The Original Mud Run: "Healthy Living," the Morning News Says, Except When You're Dying

The Morning News has a "Healthy Living" story today about extreme races like the Original Mud Run. I came across the online (and pay-walled) version in the middle of the night last night and thought: Well, that's odd, considering what happened over the weekend, not to mention the ensuing onslaught of stories about the event's disorganization and danger. But whatever: The paper obviously had the Monday health package planned, and the story addresses 30-year-old runner Tony Weathers' death in paragraph three. They did what they could.

But then I saw the dead-tree version and thought: Nah, they could have done a bit more. Like, say, change the subhead that you see at the bottom of the photo above. "Runners never know what they'll run into -- or over or under -- in extreme races," it reads. Which is true, but they have a decent idea what they may have run over in this one. His name was Tony. Great guy, by all accounts.

I consider myself a veteran mud runner, from original mud run, warrior dash, to tough mudder and I cannot believe your last three sentences. As we mourn the loss of a fellow mud runner, athlete, and great human being, I find it so tacky to make theses type of comments. It's tacky to say such a thing about a tragic accident when Mr Waether's family and friends are mourning the loss of him. What's important is that we need respect their feelings!!!

When the cat's away, the mice play.  If this thing won't be retracted entirely, can we not at least edit the last couple of lines?

Or, is this the latest version of the "NYT Page View Machine", but done in poor taste at a deceased man's expense?

Disgusting.  And I'm talking about your last couple of sentences, Joe.  Absolutely disgusting, and flip.

I really wasn't trying to be flip (although if you read it that way, I obviously failed.) My point was sincere: This poor guy was very possibly run over by these racers, and I thought the News botched its treatment of it. But I'm open to the possibility that I botched my treatment of their botched treatment.

I didn't read it as such, until I read it 10 times and then using my wise mind realized it could be read as such, but still didn't see you being flip.

Get them back on your good side by combing ebay for vintage pictures of Dallas skylines and city streets. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1984-P...

If you had left off the last 3 sentences, you would have made your point perfectly.
