Rasansky Says You'll Know Sooner Than Later What's Replacing Greenville Ave. Whole Foods

I see Avi's posted a piece to Barking Dogs wondering whether a Walmart will take over the old Whole Foods on Lowest Greenville. Writes Adelman, yesterday "teams of inspectors -- electrical, structure, property, roofing -- swarmed all over the building, taking photos, comparing architectural drawings to reality, and deciding what made sense and what did not." But nobody would tell him anything.

Angela Hunt told Unfair Park this morning that a "grocery store has been mentioned" for the site, but she's heard "nothing more specific." She did say that current zoning would allow Walmart to plant one of its smaller markets, but not a big box: "That's not possible on that piece of land." And when I asked Karl Zavitkovsky, head of the Office of Economic Development, if that spot will count towards the "more than a dozen new projects in the city of Dallas" mentioned by the city back in February, he said, "I honestly do not know."

But you know who does? Former council member Mitchell Rasansky, who owns the property. So let's ask him.

"I have signed a confidentiality agreement," he told me moments ago. "I can say that a lease is out, but I am not at liberty to tell you who it's with."

I asked: So when will you be able to say? To which he responded: "In about six weeks."

Great big, empty trucks, the kind that follow city sanitation trucks around on curbside bulk trash pickups, were at the site at noon today. As if there to haul off gutted interior. Not city-owned vehicles, but no logos on truck doors. Roaring in and out. Lots of activity.
I hope they open a MEGA BAR with Mexican music blasting out its doors!!! Avi will love that!!

La Vista Ct is one of the coolest streets in Dallas. Too bad it's surrounded by Lowest Greenville now. S.U.A.D.

Joanne, ever since you moved out of that two-bit shack just off Matilda, the parties have gone non-stop in celebration. Even Jeanne Terelli bought a brick in your honor for wall, right near the toilet drain. Now you desecrate Bryan Place with your presence, so much that the Democrats could not rush fast enough to make sure you were never ever going to a precinct chair. It's sad you are an elections judge, but some of us are working to make sure the County does not make that mistake next year. As to Avi, at least you can sit down and have a relatively reasonable conversation with him. Sitting with you to talk makes me want to sit in the electric chair and beg for the warden to pull the switch and end my pain and suffering.

Lower Greenille used to be a neighborhood where kids could walk to the movies,wander the hobby shop,buy bubble gum at the grocery store and buy ice cream at the little mom and pop stores before all the bars took over.In Dallas we have forgotten about the quality of life and focus on what the developers and what their money will buy.I imagine most of the bars don't live or care about the Lower Greenville neighborhood. I think a grocery store would be great Make the neighborhood a walkable destination!
Whats wrong with Walmart? I would like to see a Walmart Neighborhood Market in Desoto? I have yet to see one in Southern Dallas County.
Avi's a lot of things. A lot of horrible, corrupt things. But his idea that people on Lowest Greenville should pee indoors and not, you know, shoot each other is one of his less unreasonable positions.

Also, I believe Walmart owns the land most if not all their stores are located on, I don't think they lease.
If it's anything like the Uptown Walmart you will know it is arrives when a cloud of gloom, despair and unhappiness envelops the area. They need to figure out how to pump anti-depressants into the store air, everyone, staff and customers looks like they are seriously considering ending it all during their time in that depressing store.

could be a walmart. has anyone seen the volume of business that Fiesta is doing? a low-priced grocery would be wise to open up in that old WholeFoods location to lure business from Fiesta and from Kroger.

Look, a lot of folks have long wondered what's going in that space. Avi, like others, is throwing out a rumor. I thought it was worth chasing down, one way or the other. Anyone could have thrown it out there. But nobody's bothered to ask the actual owner of the building what's up with the space, which has been vacant for, what, two years? So I did. And now we know ... or will in six weeks, anyway.
Well, that's obvious. Robert Wilonsky cares.
