At Last, One Very Good Reason to Avoid Lemmon Avenue: They're Finally Repaving It

Meant to mention this the last time I took Lemmon to work a few weeks back: Avoid it at all costs. But not for the usual reasons; not because it's "the road to Fallujah," as one Friend of Unfair Park called it a few months back. Well, OK, maybe it is now. But that's only because crews are out there at this very moment stripping the street before repaving Lemmon, the completion date set for some time in November, per the sign I espied on the drive in today. Which means, for now, Lemmon's down to one very slow lane between Inwood almost to Oak Lawn. Guess they can go ahead and archive that "Fix Lemmon Avenue!" Facebook page now.

They couldn't do ONE side and THEN the other?  No, no no...let's take both sides and chew them up leaving one lane open in both directions.  That should sufficiently piss off everyone in town.

Is this one of those repaving jobs where bike lanes are supposed to be added in the process?

I may be going too far, but could they POSSIBLY paint some stripes on the part between Oak Grove and Central that they HAVE repaved?  It's like driving in a very slow NASCAR race through there (save for the right-handed curve).

There are half-assed paving jobs like this all over town. On one street in my neighborhood, it seems like they didn't even try to make the street even.

There are, but you'd think the city would make a point to mark the lanes on a heavily-traveled 4-lane road.  Wait, now that I think about it...
