Now, Bike Friendly Dallas. And: Sunday Ride From Main Street Garden to a Better Ross Ave.

Here at day's end, a Friend of Unfair Park directs our attention to the just-and-I-mean-just-launched Bike Friendly Dallas, which, from the looks of it, is intended to serve as a sort of round-up for news, notes and two-wheeled events 'round town -- not just in Oak Cliff, where BFOC's long been a big player, but all over. Not coincidentally, this is where I discovered there's a first-ever Dallas Cycle Sunday planned for this weekend, with a 10:30 a.m. meet-up scheduled at Main Street Garden that'll pedal down the Better Boulevard and, just maybe, off to White Rock Lake for the big beach-party blowout that wraps the Centennial Celebration.

From the looks of it, the larger point of the site is to ensure the recently passed Dallas Bike Plan doesn't become another dusty doc at City Hall. To that end you're directed to the also-just-launched Interactive 2011 Dallas Bike Plan Map, which, says the site, will allow you to "see what bike infrastructure is actually being created in real time." Since it's hot-n-fresh, there's nothing there -- and may not be for a while. As in: "Over the next several years, we will hopefully see the progress that is being made throughout the entire system!" Fingers crossed; toes too.

I find it slightly odd that they are depending on citizens to maintain this map.  Shouldn't the city have an official list of bike project status?

@openid-20058:disqus BF Dallas took it upon itself to create this map as a way for any citizen to post to it, so we have a double check from what the city will be doing.  Word from Max Kalhamer, Dallas' bike coordinator, he's been waiting to get the "keys" to the Bike Plan website to update it.  If you check it out, it's hosted by the consulting firm, Tool Design, who facilitated the bike plan.  We're working with him to make sure we have the best information.  The city needs it's citizen involvement in order to make sure we get this right.

I'm looking forward to the whole Better Block thing coming to Ross.  Should be a cool deal.

Thanks for the post about BF Dallas!  Actually, there is one bike lane under contruction as we speak along Bishop Ave from Davis to Colorado in Oak Cliff.  It's on the map.
