Time For Another John Wiley Price Rally. This One, With Politicians and a Bounce House.

Speaking of a certain Dallas County commissioner ...

The Dallas chapter of the National Black United Front, which is not to be confused with the People's Front of Judea, sends word of a daylong rally scheduled for August 20 at the Pan-African Connection Bookstore near Fair Park -- and not just a pro-John Wiley Price wingding, though there's that, but a more comprehensive event titled "Hands Off! Bold Black Leadership Rally!" intended to outline the history of government-sponsored oppression of black leaders, a recurring theme at the "Justice for John" event last month. Matter of fact, a release sent out yesterday echoes quite a few sentiments shouted from the St. Luke "Community" United Methodist Church pulpit. A regular COINTELPRO bowl.

And, as with that event, this one's scheduled to feature noted guest speakers from out of town, among them Cynthia McKinney, the former Congresswoman from Georgia not known for being shy; New York City council member Charles Barron, founding chairperson of NBUF'S Harlem Chapter; and Houston council member Jolanda Jones, a former Survivor: Palau cast member currently embroiled in her own ethical dust-up with the Houston city attorney. Serving as "mistress of ceremonies," none other than Dallas city council member Carolyn Davis, last seen collecting checks in a basket for Price's legal defense fund at the Justice for John event.

Come on brothers and sisters, do you really think John Wiley Price is innocent.  That he has done nothing to warrant this investigation.  All of this is just make believe and an attempt by the "White Man" to bring him down.  If you do, no wonder we (Black People) are in the shape we are in.  Just because someone under investigation is black, doesn't mean that the system is out to get him....just saying.

Some poor sap is going to win the raffle and bring their utility bill.  They will be told, "No, we are only paying unitility bills. If you don't have one, we ain't payin'."

"Comehear black leaders from across America speak on the History of attacks by theFBI used to keep black people down"

I mightresearch the number of white politicians investigated by the FBI vs. the numberof black politicians investigated by the FBI and how that is proportional tothe breakdown of race percentage by population.

Doctors were unable to identify the cause of death.  The prosecutors botched the case by over-reaching.  I'm not defending Casey, just critical of sloppy prosecution, and gov't.

As a black woman, I find this "rally" mildly insulting. Thanks for setting us back a few decades.. idiots.

NBUF is a joke.People still stuck in pre civil rights movement that they Never participated in.How can they keep this money trick going in 2011.Pick a hand full of washed up politicians bring them here for pay,  and think someone will go hear that mess. Our Community is under attack from corrupt Black Leaders we have gone backward.Dr. King's bones must be rattling in his grave to have given  his life for us,and we continue to elect peoplelike John Price,Eddie Bernice Johnson and others.

"I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight, that we as a people will get to the promised land." MLK

Your right Betty, MLK knew the "Vicious Racist" were going to kill him. He knew he wasn't going to make it much further, but didn't care ("I'm not fearing any man, mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of The Lord." - MLK). He was ready to sacrifice his life for equality.

Now we have these street thugs in suits (including these black preachers), pulling the wool over the eyes of the entire black community. Stealing their tax dollars (black people pay taxes, right?). These actions are setting the black community back another 75 years. Yes, Martin Luther is turning over in his grave.

"Living every day under extensive criticism, even from negroes, I feel discouraged sometime."MLK

Martin Luther, those same negroes are still here, hurting the black community, stealing from the black community, conning the black community, but this time, in conspiracy with rich white families across the railroad tracks!!!

"Stand up for righteousness, stand up for justice, stand up for truth and Lo Allah will be with you, even until the end of the world." MLK

Help us Martin Luther!!!

Lots of great funny stuff in the comments here, but I have a somewhat more serious question or idea.

I would very much like to participate in a civil counter-event/protest across the street from the event.  I'm also a whitebread chicken shit and am not going down to fair park holding a sign (I'm thinking something simple, "I think John Wiley Price is a thug and a thief.  What do you think?") alone and without police presence/protection.  So the question is... am I alone?  Is there some group, someONE, that could/would file whatever is necessary with the city, make sure there is police protection and just organize such an event?  I would personally gladly pay to help cover expenses if there were some.  I imagine others would as well.  These event in support of JWP is a horrible travesty, a disservice to the black community and just all around wrong.  The many is a thug, and rallying to his defense just because he's black, particularly when the primary victims of his thuggery are also black, is just so sad and wrong.  I think some civil counter protestors would likely get a LOT of coverage in the local media and really put a spotlight on the hypocrisy of the event.  I'd like to be involved, but I can't lead it.  Anybody?

Peace,Randy

I would do that.  Go to the event carrying a sign that says,  "JWP betrayed YOU!"

This is nothing but a scare tactic. A rent-A-Mob consisting of racists, and losers.with no worthwhile agenda.

"Beat back the attack on Black Leadership Rally",with instructions on how to do it. People will show up just for the light bill payment and groceries.

