Whoever's Taking Over the Old Whole Foods on Lower Greenville Is in No Rush to Do So

I called Mitchell Rasansky Friday -- because, you may remember, I was supposed to. Last month, the former council member and co-owner of the former Whole Foods on Lower Greenville said that come October 21, we should know to whom he was leasing that space -- be it a Walmart or a whatever. But when Rasansky returned my ring late in the day, he insisted he actually told me to call back on November 25. No, I told him: "You said 45 days 45 days ago." Then Rasansky said: Well, it doesn't matter now.

"They've asked for a third extension," he said, without, of course, ever mentioning who they are. So, we'll keep on waiting till the day after Thanksgiving.

And that's all he'll say about that. Well, except this: I told Rasansky there's a rumor going around that he's leasing the space to a well-known local eatery. That, he insisted, is not true: "It's not a restaurant," he said. "I would never do that to the people in the neighborhood." So there. Better than nothing.

Oh -- and speaking of Lower Greenville, that proposed bowling alley next to Good Records will have its last shot at a specific use permit Wednesday in front of the city council.

I also remember reading some time back that the WF lease specifies no direct competitors, and I think Trader Joe's is going in up in N. Dallas somewhere. SPECS is going in the old Toys R Us space on 75. I wish Elliot's Hardware could have come into the neighborhood. And doesn't WalMart have enough density now with the new store/Sam's at NW Hwy and Skillman and a Market at 75 and Haskell?

the rumors ive heard say that wfm controls the lease and wont let a direct competitor come in. that would rule out trader joe's but of course that was just a rumor. another i heard was a Spec's liquor, which would be cool but goody goody is just up the street.

Whole Foods is not a direct competitor to Trader Joes in most markets..In fact, have you been to a trader joes scott? The best comparison I can make to them is they match up more to a higher-end version of Aldi, which is to say all in-house brands..

Maybe no one is saying is because after the announcement is made everyone will say "who cares." I guess that would equate to it being a Trader Joe's.

Mr. Rasansky says he "would never do that to the people in the neighborhood." Please also don't impose Walmart on the neighborhood that does not want it and will not support it.

But not put a restaurant in? I don't think that there are any restaurants on LG except for Dodies, Taco Cabana and new Big Wong.

Thanks guys ... though my comment was intended as sarcasm since the problem of the businesses with a CO for "Restaurant without Drive Through Service" is somewhat well known ....

I forget whether it is Libertine or Service Bar which has the SUP for a bar. If it is Libertine, then it is a bar and not a restaurant even though it may serve food.

Thank you for the update Robert! I still say it's not going to be any type of Wal Mart. They would have already re-built, closed down and moved to another location down the block in the time it has taken for the fate of this property to shake out...
