Dallas County's Having Quite the Jewelry Sale

goldcoin.jpg
Just in time for the holiday season: your opportunity to give a loved one, or yourself, something from the Dallas County Collection of Seized and Forfeited Jewelry. And it's quite the collection at that, with lots filled with multiple rings, watches, necklaces, bracelets and even collectable coins -- including this one-ounce American Gold Eagle 50-dollar piece, which sells elsewhere for up to $3,000 and $4,000 but is currently up for grabs at the low, low price of $1,120. Me, I've got my eye on some rings.

Oh, and I've saved $4.29 from my, ahem, "financial aid" for aspirin for the bottle I'm giving you in return. To soothe the headache from moderating the terrible comments you must go through. Np. Tyvm.

I hope you've saved up for my "Titanic" necklace-knockoff, Robert. I do loves me some "rock".

Why would they sell an ounce of gold for $500 under melt value?

According to past auctions on www.liveauctioneers.com, this coin in 'proof' condition has sold anywhere from $680 to $1,600. Obviously price of gold is a factor, but this coin will never go for $3-4,000.

This is a great site to compare actual sold auction items.

you're right, it is tied to the price of gold, which is around $1,742 as of right now. 30 days ago it was $1,600 and as the market rebounds, you will see gold decrease. I looked at the various lots and thought it was pretty uninteresting.

I win the office over-under on how long it would take someone to make a variation on that joke.
