Compared To Reality Crap Filming Around Town, TNT's New Dallas May Not Be So Bad

My wife and I watched last night's Highland Park-set episode of Top Chef: Texas in wide-eyed (and, eventually, slightly drunken) disbelief; it was like some Frankenstein monster created from the worst parts of Most Eligible Dallas, The A List: Dallas, Dallas Divas & Daughters and one of those rare occasions when Tom Colicchio actually shows up at his Craft in the W. TNT could not have chosen a better time to release a new trailer for its next-gen Dallas reboot, which looks like a Merchant Ivory production in comparison. For this we paid $400,000? I demand a refund.

Real Dallas food lovers watch Anthony Bourdain and read DallasFood.org. Why waste your time on this Bravo drivel. I feel sorry for the Top Chef competitors having to put up with Dallas' modern day incarnations of the snobby born-rich assholes from "Revenge of the Nerds" in the first Top Chef Texas episode in Dallas. Really, though, did you expect anything less than cliche from these Bravo guys, slumming in Texas with boots on that they bought yesterday?
The good "reality" shows seem to have 1-2 years before the suspension of disbelief factor is too high or they have a jump-the-shark moment. I watched Top Chef regularly for the first 2 years as I did Hell's Kitchen. Both reached their expiration dates sometime in the second or third season. Having one of these shows in Dallas is a reality check on reality TV. I remember when the original TV show "Dallas" was being made in the 70's. My grandmother came to visit from England and by this time the show was in syndication on BBC. Talk about cultural contamination. She thought everyone in Texas lived on ranches, had cattle and pumpjacks in the front yard. Was she disappointed.
Call me when they film <i>The Amazing Race: Lone Star Edition</i>.

Horrible representation of Dallas. The McMansions, distateful decorating, husbands in HIghland Park who were all shorter than their wives and the woman were well....not so pretty. I wonder if Tom will let the chefs do a gig at CRAFT, doubtful and that place is hugely overrated.

Another one you forgot was the atrocious Debbie Decorates Dallas on HGTV. After watching some of these shows it's funny(?) to see what an outsider's view looking in is.

I was seriously concerned for Tom Collichio last night. I thought for sure that his eyes were going to pop right out of their sockets, as much eye rolling as he was doing. Did Bravo go out of their way to find the worst couples in town to do this progressive dinner? That, or are they in preliminary casting for Top Douche, Couples Edition?
2 new episodes before indefinite hiatus, including tonight. Yet we'll get to see new episodes of Whitney, Allan Gregory, I Hate My Teenage Daughter, and all the shit Bravo churns out not named Top Chef. Makes for a sad Scruffy. #sixseasonsandamovie

The Dallas reboot is a go yet Community's fate is very up in the air. Face palm.
