On St. Patty's Day Weekend, Get Ready To Not Refuse. Again.

That beer should really be green. But you get the idea.
Surprise! And by that we mean in a development that's no surprise at all to anyone, DPD just sent out a news release announcing that they'll be conducting another No Refusal DWI Initiative this weekend:
This initiative will begin at 6:00 P.M., Friday, March 16, 2012 and will end at 6:00 A.M., Sunday, March 18, 2012.

During this initiative officers will secure a search warrant for a blood sample from all persons arrested for DWI who refuse to voluntarily give a breath and/or blood sample.

Nothing harshes that green beer buzz quite like a uniformed police officer sticking a needle in your arm, does it?

They need to stay away from my vital fluids.

Maybe the state should insert a 10 inch DWI-o-Meter into everyone that exits an establishment that seves beer wine liquor.  That should make us all think twice.

Question...I didn't think it was the officer taking the blood, who exactly is tasked with doing that job? The nurses when I give blood have a hard time sticking me correctly sometimes.

It's all hype anyways, just like the warrant roundups where they don't actually round anyone up.  Whenever they do this, half the judges don't show (either because they don't care or are too drunk themselves.)

That's funny. Even the people on that webpage's twitter feed are calling it St. Pattie. Fail.

Meh. In twenty years you won't be able to drink anywhere but your own home, and only if there are no children.

Then you can think back to hiw life improved when they banned smoking in private bars and restaurants.

I hope that one day, John Carona's great grandchildren are researching their family lineage for a 10th grade school project, and they stumble upon SB 328. I then hope they realize that their great grandfather took it upon himself to crush the 4th and 5th amendments in the State of Texas for the sole purpose of getting his now-soiled name into the annals of legislation. Finally, I hope they take a moment to ponder the ramifications of his efforts, and within their inner monologue, think to themselves, "fuck that guy."

Lets stop calling the no refusal weekends.   Aren't most DWI stops no refusal these days, I mean, even if they dont stick your arm, if they suspect drinking your ass is going to jail and losing your license if you try to refuse

Captain Obvious here .Don't drink and drive ? The deck is stacked against driver.Yes this intrudes on our Rights and something should be done about it .

I don't think I am willing to be the poster person for that cause.

How about anyone else ?

This is the conundrum. It's the same reason drug legalization will not ever happen, or will happen after only very, very much convincing that the government needs the money.

There's just no upside politically to making a reasonable statement on these and similar issues. So everyone stays quiet. If you oppose this effort, you must love children who are killed by drunk drivers. At least that's what your next opponent's campaign ad will say.

Can we have "give up your freedom of religion" weekends every once in a while? Why not violate all the Bill of Rights with equal enthusiasm for amendments other than the 4th?