The instructions on how to beat back the attacks, come a little late for John Wiley Price

The only way to help Price now is to come up with some solid evidence that he['s squeaky clean. Singing and Dancing won't work. Political corruption is no different than drug trafficking. It has the same negative affects on society. Would they hold a Rally for the neighborhood Crack dealer under investigation by the FBI,if he happens to be Black?

scottindallas
scottindallas

Drug dealing doesn't steal from public coffers.  Drug dealing doesn't hurt those uninvolved.  The prohibition of drugs drives this business underground and creates problems.  I wish JWP was no more damaging to the community than a drug dealer.

Jack Schitt
Jack Schitt

You must be on Drugs to think that Drug trafficking doesn't hurt those uninvolved. Ask any  innocent parent whose child is addicted to drugs. Children born to drug addicts are innocent victims. Drug addiction leads to crimes as a source of income to feed the addiction. Drug treatment/rehab centers are funded with your tax dollars. Drug trafficking causes much destruction to the fabric of society.

Political Corruption and Drug trafficking are felony crimes that have negative impact on society. Political Corruption can be fixed by voters who want a change. Voting doesn't stop Drug Trafficking. Its time for JWP to go.

scottindallas
scottindallas

There are too few comments that acknowledge for whom JWP is carrying water--it ain't the Black community, it's Ross Perot Jr and the Dallas Citizen's Council.  That is the source of most corruption, most inside dealing, waste, fraud and abuse.  Only, they have the system rigged, with sycophants and lackeys who hope to kiss the golden ring.  Shoot JWP, it won't change the power structure in this city.

What should we do about drugs, make them illegal?  We have and we have this problem.  The problems with alcohol were far more pernicious, far more unmanageable when alcohol was prohibited.  Your pursuit of simpleton solutions for complex problems only amounts to burying one's head in the sand.

I saw four illegals in a pre-trial hearing for refining and selling Ice.  They had guns, but didn't use them, in fact they fled when the police raided.  Because of this they were in Federal court facing 30 years each.  This is a gross waste of our resources for no good end.  You may as well ban hurricanes and tornadoes, it will have as much effect.  Regulating, taxing and controlling these drugs would be far more effective from a policy and cost perspective than our current policies.  There was a case just this week where a whole police dept was charged with stealing money, drugs from busts and distributing.  If we apply the equal protection clause, these laws are unconstitutional.  Legalizing them would take this temptation away, would go a long way toward restoring our civil rights, which are a joke to police today.

President Carter's Surgeon General stated that occasional, recreational use of cocaine is benign.  The same is true of psychedelics, and marijuana--these drugs have fewer side effects than many pharmaceuticals like SSRI's, many drugs provided to treat other psychological problems.  Another effect of drug prohibition is that stronger drugs become more popular--just as white lighting was popular, where less potent alcohols have become more popular.  The potent drugs are easier to transport as contraband.

Another pernicious effect of drug prohibition is inconsistent potency.  Many of the heroine deaths in the late 90's are directly related to a competition among suppliers (much from Afghan suppliers, trafficking through Turkey, Israel to the US with CIA involvement) the potency got so high that veteran users were getting "hotshots" and overdosing on this suddenly potent stuff.  Heroine was used as a treatment for alcoholics before the 1920s, where people lived productive lives on the white horse.  I've never done heroine, though I do have some friends who have--several have overdosed, and a few have died.

Think also of the exorbitant cost of pharmaceuticals that are all inferior and more dangerous than heroine itself--the acetaminophen in many narcotics are more dangerous than if controlled and regulated pure narcotics were available.  But, here we're getting to the heart of the matter.  Drugs are illegal for the benefit of Police, Pharma, and big gov't.  The cost financially, to our civil rights, the corruption of our police, military/intelligence agencies and the destruction of Mexico are all far too costly, for your little nanny agenda.

Jack Schitt
Jack Schitt

We have a Politician here in Dallas County that is under investigation by the FBI for possible violation of Federal Statues. If he and other consipirators are indicted and found guilty,we can make an effort to restore honesty to County Government. We also have a tremendous Drug abuse problem in communities throughout the Country. Some Drugs will never be legalized and for good reason. These Civil Rights activists time could be better spent, educating the public against drug use and Political corruption. Instructing people how to beat back the FBI is not the answer. I know Jack Schitt

scottindallas
scottindallas

Keeping drugs illegal, unregulated makes all these problems worse.  It's harder for a highschooler to get alcohol than drugs.  When someone OD's we tell them we'd rather they die than get treatment.  Lin Bias went into anaphalatic shock 3 times over many hours, but his friends were too scared to call for help.  He wasn't a druggie, he was allergic to cocaine.  Where it has been tried, legalizing drugs had led to a reduction of drug use.  So, these problems are there, and are exacerbated by the drug war.  We could instantly convert the drug war to the cola wars, just by legalizing it.  It's drug prohibition that causes the problems with drug trafficking.  You don't know Jack Shit.

As evidenced by the amount of care which was taken to prepare the flyer, how much time you think was put into getting a special events permit, police/security, porta-potties and food service permits?  If not, considering a council member is the "mistress of ceremonies", it will be ironic if they violate city ordinances and laws to rally against FBI attacks regarding violations of laws.

