Dallas ISD Trustees Blackburn, Nutall Have Had It With Dallas NAACP Prez's "Slander and Libel"

Ah, so this is why Dallas Independent School District board president Lew Blackburn and trustee Bernadette Nutall want to clamp down on public speakers at school board meetings -- comments made by Dallas NAACP President Juanita Wallace at the October 20 board meeting. Specifically, they're furious over Wallace's assertion at around the 1:06 mark that both have "been accused of requesting that Deion Sanders grease their palms, whatever that means" in order to deliver unto the former Dallas Cowboy H. S. Thompson Learning Center "to start a charter school."

Now, Wallace offers no proof of this. Zero. Zippo. Nada. Matter of fact, she says right after that: "If that is the case, stop it right now." Then, she says to the two trustees, "We do know you're pro-charter, and charter schools are for-profit and not educating children." But because trustees aren't allowed to address speakers, well, that was that. Until, of course, the trustees took up their discussion of shutting down speakers two weeks ago.

And how do we know this is the reason? Because this morning, trustee Carla Ranger has posted to her website a letter Nutall and Blackburn sent to NAACP national HQ condemning Wallace for impugning their "honor, honesty and integrity," and for slandering Sanders. And they want a public apology, or else "we are contemplating legal action" against Wallace.

"less well"? Nice grammar, teacher. Besides, you have everything to gain by bad mouthing charter schools. Not the least of which is keeping your job. That's all this is about. Very few of you unionized teachers truly care about the kids and their education. Most of you just care about your secure job and future pension. If you really cared about the kids, then you would champion the dismissal of underperforming teachers and underperforming schools. But alas, that is never the case, the status quo continues and kids keep getting left behind.
Charter schools are not public schools. They expel kids who don't follow the rules. They take tax money, but they are NOT public schools. That's why they say they perform "better" than public schools. That's why their rules are different--they aren't public schools. Public schools have to take everybody. We don't get to permanently expel kids. We don't perform less well. Give us a charter school's population and we'd beat the fire out of their test scores. The only thing public about charter schools is the cash trough they are reaching into. I understand plenty about educating children; I've done it for a decade and I've got the stats and evaluations to prove that I'm very effective. And I'm telling you: charter schools are NOT public schools. You can believe the charter school spinmeisters who want your money, or you can believe someone who has nothing to gain by telling you the truth. That would be me.
I just love black on black allegations of corruption in DISD. I wonder where Ms. Wallace was when the go to guy at Wai-Wize got the search from the FBI?
Nutall has been under attack by Wallce since before she even ran for DISD. Because there is a certain section of Dallas who fervently believe that charter schools are not public schools. They don;t understand a thing about educating children, just shuffling them through the cattle-chutes day in, day out.
Charters are nothing but real-estate deals...don't be naive.
Sanders did shop 'junior' to Flowermound Marcus high school where the kid show that daddy has all the athletic talent in the family.
Look at the salaries made by the top folks at the charter operators. Sticking a "non-profit" label on something doesn't mean profits aren't being made.
Charter Schools are NOT for profit. They are state funded but privately run, therefore some are actually much more effective than what the DISD is capable of providing the community. Sanders has PHD in street smarts and common sense. He also didn't go 100K in debt for a degree in psyco babble and don't communicate in sparkles. Tex Ed has been fucked ever since Mark White tagged Ross for Boss to head that blue/pink ribbon panel back in the early 80's that blew up public Ed in Texas with the end result being a great feeder system for street gangs.
Honor, honesty and integrity on the DISD board? Who has ever heard those words used together - except with the words "lack of"?
Pardon me while I ignore the DISD-NAACP food fight, but doesn't anyone else find it odd that board trustees charged with improving public education would even consider, let alone endorse, funding a "for profit" charter school to be managed by a self-promoting retired professional football player and television studio analyst? Really?.......Does Sanders actually have a degree in education, management or any training whatsoever other than as a "shut-down" corner back and an elusive kick returner?
Public Apology???How about the children of Dallas, maybe the whole city of Dallas taxpayers get a apublic apology for having 34 AU schools most of which are at the seconday level and to fix the budget these 'trustees' built the budget on the backs of secondary schools. Starving the campuses, reducing teachers while breaking the backs of those remaining with class loads topping 200 in some cases. Also how about apologizing to the kid taking ALG I in a class with 41 while another school's class has only 15. How about getting an apology for not following the bond money more closely?
The cat fight continues....Joyce Foreman turned Nutall into OPR for official oppression. It's laughable that Wallace and Foreman are wasting the board's time and the district's resources on this fluff. Clearly there is no love lost between these women (Nutall and Wallace/Foreman/Ranger)...it would be nice if they simply seethed quietly, but alas....

Not surprisingly, Blackburn and Nutall have managed to have this molehill blow up into a mountain right in their faces. Probably a grand total of 3 people (excluding them) were awake enough to have actually heard Wallace's claims at the time, and now it's going to be repeated in all sorts of media and take on a bigger life than it ever would have had if they'd just ignored it. The gang that couldn't shoot, talk or walk straight strikes again.
impugning their "honor, honesty and integrity," I look at that quote and wonder just who on the DISD board (excluding perhaps Ms. Ranger) are they speaking of. I wonder what planet the trustees are from. Certainly not earth. I think that the trustees are full of themselves.
