How'd He Get That Shot? The Fireworks Over Fair Park, From Both Sides of the Lens.

There were no Fair Park Fourth-goers to be found in the Esplanade Fountain this year, not like last year. All was calm and orderly as thousands marched into the Cotton Bowl, save those who didn't want to ditch their baby strollers. And, yet again, the great Justin Terveen was on hand to capture the spectacle -- this year, from high atop the star-spangled tower near the Fair Park DART station, from which he'd hoped to recreate, as best he could, this iconic shot of Fair Park taken during the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition.

On the other side: a shot of the shooter. And no, Justin, that doesn't look scary at all.

First off, amazing shots, Justin! Scaling (or taking an elevator) to the tops of towers to get the money shots is exactly what a true artist does!

Second, mucho gratis for the fire warning that kept out those darn strollers. One small step for the Cotton Bowl, one HUGE STEP for parental accountability, bruised ankles, and events without audible whining (from the children, that is.)

OK--hate on me--it's like Shutze's baby buggers article, take 2. http://blogs.dallasobserver.co... . But, I'm right.

I wouldn't do it, but how does one come to be at the top of that tower?  Are there stairs?

Well done. It looks like he had a police escort, too!

I kept wondering why there were barricades directly around this tower.... I guess I never thought to look straight up.
