Do You Miss Pro Basketball Enough to Want to Watch the Josh Howard All-Stars?

Your World Champion Dallas Mavericks were supposed to take on the Indiana Pacers tonight at the American Airlines Center, the sixth of eight preseason games leading to November 1's regular-season opener against Chicago at the AAC. But with each passing day, it's looking more and more like the lockout will eat up much if not most if not all of the season; hence Dirk's comments over the weekend that he's considering a head-home to train with the Germans: "If the lockout still stays strong then I've definitely got to look into something there in January, February."

Some ballers -- Derrick Rose, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and Dwyane Wade among them -- are in talks to world-tour for big money, six figures to $1 million, depending. And then there's this: Word just arrived in the in-box that former Dallas Maverick Josh Howard's putting together a small-star group for a 10-city charity-game tour benefiting his foundation.

Among the stops: a November 12 game at P.C. Cobb Complex on Robert B. Cullum, across from Fair Park, that'll feature the likes of Jason Terry and Corey Brewer of the Mavs, Kimball's own Quinton Ross, former Mav-turned-Bobcat DeSagana Diop, Seagoville High School's LaMarcus Aldridge (one of The Association's comeback players of 2011, with the Trail Blazers) and others. Tickets are $15 -- $50, if you want to sit on the floor.

For $50 I would expect to be starting small forward on one of these joke teams.

meh.

I have better things to do with my time than watch a bunch of NBAers brother-in-law each other in games that mean nothing.

15 bucks ain't bad for a charity event. Looks like the real basketball played around these parts will be in the high schools where some nationally recognized teams are playing and down in Waco where the class of the Big 12 Bears will host other ranked teams like Kansas, A&M, Missouri and Texas. Baylor and Miss State play at the AAC in December.

The answer is no. If I'm going to sit in a high school gym watching basketball, I'll either be watching high school basketball or the And1 all stars. There were highlights of a game in OKC this weekend, the score was like 177-171 or somesuch. Really? And Michael Beasley scored 58 points. Oh, one other team I'd see in a high school gym? The Ticket getting beat by a girls high school team.

Baylor will be good but the "class of the big 12?"  slow down buddy.  There is this little school a little farther down 35 that If I recall correctly is returning every starter from last year.  Not to mention it hasnt mattered who KU graduated the last 7 yrs, they seem to win the big 12.  just saying
