Celebrate 75th Anniversary of Centennnial Expo With Footage From 1961 State Fair of Texas

From the extremely loud to the completely silent ...

Yesterday was a momentous anniversary that passed without any notice whatsoever: It was the 75th anniversary of the opening of the Texas Centennial Exposition at Fair Park. Coincidentally, though, one YouTuber marked the occasion by posting some Brownie 8mm footage of the '61 State Fair of Texas taken by his father. Not nearly as sexy as that estimable stack of '77 photographic flashbacks, but, lookie there, the monorail in action. Jump, but mind the organ grinder.

If you search the internet you can find plenty of pictures of the Monorail. It was first built in Houston then moved to the state fair.

The only thing that I can come up with that associates The State Fair of Texas with "sexy" is "something fried". And, if it's on film, yikes. Hide that sandwich porn.

Speaking of showing my age I remember that monorail. But just barely!

What a shame that nobody took the initiative (Friends of Fair Park?) to put something together for this, considering how important the Centennial Exposition was to Dallas.

RWyou are too cool for school. I should send you a home movie of Storybook Land which predated not only yourself but Six Flags as well. Located in Irving off of 183 at "Story" exit I believe. That was THE destination for families back then.

And Cowboy Town was next door to Storybook Land. I only remember riding in a car and seeing the ruins of both parks from the road.

I totally want to see that.  I went to Crocket Jr. High at the same intersection in the late 70's.  I'm guessing it must of been on the north side of 183, where I once used to practice soccer.  I think there's a 24-hour Fitness on the spot now.
