No One Seems Terribly Interested in Confirming or Denying Feds' Search at Parkland Wednesday

Parklandfront.jpg
Part of what we do in the reporting biz is look for the anomalous response. I emailed Parkland Hospital earlier this afternoon asking about information I received that the FBI showed up there last night with search warrants related to the Commissioner John Wiley Price investigation.

Candace White of the Parkland PR staff just emailed me back: "Because of the nature and importance of FBI inquiries, we would not be at liberty to disclose the existence or nonexistence of such an inquiry." I emailed her: "As important as they may be, it's easy to deny them if they have not happened. I must take this email as your decision not to deny."

I also attempted to confirm through FBI spokesperson Beverly Esselbach, who just told me, "I can't confirm or deny it right now. You can read that as you will."

The feds, of course, are looking at several people and businesses related to Dallas County-run Parkland, among them lobbyist Willis Johnson, who has multiple contracts related to the construction of the new hospital, among other things.

Me, I smell smoke.

Or, put your house on the market for what it cost you 22 years ago, and forget pocketing the equity, which by the way, has been subsidized by taxpayers since you wrote off your mortgage interest.

Tax laws favor homeowners and you can walk off with the tax-subsidized profit on your home tax free.

Again, EnoughAlready, when do you return the goodies granted you by the government?

Parkland is the healthcare equivalent of DISD.I am for taxpayer-funded education and free healthcare for every child under 18, whether they live  here legally or not; I'm pretty sure most Americans feel the same way.The problem is the bureaucratic middlemen who skim off a significant portion of the money. The only solution I see are vouchers.  That's the only way to cut out the bureaucrats.  Give individuals their vouchers, narrowly define which entities can cash the voucher checks, and let individuals decide where to send their children and where to go to the doctor.I'm open to other ideas, of course. We just have to dismantle this "governing" class that is wasting the money intended to help fellow citizens.

While the FBI is looking at the contracts for Parkland, they should also check next door at UT Southwestern where the absence of Price and the Commissioner's Court hasn't said one thing about the negative press or the lack of medical oversight promised by the contract with Parkland and approved by the commissioners. What is the amount of Federal dollars involved in the Parkland and UT Southwestern projects? Are the minority contractors charging more than others? How many have a connection to all of the people under the scrutiny of the FBI? For years we have seen the irresponsible behavior of the Commissionner Court, lead by Price, who also "oversees" the Parkland Hospital management and the contract with UT Southwestern.I submit that Price has received priority from UT Southwestern ,beginning with Kern Wildenthal. this was the "cost of doing  business" as UT Southwestern could raise its contract pricing, lower its staff committment, and "take care" of Price and all is well. Could Wildenthal, in turn, use these millions in contracts to solict "donations" which could have been paid by "change orders"? All of those involved with Price and Nealy and, even,Royce West , will eventually be contacted by the FBI. Price and his cronies have been a cancer upon this city and its taxpayers for more than 20 years.Time to pay the piper.

Could this be classic misdirection? While everybody was busy looking at the Inland Port they swooped in on the big score in Parkland?  Or are they just so brazen and arrogant that they believe everything is theirs for the taking?  This might be huge!  Bigger than anyone could have imagined. Sic 'em boy!

Larger things are on the horizon. And I think the the old way of doing things needs to be done away with .Certain players have to go  . Newer more cooperative faces will be added .

Did anyone see Price's attorney (Ravkind?) on channel 8 news this evening? He referenced JWP's romantic relationships with influential women as a plausible excuse for some of the questionable $$. Huh?

Anybody watch the HBO series Treme? This development is reminding me of show's season finale which had an arc dealing with a real-life councilman who took bribes, the building of a new hospital, and the Feds.

I love the smell of equity in the morning. You know, one time we shook a company down for twelve hours. When it was all over, I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' brown envelope that could be traced back. Just papers for signatory shares. The smell, you know that equity smell, the whole business. Smelled like... victory.

I know you are welcome to have your own opinion.  But, I disagree with your ascertion that "most Americans" are for taxpayer funded free healthcare for under 18.  I am not for it, and most Americans that I know are not for it either.

Why should I be forced to pay for someone else's irresponsibility?  If a person cannot provide for their own children they should not be having children.  I live across the street from a very nice park near downtown.  Every single day as I walk my dogs I see 30-40 different families of Mexicans.  Each adult is accompanied by an average of 3-5 kids.  It is not uncommon to see two women, both pregnant, and they are with 7 or 8 kids.

