What's Going On, Nerds? Well, Deion Sanders Officially Has His Own Charter School.

They'll teach humility, right?
Earlier this week, The News reported that former Cowboy and smack-talking DirecTV fairy Deion Sanders was hoping to break into the education business. He was just awaiting state Board of Ed approval to open two charter schools in DFW -- one in Oak Cliff, the second in Fort Worth -- that would join a growing number of public charters that rather than shun athletics focus on them, hoping to use sports to teach leadership (and maybe win some titles? You think?).

Well, Sanders's classroom-and-chalk-line dreams have come true. The board just approved his charter (and several others), clearing the way for the schools to open its doors to what Sanders and his partners say will be between 600 and 1,000 kids, exactly none of whom will graduate knowing how to make an open-field tackle.

Well well!  2 months later and the truth is leaking out.  Deion Sanders is a fraud and has hooked up with a scam artist for a business partner. I hope they all go to jail.  Using kids to scam money from the state.  Neon Deion is broke and wants us to subsidize his extravagant lifestyle.http://www.statesman.com/blogs...

It all depends on the staff he hires, especially the principal.  In the worst-case scenario, charter schools are a for-profit entity, and every dollar spent on classroom supplies is a dollar less in the pocket of the owner.  In the best of them, a great staff can ensure great students.  But somewhere in between is the reality.  And don't forget, the fact that they pay the state minimum to teachers pretty much guarantees that they won't be getting the best.

I give it less than five years. Let's all follow along. See what happens. I give him credit for trying to inspire DISD kids over the years, but this is living proof that a charter school is edu-business. Get a guy with money and give him a school. No proof he knows what he is doing, no proof he has an academic plan. But hey, he was in football!

I wonder about the "Regresifness" they take in the childrens education both and off the field??

Did Sanders even graduated from college? All the online bios say "attended".

How much of his money, i.e. skin, is in the game? or is he just selling his name?

Well all know jocks make great educators, right?

Does this mean he could not shop his short son Deion Junior to Marcus High School as their quarterback this year and had to buy his kid a school?  Poor Junior could not look over his linemen when they were in the down position let alone when they were standing up and blocking.  And the kid did not get daddy's leg speed either.

Dang, can yall give Deion some credit for putting his heart, time and money into this project.  Have any of yall tried to start a school?  Before you criticize, see what the plans and curriculum are going to be.

A great majority of these charter schools are a joke.  I think this one pads those stats a little more.

Deion runs a sports camp in Duncanville, I believe that offers classroom instruction in math and reading in addition to sports. The kids are fed healthy food and Deion is there the wbole time. He offers all of this, all day for $50 per day.

How about we should see the plans BEFORE he gets a charter from the state?

If Deion is involved it's a scam.

Not so much of a joke when you realize your tax dollars are going into these failed experiments.

"failed experiment": a perfect description for DISD?
