A Dickey Move as She Tells Jenkins, "I Don't Call You a Sock Puppet Like Everyone Else Does"

For those who haven't seen the full exchange between Dallas County Commissioners Maurine Dickey and John Wiley Price and Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins over the termination of former Homeland Security director Lisa Chambers, here 'tis courtesy KTVT-Channel 11. Jenkins, for those who missed it, says he fired Chambers for drinking too much (at a July 4 party) and for "loafing." Chambers has denied each and every allegation in an interview with Unfair Park and continues to insist that her firing had to do with that bug sweep at Dapheny Fain's she refused to sign off on, not to mention other irregularities she was looking into at the time of her firing.

Says Chambers, referring to an angry, late-night email she sent county officials: "I think they didn't know what they were doing, because an email like that -- calling them out on something very serious -- how do you defend yourself against that? 'Well, that person's crazy.' It's a smart way to deflect -- get her thinking she's got the problem."

We'll get to more of that later. But why wait? Here's the video, chock full o' ... highlights.

In related news, here's a new Tumblr:
Dallas County Corruption, its look inspired by, among others, Saul Bass. Chambers says she has nothing to do with it.

I will admit my ignorance of this, but how is it that a local yokel county judge has the power to summarily dismiss a director of Homeland Security to begin with? Is that not a Federal department?

What a fool. Judge Jenkins, the FBI is investagating your closest ally.  THE FBI.  This is not a game. Grandstanding and drawing attention to yourself is foolish. Any rational person would be distancing from JWP and keeping a low profile. You have lost my support because your are an arrogant fool.

PLEASE LET GET THESE CLOWNS OUT OF OFFICE....Dallas County has become the laughing stock of America, when it comes to county government.  What gets me is that it seems that we (THE CITIZENS OF DALLAS COUNTY) don't care.  Each and every one of else need to start right now on getting those jokers out of office.....just saying!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm wondering if her contract specifically stated she was to abstain from alcohol 24/7?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

I did, however, laugh out loud at the sock puppet comment. Brilliant, Ms Dickey!

Jenkins might want to grow a set of eyes in the back of his head.  If Ms. Chambers still has contacts at the CIA he just might find himself the victim of an unfortunate accident.  You don't eff with the CIA. Period.

We finally have an answer for the question: Can a person be too stupid for politics?  The answer is: No, a person can even be THIS stupid, and find a place in politics.

Its sad to think these people are running our county. They are doing a disservice and should be gone. ALL of them.

I want to acknowledge that the only person on Commissioner's Court that goes against JWP and his puppets is Maureen Dickey. Whether you like her or not, I love that she won't stand by while all the corruption is going on in everyone face.

Eventhough we have different political affiliations, I respect maureen dickey, shes someone who'll stand up for her beliefs and has something JWP has always lacked: Character.

She is no different than the other two twits.

I agree, but if you want to differientiate yourself from the crowd, you can't behave like the crowd.  I think she dimminishes her arguments by engaging in the scream fest.

I can't imagine what it's like to be in her position, day after day having to work side-by-side with a bunch of dishonest, shady, unprofessional thugs.

Ooops, meant to post this here:

And obviously Maureen Dickey is the only one on the Commissioner's Court who reads the comments in Unfair Park...

To say Jenkins is a major disappointment and just plain stupid at times is an understatement, but Maurene Dickey does herself, or anyone else for that matter, no favors by coming across as a hystrionic female.  Then of course we have the "I love to hear myself scream at the white woman" JWP.  All of them need a good time out and mandatory anger management classes.  I'd be happy just to see them get through 30 days of meetings without turning the business of the county into an E! channel reality show.

I liked how JWP tried to defuse the situation by throwing napalm. It's pretty funny that he let his suckpoppet expose what a turd he is. I hope he gets dragged into court by a civil suit  and has to answer all this without the protections of a criminal trial.

Some thoughts on double standards for those who elected vs those who are hired:

1) Elected official Judge Carlos Cortez (one of Jenkins' cronies) gets drunk at a party and gets into a fight with a couple of other elected officials and it splashes all over the papers, and he also circulates a bunch of unprofessional emails about his colleagues (not sure what time of day), and that gets splashed all over the papers.  RESULT:  He gets re-elected in 2010.

2) Appointed homeland security employee gets drunk and falls on an elected official's family members (supposedly) and circulates unprofessional emails about her colleagues at all hours of the night (supposedly).  RESULT: She gets the sack because our elected officials are "looking out for the safety" of us idiot citizens.

3) Elected official Judge Clay Jenkins acts like a total out-of-control jerk in a public forum and unprofessionally reveals private information about job performance, possibly opening himself up to slander charges and putting the county at financial risk.  RESULT:  You decide in 2014.

Oak Cliff Res
Oak Cliff Res

1) Cortez wasn't re-elected by Jenkins he was re-elected by you. 2) Brett Shipp reported the time of emails and they were at all hours of the night. 3) You should put (supposedly) after "looking out for the safety of us idiot citizens. 4) Government is public, there is nothing private about it or nothing that an open records request can show, so Jenkins just spead up the report and 5) It's only slander if its false...

