You Know Who Really Likes President Obama's Jobs Bill? Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins.

Speaking of President Obama's visit to Dallas yesterday ...

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins was among the D's who got to briefly meet with the president Tuesday. Which prompted an email sent out moments ago by Dallas County Public Information Officer Maria Arita, in which the attorney-turned-county judge insists not only has he read the American Jobs Act, but it's the best read of the year -- a real page-turned sure to put Dallas County back to work. How's that? Well, says Jenkins:
We need Congress to vote on this important legislation. It provides much needed help to our schools, which is critical because the cuts made to education funding by the state legislature will be much more severe next year. Without this bill Texas schoolchildren will lose thousands of teachers.

Additionally, the infrastructure bank would be extremely helpful to our local transportation projects. The current TIFIA program is too cumbersome for innovative projects and partnerships like the ones we're using in DFW. By increasing the flexibility on loans to public and private entities, an infrastructure bank will allow us to capitalize on historically low bids without losing time and purchasing power to drawn out negotiations. This would help with specific Interstate and State highway projects in our region that I believe would compete well for this funding.

Giving governmental entities more money?  They gotta spend what they get more effectively first.

But in the meantime he is cutting jobs right and left with the county. Especially law enforcement officers . Kinda ironic don't you think that he supports a job bill . Sure doesn't sound like he practices what he preaches !!

As much as it pains me to admit that Obama's administration has had a good idea, the Infrastructure Bank idea is one of the best ideas to come along in quite a while.  Republicans need to put the country over the party and move on that idea.

What innovative projects and partnerships are we doing in Dallas that don't already have funding?  When did we start doing innovative anything except for schemes that make somebody connected wealthy and leave the city holding the empty sack?  It had better not be that asinine toll road.

It's nothing but a tax bill with one small temporary tax cut. Everyone agrees that raising taxes is the wrong thing to do during a recession. Obama said this when he first took office and Bill Clinton said it last week. Majority of Senate Dems are opposed to it too, otherwise Harry Reid would allow it to come up for a vote.

Reps don't want it. Dems don't want it. Obama only wants it as an issue to make it look like he's actually doing something. this is just political theater.

So the problem is just that we'd be spending more borrowed money?

Hey Clay, if the bill is so great, why did a Republican Senator call the bill up for a vote and the Democrat Senate Majority Leader, Senator Harry Reid, prevent the vote?

Its amazing anyone actually reads anything anymore before giving an opinion. More than that reads to see what something does before just looking for what to complain about. Regardless what people think about anything there isn't enough time to do it until something stabilizes the situation. If you cut off your arm & tie it off about the cut there is a part of your arm not getting blood but if you bleed out the entire body dies. Cutting general taxes got us into the problem just cutting them more will not help us get out and if no one is working real jobs and not just minimum wage we will suffer for a 100 years

That would be a first during this administration.

I'm not sure that I agree with your "Everyone agrees" comment.  There are a lot of smart people out there who disagree with your perspective.

For a small business owner, the marginal tax rate is effectively the discount rate on investment.  That is, the owner can take profits and pay taxes, or they can invest the money in their business and avoid those taxes.  With a low marginal tax rate, it is more attractive to take money out in the form of profits.  At this point in our economy, that is not the best thing for the system as a whole.  If you increase the marginal tax rate, that small business owner will have more incentive to invest that cash rather than take it out.

it did not happen under Obama,You see people being laid off daily and folk in DC blaming Obama.Rick Perry has laid off thousands of Teachers and other State employees,ATT sent almost 7000 jobs to Panama. How can Obama, one man make enough job to employ people when a different group is laid off every day.

Before you brand me a Libtard, let me say that I am staunchly conservative economically, but I don't agree with the social policies of the far right.

It seems that your comment indicates one of two situations at play:

1.  You have been listening to too much Rush Limbaugh, or2.  You don't have a solid grasp of congressional politics.

Either way, thanks for playing. Your parting gift is a home version of the game.

So when are you writing your supplemental check to the Treasury to offset your tax cuts?

Sorry, but I'm not a fan of indefinite pronouns.  Does "That" mean a good idea, or does "That" mean cooperation across the aisle?

What is more important to the small business owner:  discount rate on investment or lower overall demand driven by increasing the marginal tax rate?  I think the latter.

cooperation

never gonna happen

Mr. Orange-glo and Mr Turkey Neck Douchbag are NEVER going to do anything to help the country so long as Obama is President.

Last year the top 5% in income did 37% of total consumer spending.  Almost all the actual growth in consumer spending came from that group.  I'd say a marginal tax increase on that group affects a lot more businesses than people selling Italian marble countertops to McMansions

PlanoDave

Fail.

Your assumption is that the marginal tax rate would be raised on everybody.  That has been off the table for years.  We are talking about a marginal tax rate increase on those making over $200,000 per year.  So, yes, small business owners who cater to those who live in the Frisco McMansions may feel that trade off, but that is a very small percentage of small businesses.

Some of you guys really need to get past "talking points" and do some of your own research and critical/analytical thinking.

Quit living in fear.