 Jim Bob Guthrie
Jim Bob Guthrie

The ultimate enforcers of the law here are Eric Holder and Barack Obama.  I haven't looked at a picture of them lately, but the last I checked they were black too.

scottindallas
scottindallas

Yeah, cause both Obama and Holder are such ardent advocates for Black people.  Both men have been more ardent in prosecuting whistleblowers, undermining the FISA courts and many other very establishmentarian positions.  But way to define the world in terms of Black and White.  Pot, meet kettle.  THAT'S THE MOST IRONIC PART HERE.

LesliO
LesliO

I'm going with Jewish law here and declaring Obama white.  He's as white as he is black, and his mother was white, so voila, he's white.  Now not liking him no longer makes me a racist.  Nanny nanny poo poo.

Chris Danger
Chris Danger

Thats the real ironic part here, JWP and his friends have been talking up about how whitey is conspiring against them...This reminds me of something Obama said in his acceptance speech in 2008, along the lines of "handling up in the community"...I think this is a direct result of that. Another reason I like our current president..

This event is designed to raise revenue, awareness and more importantly, work on the sympathetic nature of prospective jury pool participants that may be involved in any and all FBI corruption trials connected to this issue. The speaker list is a little heavy on the Nation of Islam side.  At least one other speaker (Carolyn Morris) has been known to run with the Nation during her time as Lancaster ISD board president.

Therefore, this rally will have a very different tone than the other ones held so far. Look at their website.  This is not about prayer it is about uprising.  While I felt that JWP was capitalizing on the fears of the AA community with the other rallies, I feel that the Nation is capitalizing on JWP with this rally.

What's the over/under on the use of the word "white devil" at this rally?

Ben
Ben

I do not see how a practicing Muslim(many of the speakers claim to be) from the 66 trillion year old Tribe of Shabazz could participate in this event during Ramadan. They should be in deep reflection preparing for Eid-ul-Fitr. Although I noticed the bow tied Nation of Islam boys that bark at cars on MLK Blvd cannot even get within the right 180 degrees of the Qibla to face Mecca when they pray.

scottindallas
scottindallas

The Nation of Islam and Islam are not the same.  Many start with NoI and move to traditional Islam.  There is nothing wrong with a fasting Muslim going to a rally.  Muslims are supposed to continue their daily endeavors.  Even more, to promote justice is even more blessed during this holy month.

I am no fan of JWP.  Certainly there are many who are reacting in a knee-jerk fashion.  But, the commenters here have no cause judging others for knee-jerk reactions.

20 bucks the terms "Cracker" "Honkey" "Whitey" and "Ol' Fade" will be said by someone on stage, in the bounce house, drum circle and/or at the Unitility Bill giveaway drawing...

The person who wrote this flyer clearly graduated from a DISD school or one with a similarly horrible track record. Or English is this person's second language.

If I wasn't going to Austin to something that white people do (attend a baseball game), I would love to show up to listen to those who are treated so unfairly and use the system to their advantage. Boo hoo for JWP! What a manipulative whiner!

them pro-sports events ain't cheap.  You should reflect on what your comment really says.  It kinda affirms the narrative that many at that rally hold.

What is really disturbing, if you weren't so narcissistic as to evidently be incapable to understand the plight of others you so easily mock, are the vast tax dollars that go to support those billionaire franchise owners. I can't afford to go to a Cowboys game, over $750 for two tickets.

What's even more sad are the Baby boomers can't do attitude. They are the most coddled, least taxed generation in history, and they just can't extend the benefits they received from their depression era parents to our generation. They got cheap college education, roads that were paid for, and progressive tax rates. All gone. IF you can't understand their resentment, you must be a terribly cloistered, spoiled, narcissistic, developmentally delayed child yourself.

Anyone notice that it doesn't actually say bounce "house"? It just says "Kiddie Bounce".  That conjures all sorts of images.  And yeah,  I could use some help with my unitility payment too.

I did notice that as well.  My concern is about the quality of the drums and dancing since they did not deserve the exclamation points afforded the Kiddie Bounce and soul food.

Ha good point, but it does say "African drum", so there will apparently only be one; thereby not deserving of an exclamation point.

rumpunch

I don't think anger has anything to do with it.  However, our criticisms will just be written off as racism.  Apparently, correcting spelling and asking public officials the location of county assets is the new version of German Shepperds and fire hoses.

When I see a white business leader or politician indicted for fraud, I do not take it personally.  If we supported that person, we become mad at that person for violating our trust.  We do not get mad at the FBI or judge.  White people were just as mad about Casey Anthony as they were about OJ.

scottindallas
scottindallas

There's not a scintilla of evidence that Casey Anthony killed her child.  Sadly, the cocky prosecution charged her with murder.  There appears to be good evidence that she covered up the death of her child, and is/was a neglectful parent.  She should have been charged with that, not something for which there was no evidence.  You anger should be directed toward the prosecutors for being so stupid, and cocky.

Andy Nold

FWIW, race of the author has nothing to do with my criticism of poor spelling. I will go spellcheck mode on a white guy just as quickly. And before anybody goes judging me, I have friends who are poor spellers.