Let me simplify:  The elected nuts get to fire the hired nuts, and the voters, who are also nuts, don't fire the elected nuts.  It's all nuts.

Somebody tell me again how this clown got elected?

Jay

You'll need to narrow the question.

Wylie H.
Wylie H.

How was he elected? Money.... a whole lot of spending money.

He was essentially hired by the Dallas County "mafia."  He was a resident of Waxahachie (not in Dallas County) until shortly before the election and continued to run his law practice out of Waxahachie even after he moved into Dallas County. (Sam Merten uncovered evidence that Jenkins was still voting in Ellis County after he had claimed to move to Dallas).

His candidacy sprang out of nowhere, when he showed up out of the blue with the who's who of the Dallas County machine all lined up in lockstep endorsing him.  The Dallas Morning News jumped on the bandwagon, as well.

He did relatively little conventional public campaigning.

Schutze actually wrote a great article on the mysterious Clay Jenkins during the campaign:  http://www.dallasobserver.com/...

What you have just viewed, dear friends, is the pilot for the latest Dallas-based reality show.

Clay Jenkins is completely out of control... Jenkins and John Wiley Price are using the County Court as some sort of bully pulpit to hurl unsubstantiated accusations at those who are unable to defend themselves.

This is very, very bad news for the citizens of Dallas County.

Im curious political minds, do we have the ability to enact a recall election for these two clowns? I know state level we dont, but on the local level is what im curious about..

My understanding is that, within the state of Texas, recall elections are only permitted in CITIES that have their own home rule charter.  In other words, we're s.o.l.

The situation in Dallas County has become so extreme, however, that it might be worth seeing if some sort of law could be passed at the state level that would allow for some sort of additional oversight of and/or controls on, Dallas County elected officials.

Probably just wishful thinking, but it would be nice if Dallas County could be placed under some sort of "conservatorship" and cleaned up.  In the absence of immediate repercussions, it seems like Price and Jenkins are becoming more and more emboldened to act out.  I see this ending very badly at some point.

Iwearblack

Good question regarding a recall... The question I have is: Would it be effective city-wide, or would it have to originate and/or be held within their respective districts?

Jay
Jay

Amazing. All of that ranting by Jenkins and I never even saw Price's lips move once. Not once. Now, Price's arm up Jenkin's back was a dead giveaway of sock amateur puppeteering, but the voice work.....just perfect.

I'm surprised that Jenkins didn't call Chambers a "poopyhead".

If Jenkins is going to paper Chambers personnel file, he needs to learn to do a better job.  Besides calling her a loafer and a drunk in a public forum is just what the plaintiff's lawyer needs for the wrongful termination suit and the slander suit.  All he needed to say is: "Ms. Chamber's work performance was not meeting expectations.  She was counseled on the items for which she needed to improve or be terminated.  She did not meet the performance improvement targets.  This is a personnel performance matter and I will not comment further."

Of course this is all tempered by any sort of employment contract that Chambers may have had.

I don't disagree with Paul. But events in a former work place have seared the following into my mind.

A . Say nothing because it is a internal Matter .

B. "A" applies here.

I am not sure how things like this work above my Pay Grade but if it was me I would file for unemployment and make them show the related DOCUMENTS the counselings the warnings the meetings and the like  as to why I was fired .PROVE IT !  If that is allowed for folks in those kind of jobs .That will take care of all the leg work that will need to be done for her Cash it in Law suit !

I don't know if she had a contract or if her job had civil service protections, but employees in Texas usually work at will and can be fired for good reason, bad reason, or no reason at all.  No counselings or warnings are required.

Now if she were fired for refusing to do something illegal . . . .

There is a big difference between a Civilized  way to show someone the door and This Full on Broadway Production of Get this Lazy drunk Bi*ch Out of here. That we are seeing now.

The whole At Will idea is great as long a you Just say BYE BYE. You can have all the reasons you want for someone to be  gone just get your legal ? Human Resource department to handle up on the actual event . So you don't get caught up in a mess like this. But the second you start giving exact reasons ( BEING DRUNK )and dates of events( Caught LOAFING ) of why someone has been FIRED you better be able to PAPER TRAIL the heck out of the accusations .And show where you followed your own hand book rules rules or the letter of the contract . Before you FIRE them.

SILENCE is Golden afterwards..

Paul

The executive positions are usually by contract.

True, Texas is an "at will" employment state; however, most employers will want to terminate for cause in order to avoid an increase in their unemployment tax levy.  The unemployment tax levy is based upon how many employees you terminate or layoff without cause.

Employees who are terminated for cause cannot collect unemployment.

Maybe Opie and his hire got a little too friendly in their late night emails and Opie's wife found out, but otherwise, what is the deal with the claim that late night emails are unprofessional?  The content was over the top, maybe, but what is the issue with the time of day they were sent?  Ridiculous.  And talk about the beer keg champion calling the wine bag soused....puhleeze.  Opie is a famous frat boy party animal.  The dude seems drunk when he is sober.  Just saying.
