Author, Professor Michael Eric Dyson Will Speak at Sunday's "Justice For John" Rally

RallyforPricePoster.jpg
On Tuesday Jim noted the rally for John Wiley Price scheduled for 4:30 p.m. this Sunday at the St. Luke "Community" United Methodist Church on East R.L. Thornton Freeway. But, moments ago, we received further details from Vincent Hall, the Dallas County commissioner's office manager, who notes via press release that the rally is being sponsored by Justice for John, "a committee of concerned citizens, social justice organizations, churches and civic groups."

And it will feature among its scheduled speakers not only Zan Holmes but also Georgetown University sociology professor Michael Eric Dyson, author of such books as Debating Race, Is Bill Cosby Right? Or Has the Black Middle Class Lost Its Mind?, and April 4, 1968 Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Death and How It Changed America. I asked Hall how they managed to land Dyson, who also hosts a public-radio show and is a frequent guest on Meet the Press and Real Time with Bill Maher on HBO.

Says Hall, Dyson "has been a friend of the commissioner's over the years, and we were able to get him to attend." The reason Dyson was invited, says Hall, is because "the whole issue of the FBI investigating African-American officials isn't new to Dallas, and you've got elected officials all over the country dealing with the same thing. So I think he'll hit on it from the national and local perspective. He's been through Dallas quite a bit on book tours, and speaking to churches here for the last 15, 20 years, so he knows Dallas."

I've left a message for and sent an email to Dyson; I'll post a new item when he get back to us. Till then, this too is from the release: "The 94.5 radio show, Freddy Haynes Unscripted, will broadcast live from the rally. The Justice for John committee recognizes that Commissioner Price has stood for us and we will stand with him. Those who believe in JUSTICE FOR ALL are urged to attend."

Unfortunately I'm going to be out of town this Sunday, otherwise....

I've been looking for the opportunity, the right time and the right place, to protest/demonstrate in a civil manner publicly against JWP and all that crookedness and racism that he represents, the damage that he has done to our city over the years... this would be the perfect venue.  If I was in town, I would take the considerable personal risk, make a large tasteful placard, and simply hold it up.  Not sure exactly what I would put on it, something along the lines of JWP deserving prosecution for his crimes, and specifically not mentioning race.  I'd then leave it up to the local racists that will be attending the "justice" rally to make it about race. It would be good to see a civil anti-JWP position included in whatever coverage this faux "justice" rally generates.

Ah, the race card.  I knew it wouldn't be long.  If I'm black and you investigate me you must be a racist.  I can't wait to see this clown convicted.  Maybe he can share a cell with Don HIll?

Hall is on taxpayers time planning events for Boss under criminal investigation something wrong with that picture.Hall knows people are not supporting John Price at these so called prayer rallies so they bring in National figure to draw crowd.People will go out to hear Dyson and not support Price. Its sad they are playing same old game it will not work this time.Black people will defend John as long as he is being done wrong Not When He Is Accused of Doing Wrong,There is a Big Difference.

I too wish justice for JWP.  Justice, but not mercy.

Is there anyone selling t-shirts yet with JWP's face on it with just a caption of  "Sheeeeeiiiiiiit!!" yet? Cause I'd totally buy one.

JWP use to have his "warriors" which were big into street protests or rather slowing traffic to a crawl by semi-blocking intersections.  As I recall they were in front of Parkland on Harry Hines, across from the NE police sub-station on NW HIghway and in front Of Laura Miller's house.

Guess the "warriors" will be back in front of the offices of the FBI

The bigger news is Zan Holmes.

Can we propose at least one white guy gets investigated soon so we can defuse the whole racism claim? I think Mayor Rawlings should step up and be that guy since he used the same consultant.

Robert, Wonder how many of his books the good church people are going to commit to buy with their love offering for Dyson?   He just made it onto the Feds' witness list.  Hope the trip is worth his while otherwise.  We'll pull Dyson's 990 and let you know.

Do they want me to just assume everybody who works at the FBI is white?

I want Justice for John! He has been persecuted for much too long, but so far has avoided prosecution! The bullshit about this being a racial issue just shows how lame his defenders really are. This man has been corrupt for a very long time, and this time perhaps he will have to answer to people who are not intimidated by him. Go long, John! Go for 10-15 years! A prison suit will look good on you. The reason why the FBI investigates black city leaders is because they take it upon themselves to corrupt their offices and enrich themselves instead of doing the "public service" they were elected to do. This is going to be a lot more fun than the OJ and Casey Anthony trials put together! And, if they find any white elected officials who have been involved in crimes, tehn nail their asses, too! We need to get ALL the corruption out of our governmental system so that government can return to doing the work of the people, by the people for the people. JWP has always been a crook, and this time he may be caught with his pants down - just like Diane Ragsdale was at Randall Mill Park in Arlington when she was carpetmunching.

