Dickey's So Angry About Redistricting Map She Wants Texas Attorney General, DOJ to Intervene

No doubt you recall Dallas County Commissioner Maurine Dickey's blow-up over that redistricting map sprung on her during commissioners court a couple of weeks back. Long story short: She'd agreed to one map, only to have John Wiley Price give her, at the last second, an entirely different one that gave her current district to Mike Cantrell and vice-versa. And, sure, Dickey's not running for re-election next go-round, opting to head back into the barbecue biz. But she's still plenty fired up over the switcheroo, going so far as to demand Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and the U.S. Department of Justice review the new map to see if it violates the law.

"The new map was approved by the Dallas County Commissioners without the benefit of public review or comment as required," Dickey says in a statement just dispatched by her office. "I ask that the Attorney General's office and the Department of Justice rule the new district map invalid and restore the original redrawn district map that was presented to the public for comment. The court failed to give the public proper notice which has resulted in what is, at a minimum, a disenfranchisement of thousands of voters."

On the other side is her missive to Abbott, which she sent Friday. In it Dickey writes:
"In addition to switching Cantrell to what is planned to be the stronger Republican district, it will also cause the new, weaker Republican District 1 to be up for election as an open seat in 2012 when President Obama is campaigning. No doubt, the Democrat Commissioners expect this fact to help secure a victory for the Democrat nominee."

This is the result of Jim Foster and Maurine Dickey who have trumped up retaliation charges of improprieties; fraud, kickbacks, etc. Any Individual knows that within twenty six years of governing in Dallas County JWP if guilty of kickbacks ...and other illegal acts would have been brought down by the F.B.I. by now especially with the negative sentiments of white folks who detest his actions on the Court and the power he welds in this city. This writer believes Mr. Price would have been gone years ago if he was dirty. Jim Foster and Maureen Dickey and Kenneth Mayfield hate Mr. Price with a passion so great that to trump up false allegations to shame him would morally justify public humiliation in their eyes. This is the smoking gun the FBI also would play off at the expense of getting Mr. Price out of office. Nevertheless, if this backfires without any charges filed, or without a guilty verdict this will make Dallas look extremely bad, and the FBI knows this, and they do not want allegations to surface that they played the race card and went under handily at Mr. Price to appease the white folks of Dallas County due to the power Mr. Price is seen to weld. In addition the Federal prosecutors are aware of this also and will play within the realm of the law to try and garner a conviction to justify the investigation and get Mr. Price out of Office. This is why the FBI is going to thoroughly and meticulously examine all his personals documents and files in an attempt to find any small thing what will make a case, and get a jury to convict, in the eyes of the Government they want to bring him down and publicly humiliate Mr. Price.Never in Dallas County has a Black Man welded so much power over white folks, and they fear this Black Man that they perceive has so much power. The latest outburst has nothing to do with this investigation, don't be bamboozled, this was planned and orchestrated by Maureen Dickey, Jim Foster and Kenneth Mayfield and, until this is resolved white folks are going to print negative propaganda simply to mislead other white folks and naysayers to believe the hype in hopes of generating a perception that Mr. Price is dirty, and was playing dirty behind the scenes. Just let it play out, because this has the potential to blow up if it’s played out wrong and the FBI does not make a charge stick, keep in mind they are going to invest all their manpower to bring down this Black Man, to give the white folks of Dallas County a moral victory.

Ana, do you really not have anything professional to critic regarding the issues of Dallas that all you can criticize about is how she looks like?  I wonder how you look like?

The party in power ALWAYS screws the party out of power at redistricting time. Its the American way.

Does Comm. Dickey also want the DOJ to revise the decidedly-partisan maps for the Texas House, Texas Senate and Texas Congressional districts, or are those okay because they were gerrymandered to help Republicans?

Price and the Democrat machine style politics are disenfranchising all of North Dallas, and Mike Cantrell is complicit in that.  He has abandoned his integrity to keep his office and that fact will not be forgotten.Thank you Comm.  Dickey for standing up for honest, open government.  It is entirely to her credit that she is doing so despite the fact she is retiring from office and isn't protecting her own interest but is doing so on behalf of the citizens she represents.  A sharp contrast in character when compared with the rest of the Dallas County Commissioners.

I'm not sure why it's worse when Democrats do it. North Dallas has been disenfranchising South Dallas for, well, forever.

Really? How has North Dallas disenfranchised South Dallas?

South Dallas residents have the right to vote.  And look who they elect. South Dallas has serious problems, but that's not because of people in North Dallas.

Passive whining will not help the people in South Dallas.  THEY must rise up and fight back and take control of their own lives.  If laws screw them, THEY must change the laws.  None of us, no matter how much we want to, can ultimately help them.

My children live in North Dallas.  They aren't disenfranchising anyone.

Seems like corruption has flowed down hill from the DISD to city hall and now to the county   What a pile-they all need to be in jail..

Indeed she is one of the few that seems to have her head on.  Carla Ranger in the DISD is another.   There are too few.

Maurine, I asked for two sides of potato salad, not for a side of baked beans!

While Ms. Dickey has a valid complaint, reverting to the first map would only mean that the republican members will lose every vote 3-2, instead of 4-1 under the JWPrice sneak-and-peak map.

He was part of the behind the scenes moves that screwed Dickey. In his defense, Dickey was trying to throw him under the bus too!

Way to go Com. Dickey!  Thank you for taking a stand and speaking up for the voters in your district.  We have no voice other than yours since we cannot speak against any decisions made by the commissioners.  Chicago style politics!

This whole redistricting bullshit is like some relic of a bygone era. No one uses it to fairly proportion districts (if they ever did), its just a blatant gerrymandering tool. Why do we still do this shit?
