NFL Films, Snickers Get Leon Lett to Seek "Redemption" For '93 Thanksgiving Eff-Up

No doubt you recall where you were at the exact moment Leon Lett cost the Dallas Cowboys a Thanksgiving Day victory over the Miami Dolphins in 1993. Me? I was icebound in Farmersville, cooped up with out-of-town family convinced it would be just fine to drive up to Collin County during a sleetstorm of epic proportions. Could have been worse, I guess. Could have been at Texas Stadium. Could have been Leon Lett.

That said: A Friend of Unfair Park directs our attention to the press release that directs our attention to the online NFL Films-made documercial for Snickers, tied to an ad campaign set to air during this year's Cowboys-Dolphins Thanksgiving do-over. After you watch the four-part film, they're asking for 25,000 "forgives" in order to put Leon in the Hall of Redemption, which I believe is in Euless. Me, I forgave the guy when the scoreboard read: Dallas Cowboys 30, Buffalo Bills 13.

Hornets nest here when I should be in bed. If memory is correct the forecast wasn't "even as close to the weather event that day". Drove the new wife and baby from Mesquite to Grapevine under great conditions that morning and the mother of all stress drives home that night being a new dad and all. We all got over it but will never forget that day.

My brother came in fron Ft Smith Arkansas and by god we were ready to see some football that day. we were walking up th isle to go to the car to go home when THIS happened. The jack dulled the pain

I remember well the 2 hour drive to the stadium from Garland in my brand new car. Had to stop and pick up an intern we were recruiting. She took the game tickets, asked for us to buy jerseys and memorabilia for her at the game, then, after driving an hour to her place to drop her off, she got out of the car and said, I'm not taking the job, thanks for the tickets. That was the second biggest kick to the crotch that day with Lett's fumble being first.

Oddly enough, I remember going to a Thanksgiving Dinner in Frederick, OK in anticipation of frozen precip. We were freezing, but the snow/ice passed over and landed in Dallas instead. Remember the bitter cold and watching the antics of Leon Lett on TV. Shout out to the back side of the Sons of Hermann Hall standing in as the "Hall of Redemption".

The funniest thing I remember coming out of that incident was that ESPN did some segment where schoolchildren wrote Lett letters to try to cheer him up. Most of the letters were pretty unremarkable, but one letter really stuck with me. It was something like "Cheer up, at least you weren't that idiot that got caught from behind and fumbled in the Super Bowl."

I was nine years old when ole Leon Lett screwed up that play. What comes to mind is the ice storm that my Mother drove threw to get to Rowlett for a Thanksgiving day celebration. I remember the red Ford Aerostar van we were driving in. Funny how memory works.
