A Season (Or So) After Getting Booted From Rangers' Booth, Lewin's Now a Voice of the Mets

Josh Lewin and Tom Grieve were partners in the Rangers' TV broadcast booth for nine seasons.
Just dialed into Josh & Elf on The Fan (or, as they're billing it this a.m., "Two Jews and the Flu") to see if there'd be any mention of this morning's news out of New York, where Josh Lewin's been named to the New York Mets' radio broadcast team. But, nope, nothing so far; Mavs head coach Rick Carlisle is coming off the bench first.

Lewin, unceremoniously ousted by the Texas Rangers during 2010 post-season play, starts immediately in New York, where he'll be heard alongside Howie Rose on Sports Radio 66 WFAN. Says Josh: "It's a thrill to be able to come back to my roots in New York and call games for the team I rooted for as a kid on the pre-eminent sports talk radio station in the country."

In related news out of Arlington: The Rangers' equipment truck departs the Ballpark in Arlington at 1 this afternoon for the team's spring training digs in Surprise, Arizona. Play ball.

Hooray...but not really? I'm glad for Lewin but damn, I had hoped Nolan would see the error of his ways and bring him back on. I really don't mind Barnett but with TAG it's the grumpy old men thing going on.

I think Lewin and a guy like Followill, are the best PBP guys.

I have never and will never understand why the Rangers got rid of Lewin.  I watch a lot of local baseball broadcasts through the Extra Innings package on DirectTV, and Lewin is one of the  three or four PBP guys in the Majors.

With all due respect to the amazing ratings success at 1310 KTCK, two people who knew their stuff as well as anyone in the market were over at the the Fan during lunch. The first guy was Newy Scruggs, and then obviously Josh Lewin.

Those guys know each major professional sport, they do their research, they've been behind the scenes, and they have good reasoning skills. It's a bummer to see both of them off the radio in a full-time capacity. Each one of those guys already had second jobs better than their day jobs, so I won't shed too many tears for them.

Joe Tone, what's your second job? You must be better at it than your day job! You continue to feed readers the bloody stool of your ignorance, incompetence, and indifference. You can persist in sucking that pitbull's smelly ass, or you can resign, Mr. Tone.

You must not have ever listened to Josh & Elf's Internet Lists & Dad Jokes Comedy Radio Presentation then.

You lost your credibility when you brought up Newy.

Stay Hard Josh, truly mean it.  Running Josh off is about the only thing that has Nolan's fingerprints on it that I've disagreed with.  Josh seemed like a good guy, highly entertaining on the broadcast (for those bandwagon Ranger fans: Josh was pretty much the best reason to watch the game for years!) and I loved it when he used to fill in for Norm.

I'll admit that it took me awhile for Josh to grow on me, but it wasn't long before I realized he was the best - and by far the most entertaining - play-by-play guy the Rangers have ever had.  I still love Eric and Busby, but on those nights that Bryan Dolgin is manning the radio booth, I seriously want to slit my wrist out of boredom.

Eric and Busby do a great job. You can tell Eric really respects his baseball knowledge. They do need to replace Dolgin though, on those games that Busby doesn't work I wish Eric would just do it by himself.

Kinda hard to top Risenhoover or Holtz.

Loved him in the Rangers booth, for the most part. He's better suited for baseball play-by-play than a radio show, though. I am happy for him getting back to the bigs. Hopefully this means a complete revamp of The Fail's lineup, but I'm doubting it.

The over/under on the Keith Hernandez Seinfeld episode references this season on Mets broadcasts is 200.

Congratulations Josh! The one big mistake the new Rangers regime has made was dumping him and subjecting us to that Rhadigan train wreck. Still wonder who's Cheerios Lewin pissed in. Love listening to him call the Chargers games on satellite.

With as bad as the Mets are going to be this year and an obviously mental GM tweeting it's going to be a minefield for Josh to navigate. Good thing he had plenty of practice here.

I always liked Josh. I thought it was odd the he wasnt good enough for the Rangers but he WAS good enough for Fox to keep him for national broadcasts. It sucks that he got dumped right when the Rangers got good. It was easy to ignore how boring the current broadcast team is because the action on the field was so exciting. If and when the Rangers start to suck again, there is no way the current lifeless ass broadcast team will be able to keep the fans into the games.

Even when the Rangers sucked, I would make it a point to watch the 9th if they were winning. I love Josh's "BALLGAME!" call. Too bad the Mets suck and their fans will only hear it around 40 times this season.

Idk what the fuck the Rangers were thinking with ousting Lewin. The guy is smart and in demand, no offense Rhads. Lewin has a nice work resume going calling Chargers games and now Mets games. His radio show is good when he's interested.Does this mean he'll be relocating out of the market?

For a few years there he also called San Diego St football games along with Rangers, Chargers and occasional playoff games for Fox
