• No, but the dude doing the speed limit in the left lane is not to be criticized. You do not, as a matter of fact, own the road any more than he does.  Also, no, people don't really mess with you on that 3-second following distance unless you're down in the mixmaster with all those crazy lane changes. Besides which, people being in front of you doing the speed limit or faster doesn't actually impede you if you're doing the speed limit. Logic FTW!!!!

• This is really a bad idea. I know most Texans will hoot and hollar and shoot their pistols in the air about it, but in reality it means more people will die on Texas roads. Our highways are engineered with a finite degree of safety built in. The safety is to account for speeders, rain, ice, bunny rabbits, night time, poorly maintained vehicles, and all other things that can cause problems. By raising the speed limit, we are decreasing the amount to safety left over for other problems. The new speed limits aren't going to stop night time from occurring or make people take better care of their vehicles.  Your legislature just did you a great disservice. 

• I coined a term to describe this: SMALL. (Slow-Moving Asshole, Left Lane). You're right about the right lane courtesy, it goes out the window once you hit about 20 miles from the DFW metroplex.

In 15 years of working in Dallas and commuting to the 'burbs, I've seen one motorcycle cop, on RL Thornton, shooting radar from the left side emergency lane when traffic couldn't possibly move faster than 40. Must have been a rookie hazing.FT Worth and Arlington cops are a pain, always with the radar, busting people for passing in the emergency lanes or crossing the double white line. Causes a LOT of stress for me. And the tickets are expensive as hell.

• I like driving on Dallas because I can do whatever the hell I want and no-one can stop me. Cops stay on the surface streets for their own safety, and that means I RULE. I can drive any speed I want, in any lane, I don't need to use those damn signals to tip people of, and the road is totally mine, all of it. When I moved to the Metroplex I became totally FREE! Stay the hell out of my way, bitches.

• Once you get past the SH 87 split from 1-20 at Roby the minimum speed limit is 75.  I don't think I've ever driven under 85 from there to the New Mexico border.

• DPS has primary responsibility for enforcement of traffic laws and investigation of traffic accidents on the Tollway. I know at least for Dallas, DPD officers will not use fixed radar locations anywhere on the Dallas North Tollway or Parkway.

• Been there many times. Always sure to drive under the posted limit.

• You see state troopers pretty frequently on the Tollway nabbing people going over like 90, but it's very rare to see the police of the city you're in on it, you're right about that.

• After years of driving I-25 on the Colorado front range, I found Texas drivers to be excellent about being in the right lane, at least until you hit civilization. There's nothing like an RV chugging along at 50 in the left lane next to another RV doing the same in the right to really get on your nerves.

• You've never been on I-45 south of DT. But here's some advice, NEVER pass a garbage truck spewing juices and bad smells with your top down. It's considered speeding to accelerate to pass. And there's gonna be even more trucks with Flow Control on the horizon.

• Part of the problem on I-35 is that you will move to pass someone and end up having to pass 10-15 cars before you can get over to the right (this is doing 75). For most areas, I don't think the change will matter much.

• It's also a matter of safety. It's tough to get up to 70 on many stretches of 35 and 45 when the road is full.