I still have my t-shirt from the 'Justice for Don' rally.

I got it in a parking lot behind a church.

We too want justice for john. Hopefully it will come when a jury of 12 hears the evidence of the crimes & shakedowns he has committed & CONVICTS him for a very long time. Then maybe he can play dominoes with Don Hill & company.

I'll ask again, and Id like a straight answer from someone in the community for once: Why is everytime a brother or sister is investigated, you end up having some sort of rally or prayer/tent meeting where everyone seems to cast aspersions on all of the anglo community because they decided to investigate someone for wrong-doing. Not every african-american man or woman isnt innocent, as many other men and women in other communities are guilty as sin for something as well. Instead of having rallies for people you know are crooked, why not step up and start demanding accountability from your leaders or, better yet, push new and progressive voices into the limelight via the grassroots level..

I think everyone can agree that we want 'Justice for John.' Time will tell what exactly kind of justice we're talking about.

Maybe they should hold a rally in favor of passing a law that says the FBI can't investigate black folks, since any investigation into the crimes of an African-American is just a racial witch hunt and all.

So let me get this straight... the allegation is that the Obama administration is racist?

And this is being said with a straight face?

I am with  you Betty, we as a people need to WAKE UP and understand that John Wiley Price has done nothing but fatten his pockets and used his district for no other reason than his selfish agenda.

If you'll recall, a white guy also went to jail in the Don Hill mess.  In fact, a Highland Park white guy went to jail.

Sure, he knows how "things work," but there's no way Mike had a direct hand. If you go after Rawlings, then you also need to look at Leppert, Miller and Kirk. They used Kathy, too.

Look closer at the N. Dallas consultants for the smoke, then the heads of the families and real estate interests for the fire. Or so says conventional wisdom.

because that aint "keeping it real" homey.  I find it even more interesting that these corrupt leaders who claim to fight for civil rights, only bring more blight to the community, holding people back and looking out for themselves.

Right on Phelps!

The irony is, that it took a black President to come in and change the corrupt system of black politicians and black preachers selling out their constituents and congregation to the rich white people across the railroad tracks. In my opinion, Obama doesnt care about the few black politicos and the few black preachers that are corrupt, he cares about the masses and whats good for the people - all people. And his administration has decided to finally put a stop to this racism, discrimination. What is really sad, are the people that have no clue their preacher and politician are working together to sell out their best interest.

When that awakening happens, which is fast approaching - Watch out - HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!

TIME FOR THE CHANGE OBAMA PROMISED!!!!!!

GOD BLESS THIS ADMINISTRATION AND GIVE THEM THE POWER PROSECUTE ALL THE WRONGDOERS, REGARDLESS OF RACE, COLOR, ETHNICITY, RELIGIOUS BELIEFS......ETC.

SEND THEM ALL TO PRISON AND CLEANSE OUR SYSTEM.

He can't be that smart if he's aligning himself with this crowd.  His only possible excuse is that he's receiving a large honorarium and he's just there as "entertainment," not as a supporter / demagogue.

I suspect that all of the people:  Leppert, Miller, Kirk, Rawlings, Perot Jr., American Airlines, etc. all got receipts that will serve as their "get out of jail free cards."  As long as they have a documented agreement that says Ms. Nealy was supposed to perform only services that were perfectly legal, there is nothing to stop all of these folks from turning their heads the other way once the document is signed, allowing her the freedom to work her "magic" on individual voters and/or council members.

Ms. Culbreath, why does it seem that you are the only voice of reason and common sense in our community? What's  wrong with our people?  Why can't we think for ourselves? Is it that hard to do the right thing?

I agree. I just saw him on Face the Nation and I was so proud to see him on the show. He seem to fit right in and the topics were universal politics and not a "black" subject. Why in the h... would he risk this opportunity to become part of this JWP mess. By being on the show is 2 thumbs up toward progress...being involve in this mess will send him backwards. If he shows up, I will loose all respect I have for him as an intellectural.

I've read his stuff too and some of the things about Cosby are interesting but I think a lot of it comes off as whining, as if there exists a certain set of commandments for black people that Cosby is guilty of not following. Talking about culture can get to be a big mess, and he spends an inordinate amount of time picking through details that don't seems to matter while skipping over the seemingly more important ones.

Bob
Bob

Suspect? You are spot on. All of these people, including the consulting firms (e.g. Carol Reed), have receipts. Nealy? She's receipt poor.
