by police as a trophy arrest?

What's really disturbing is the comments about what style of clothes she wears or how short her skirts are. She always looks great and seems so professional. What was she doing out at 1am? Why would someone even ask that?

Jane was particularly rough and condescending to TCU during the sensationalized drug bust in Feb. It is hard to feel sympathy for one who tweeted the following: Feb 17 Jane McGarry @TheJaneMcGarry. @TCUballer Keep in mind the news media did not make those arrests. Feb 16 Jane McGarry @TheJaneMcGarry. Do you think the drug bust tarnishes TCU and it's image? Use the hash tag #TCUIMAGE and we may read your tweet live at 5. Feb 16 Jane McGarry @TheJaneMcGarry. If your child were among the arrested TCU students, would you bail him/her out? Literally. #interestingquestion Feb 16 Jane McGarry @TheJaneMcGarry. I like Jane butI was hit by drunk driver on Central with a big red fire engin across the Freeway I had stopped when I saw accident and engin he did not.I was almost killed and he got out of car cursing me for being in his way, hell If I had been anyplace else he would have hit Fire engin broad side and been dead.I had  instinct to turn my wheel into medium and avoid the Fire engin I was sober.

I love how the media has glazed over this one. If it would have been DPD or a Dallas Firefighter they couldnt get their fast enough. Shame on you Jane for putting innocent people in danger including the DPS Trooper who had very little room to work. My only regret is wasn't James Rose.

We love all of our news media  staff across the board, they are the people we let into our homes daily, and see them as part of our family.  What effects them effects us, we are not living in a perfect world, we've all made mistakes, and yet make mistakes.  However on that note, being responsible is the goal in whatever we do.  Nothing or no one is worth jeopardizing your career. I've  had some tough times, setbacks and the whole nine yards, but thank God i managed to stay focused.  Jane if you have to, get spiritual guidance or professional help because  you don't want your life to spiral out of control.

DUI is for minors. She cannot be charged with a DUI.

Minors can be charged with a DUI almost solely on a cops say so of alcohol smell, DWI is the charge when evidence such as failed field sobriety, BAC, etc are used to determine impairment.

You are, without question, a complete idiot.

No nimrod.  There's driving under the influence (dui) and dwi, driving while intoxiciated.  Age has nothing to do with it.  I'll leave it up to you to use your favorite search engine to discern the difference.

mark

Pretty sure DUI is not strictly for minors. I think it may be a matter of a lack of specific evidence of alcohol consumption, but rather the officer's judgement of impaired driving. Impaired driving while under the influence of anything other than alcohol, or without enough evidence of alcohol, would be a DUI. If you're driving is impaired by misuse of prescription medication, illegal drugs, or anything other than alcohol. I may be wrong, but I'm fairly sure that's the case. Hence the title of the charge:Driving Under the InfluenceDriving While IntoxicatedOne is ambiguous, while the other is clearly alcohol.
