Your First Good Look at the New-Look Reunion Tower, or: Christmastime is Here? Almost.

While we were downtown in the wee small hours of this morning, I noticed that Reunion Tower's lights looked a little ... strange. But I didn't think much of it; there were other, you know, distractions. Thankfully, the great Justin Terveen, who'd come out to shoot photos, also noticed it. Says he: "They've been testing patches and very subtle color changes (a reddish hue) over the past few days, but last night was the first time I've seen it in action. And given the time and duration it was run, I can't help but wonder if I didn't catch a test of the system."

He shot this terrific little time-lapse of the Reunion's new LED rainbow connection. I know you can spare the, what, 10 seconds? I dunno -- I always thought the white lights were so tasteful. But between this and the Omni and the Chase's new blue hue, downtown's looking awful Vegas-y these days. And just wait till Big Bob Jeffress turns on his Holy Water Fountain.

And one other thing, when are they finally reopen the observation deck? I was told it would open last summer. I think it has been closed for two years. Reunion must be feeling the heat of competition from the Omni wall of colors.

For the past several weeks I thought there was something wrong with my eyes. When I look at Reunion tower I see other lights like red beside white on at the same time. I didn't before. I just thought my vision was just getting worse. Something look strange about its appearance. This explains that. Boy am I relieved.

What the hell is that white thing that zips across from left to right, under the 'golf ball thing' (as us out of staters refer to it) between :03 and :04?

Love his work.  Has it already been determined whether his actual name just happens to sound like "Just Intervene," or is it a nom de guerre?

The Hunt Tower runs some cool designs with its lighting as well (e.g. a pretty sharp green and gold "Go Stars" on nights of Stars home games).

Chase Tower's lighting is a really weak effort though.  The lights running up the sides lose steam about half way up the building.

Reunion Tower could emulate the Empire State Building lighting to give us holiday- (and ethnic-) specific lighting effects year-round.  That would be cool.

And if Bellagio Baptist Church gives us that background music to go with their Dancing Waters show on outdoor speakers, I will forgive them (almost) all their sins.

The great Justin Terveen, indeed.. I'm a big fan of his work wherever it turns up.

I also like the (relatively) understated white lights. I'm all for change, but this is a little too white-belty, plaid-jackety for me.

And thanks for the link back to FBD's Super Tricked-Up Giant Jesus Bidet. I hadn't seen that one before.

Damn kids with your fancy pan-spectrum LEDs. Also, the metric system is a tool of the devil. My car gets forty rods to the hogshead and that's the way I likes it.

Sorry, between :02 and :03

This being a time-lapse, I'm guessing that's an airplane.

But will it get three hundred hectares on a single tank of kerosene?

Probably a good bet, I tried to freeze frame it as it went across, but no clarification was to be had.  Probably a stray "point of light" left over from the good ole George H. W. Bush days.
