And So They Begin: Community and Church Leaders Plan Rallies for John Wiley Price

A Night of Prayer & Preparation Final.jpg
Looking to keep your holiday week festive?

Then look no further than tomorrow night's wingding at the Kirkwood Temple CME Church -- to our knowledge, the first real "community" event in support of embattled Dallas County Commissioner John Wiley Price, who, of course, is under FBI investigation for money laundering and other crimes. As you can see from the poster at right, it promises to be a "night of prayer and preparation" loaded with church and community leaders, not to mention judicatories.

The pastor of Kirkwood is Jerry Christian, a member of the board of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) -- and the gentleman who, till recently, was one of the two plaintiffs named in the suit trying to overthrow the November referendum making the whole city wet with beer and wine.

But this is just the warm-up: A bigger event is planned July 17 at 4:30 p.m. at St. Luke Community Methodist Church at 5710 East R.L. Thornton in East Dallas.
The church confirmed the date and time of the event this afternoon but was unable to confirm reports that the rally and march will be headed by legendary St. Luke pastor Zan Holmes, now in retirement.

Holmes has been largely absent from the local political scene since leaving St. Luke a decade ago. His retirement came some months after a story in the paper version of Unfair Park reported skepticism among law enforcement experts investigating an alleged hate crime and desecration of Holmes's church. That incident, never resolved at the time, involved some names recurring in the Price matter, including Danny Defenbaugh, now a private investigator, who was FBI special agent in charge in Dallas at the time.

Who knows? Maybe we'll finally get some answers to that one too.

We all need prayer, especially Mr. Price. I am uncertain that Mr. Price is a devout Christian but people should pray for him neverthe less.Pray with him all the way to the Federal prison where he will one day be serving a sentence longer than former mayor Pro-tem Don Hill. The only black and white issue here is did he lie,cheat,steal,etc..? The FBI must certainly think so and apparently Mike Rawlins, our new Mayor, must think so as well, since he hired Bill Hill, our former DA, to keep him in the clear. It would be laughable if it weren't so sad for Dallas taxpayers.

The Democrats 'Big Daddy Government' giveth and taketh. Personally who cares what possessions or wealth JWP has obtained. If he did indeed snooker his sheeples out of their money and they are happy dupes then so be it. However let not them complain when the Dems BDG they vote for comes knocking on the door--and with brother Barack as President no less. You get the government you vote for. So then the Dems BDG giveth and the Dems BDG taketh away too.  The Democrat Party leadership is happy to turn its back on God and His Word yet the Black sheeple voters (most who believe God) keep voting for their godless Dem leaders.  Why?  because the Dems BDG has got them addicted to the goodies and the tribe mentality of sheeples dare not vote otherwise.  Praise God in the churches but the Dems godless BDG gets worshipped at the ballot box. So whats the problem when JWP's Dem BDG is applying a little discipline---his fellow blacks voted Dem and so this is the result. I say leave JWP alone if his sheeples don't care but the Dems BDG has other ideas. Like I said, you deserve the government you vote for---you listenin' black folks still stuck on your masters the Dems?

Sdhutze---got any interns working for free? Wouldn't it be fun to look at Don Hill's campaign paperwork, Hodge's, Jenkins, JWP, Rawlngs and so on.... and see how many times the SAME rich people form North Dallas show up on it?

OMG!!!! they are soooo stupid, hear me Reverend, stupid!!! Read carefully, okay: YOU make more of this than you should, and guess what? There could very well be a change of venue in this case.... Lipscomb's trial was moved--and he was found GUILTY--forget the technicality that got it reversed. THIS TIME, they will be ready for JWP, because one thing he isn't is dumb--or careless---So far, we have NO idea what in heck they want about him. So how can you be so on the ready to do this? Sure, he's a brother, and I am a sister of another color. What EVIDENCE do you have that he is being picked on because of his race? What EVIDENCE do you have that says anything? Man, I am telling you, this is not 1977.... People do not fall for this stuff anymore.

Why not wait, calm down, take a breath and let the system work? If he is on the side of righteouseness, he will prevail....But you go right ahead and taint the jury pool, alienate the MAJORITY of this county who are NOT black--and get it moved to Lubbock or Austin, you are sealing his fate right now. Go right ahead. You will get him in the clink for that alone. Let me know when you have a rally to end teen pregnancy or dropouts.... Let me know when your rally to support teachers in DISD is, okay, Reverend? Think of it this way---future Dallas politicians will note which churches came a scurrying on this---and you know what? They may forego "introductions" and "ads in papers" and "endorsements." And then where will you all be? Anybody want to join me in a protest about ministers trying to make something out of nothing?

Are church rallies really that good at getting the FBI to quit investigating?

It's a "Night of Prayer and Preparation" to find alternate sources of income in anticipation of the decline in walking around money the preachers get each election.

