Fun With Audio, Part 1: Craig Miller, George Dunham Learn How to Pronounce "Mary Suhm"

Two items-for-listening this morning: First up, a by-request; then, Schutze combs through his recordings archives and discovers he's sitting on a JWP best-of.

Here, to begin, is a segment that aired on The Ticket Friday morning -- one week after Craig Miller and George Dunham acknowledged that they knew so little about the most powerful person in Dallas they weren't quite sure what she did ... or how to pronounce her name. I hosted a few segments at week's end, filling in for the vacationing Gordon Keith, and used the final one to introduce Suhm to the boys, who asked about the city budget ... and John Wiley Price and keys to the city. Several Friends have asked for a replay, and KTicket's Jeremy Moran was kind enough to send it along.

Now why would Mary Suhm need to do a campaign-style radio appearance?

It's really sad that so many citizens know so little about just the basics of our system. I'm not talking about the power struggles or who pissed in who's Cheerios but things like how a city is governed.  How many times have you heard JWP called a city councilman or shock that there's a difference between the city and county? It's somehow seen as a badge of honor to be ignorant of civics.

Very informational. But, any of Gordon Keith's diehards probably were scratching their brains so hard at what Robert was saying, that they found their fingers full of shit.

For those who don't mind a bit o'learnin' in the a.m., I thought it was a great grade-school catch up on Ms. Suhm. Awesome.

she did NOT seem on board with the musers - especially their JWP joke series

From a lowly librarian to the most powerful person in Dallas, wow!

It looks like somebody hit her in the face with a shoe.

To be fair: Because I asked her. She was reluctant. I cajoled.

Or just not knowing. I don't know anyone keeping abreast of local issues. No dates, no friends...they look at me like I'm the retarded one for being informed. They say, "'JWP'? Is that one of those indie movies coming out that you're gonna drag me to?" Anyone who doesn't make it a point to follow the issues just doesn't know.

Maybe you need smarter friends. All the old farts I hang with are paying attention because they KNOW John Wiley Price and have known him for years.

See, that's just it. Few of my friends are over 30. The dates are, which, I then attribute to laziness. But, it is righteously uncool to appear smart in Dallas about anything that is not drinking, brands, or, quoting "Family Guy". I had to sit that last one out. Not that it's bad--I'm just not that, uh, informed, when it comes to "my generation".