Why do I have to pay for these low income people to have hordes of kids they cannot afford.  Go walk by the Healthy & Human Serv. bldg on Gaston.  Every single day it is mobbed with Mexican woman, most of whom are pregnant, and toting an add'l 2-4 kids.

They receive subsidized Section 8 housing, foodstamps in the amount $700-$1000/mo., free healthcare at Parkland.  And, of course, we pay for their kids' school and the free breakfast served at the school, and the free lunch, and of course, the free after-school (day care) for the kids.

We are a bunch of dopes for providing this to illegals.  Of course they will continue to cross our borders.  We make it too appealing for them to stop.

My wife and I bought our so-so modest home 22 yrs ago.  The property tax values have soared.  As a result we now pay $4,345 tax just to cover the taxes on only Parkland and DISD.  That is $362/month to educate and provide medical to all those illegal children. Again, I realize you have an equal right to your own opinion, but I just wanted to point out to you that I feel strongly that "most Americans" do not want to pay for all (including illegals) under 18 free healthcare and education.

FYI:  I am not a tea-bagger or a Republican.  I'm just tired of being everybody's cashcow.

That's on the north side of Dallas, where those pale folks who are going straight to hell dwell. I can't believe they'd want equity in *that*. Say it ain't so, JWP!

Not to mention all the new political seats they want because our 2010census count everone even if half are illegals.

Many share in your frustration, but please consider that we teachers are doing our damnedest to keep ALL kids in school in order to graduate... Statistics show that the MORE education a WOMAN has, the FEWER children she will have. What you see is a reflection of my great-grandparents. They were from Sicily. Illiterate, poor, unskilled. They had 8 children, 6 survived. No, there was no welfare then, so all kids --but one--quit by 6th grade to work. No health care, no good clothing, not enough wood. Really? You want that for anyone?

The next generation all graduated from high school, and their birthrate dropped by half.... and so on...until almost all of their great-grandhcildren have college degrees and nobnody has more than 3 kids.

Yep, they came here legally. But the story will be the same. Calm down. Take a breath. These people --and I am not saying I am in favor of illegal immigration, because I am not, are getting MEDICAL CARE. They are not making money off of it. Their children --you  know, are children of God  like you and me, and should have access to medical care. Period. End of story. To DENY CHILDREN MEDICAL CARE--are you listening to yourself? That alone wil make us ALL sicker, endanger us, because diseases and illnesses don't know immigration status.

Tell you what. Go to that park. Bring cheap, used children's books from a thrift store. Lay them out on a table and ask the moms if they would like one. Do something to help us in the classroom.

THEN, when you go out to eat, make sure the restaurant has NO illegals there. Same for any other place of business. Turn in employers--your friends--who hire the HUSBANDS AND FATHERS of these women and children you resent so much.

trashtalk
trashtalk

Didn't know illegals were so clearly discernible, but the fastest way to decrease the number of kids per family is educating women. It seems your actual complaint is visible poverty.

By the way, when are you going to return the cost of your government-sponsored education since you are against paying the cost of public education? Unless you went to private k-12 and a private college with no federal loans, you "owe" the taxpayers for all that time on the public dole. Twelve years at any area ISD is a chunk of change plus the cost of taxpayer sponsored college in this state. Total tab is easily over $100K, so when do we get the check?

DISD Teacher
DISD Teacher

I understand your points, but consider this:-They are getting free healthcare anyway, but currently we have to pay for people to process forms, pretend to check on their eligibility, yada yada yada.  Imagine the salaries we cut and be done with if we just treated all kids in our country for free.  Sort of like free lunch in school.  Just feed all of them and be done with all the paperwork and personnel.  It would be CHEAPER that way.

-I do believe most Americans would not deny a sick/injured child healthcare or surgery

-I once heard someone say, "Go to the most selfish place in your heart and realize that free K-12 education for every child--including children of illegals--will ultimately benefit Americans' bottom lines."  I feel the same way about healthcare.  A healthy, educated mankind will only make the world a better place.

Services for able-bodied, illegal adults is a whole 'nother discussion.In-state college tuition for illegals while foreign students and out-of-state citizens pay much more?  Another whole 'nother discussion.

I think he was implying that the money is FROM them, not to them.

I also meant to add that the reason you pay so much in taxes to DISD is the WASTE and FRAUD that our school board does nothing about.  In fact, they seem to encourage it for political reasons.

Set your sights on changing the school board and maybe your taxes won't go up.