Mean while a spokesman for The Almighty said:

"God is very disappointed in the behavior these ministers. It's not like he hasn't explained the rules to these people repeatedly. The spokesman quoted God as saying  "How often do I have to spell it out to these guys.  As I said in Proverbs 29:24: 'The accomplice of a thief is his own enemy; he is put under oath and dare not testify.' The spokesman warned that they really don't want to get God pissed off, and cited Don Hill, Jessica Simpson and the Pharaoh as an examples.

I wonder if they will have young men armed with roman candles ready to fight off any media that might try to cover the rally?

I would bet that with enough money one could organize rallies against JWP. It's all about money in south Dallas County.

Perhaps they can spring OJ from prison along with Don Hill to be in the parade of fools supporting Price.

I support the rally but think they need to wait to see what hes been charge with. Being a former protester with JWP, I think the Rev. Christian with Kirkwood needs to be a little more tactiful, lets not be so quick to call boycotts and rallies. Bettie C. is right about knowing what the investigation is about, at least. Lets not show what we have, until they show what they have. John Wiley Price was/is a skillful fighter and tactiful, I really don't see this shapping up right now with all these little pockets of support. V. Hall, you need to prepare a better counterattack, using some of these old warriors and supporters, that know the way this stuff should go.

Is Pastor Christian one of the ministers involved in the" Minister Outreach"  in Kathy Nealy's campaign proposal? My goodness ,how can these men claim God, and leadership when they will not even wait to know what the investigation is  about. I have never seen them hold one prayer meeting for the wrongfully imprisoned men.I have never seen a prayer meeting for victims of crime are any other quality of life issue. The print professional signs for a Man who has helped himself all these years at the expense of Taxpayers is sinful.

Dr. Christian is also listed as endorsing Mike Rawlings' price-guided campaign for Mayor. Let's find out how much Rawlings and/or Price are paying him to host this event.

The FBI should be spending their time going after the Klan in Texas

I am so going to this....

The Ku Klux Klan did the same thing here in Dallas in the 1900s. Jury pool tampering. That's all this is. Aided by elected officials, clergy and positive press, the Klan swayed juries and public opinion before "one of their own" was on trial. Same thing going on today. Pure racism. I just shake my head in utter disbelief. Same faith based meetings. Same hate speech. Same black vs white. Same. Same. Same.

I thinks that JWP has this coalition of Pastors in his pocket. Too bad the African American Community can't see through it. The FBI has to do their house cleaning for them.

I agree that pretty much anything is a good excuse for a party this time of year, but might they want to wait and see if he's actually indicted?  It is bad taste to hold the funeral before you  have a corpse.

If JWP is convicted, will that cut off all the campaign money that goes to the preachers in South Dallas?

Churches already coming out to support JWP.  Nice.  I'm going to get some bracelets made up with "HMEWJD" - How much equity would Jesus demand?

Apropos to the topic at hand?

"To develop the homes, the [African American Pastor's Coalition]--a 70-member group that represents some 40 churches--has negotiated recently to buy a 58-acre plot of land from a limited partnership managed by none other than the interests of Ross Perot Jr."

So we don't even wait for an indictment before throwing a rally anymore?

"Oh Lord, protect this man who may or may not have done some very unethical things that are still being investigated, and give a few bucks while you're here, why don't ya?"

Also...anyone else notice that the "African American Pastors Association" does not seem to exist??

There is a" Black Pastors Association", "african American Ministers association", but I cannot find anything about a "african american pastors association"

Avi tries too hard. He over reaches on the hubris and the only way the Hitler videos ever work is when the author mocks himself in the process. Maybe if he wrote in something about John Wiley's Bentley illegally parked in front of Avi's house and Hitler sent Avi a Honey Baked Ham for Christmas as an apology. Then that would be funny.

The African American Pastor's Coalition uses Alpha Business Images (ABI) for p.r.  If you troll around the interwebs-- you'll find that ABI's primary clients are:

- the City Convention Center Hotel;- DISD;- Tom Leppert's Mayoral Campaign;- DFW Airport;- Dallas Housing Authority;- Parkland Foundation;- Sen. Royce West; and.....

- PEROT SYSTEMS!

That's the Coalition of African-American Pastors, not the African-American Pastors Coalition.

The latter was apparently first mention in 1999 by the Dallas Observer:

"To develop the homes, the pastors coalition--a 70-member group that represents some 40 churches--has negotiated recently to buy a 58-acre plot of land from a limited partnership managed by none other than the interests of Ross Perot Jr."

And Willis Johnson and Ross Perot, Jr., have been two of John Wiley Price's largest official providers of campaign finance funds.  Not too surprising, I suppose (along with Craig Watkins)....

... but look at the long list of North Dallas establishment figures that have been his supporters... people like Earle Nye, Tom Dunning, etc., etc.

'kinda interesting. The same names just keep coming up.
