While City Holds Our Trinity Docs Hostage, a Look at How Much Dallas Wants From Feds

City Officials With Eddie Bernice Johnson.jpg

You really think Mary Suhm could have gotten a much better seat at the meeting with EBJ.
Earlier this month, city officials -- among them For-Now Mayor Dwaine Caraway, City Manager Mary Suhm, about-to-be-out Trinity River Corridor Project Committee chair Dave Neumann and others -- schlepped to D.C. to beg for more money for the Trinity River Corridor Project. Specifically, the city wants federal earmarks for three components: the Dallas Floodway Study, the Dallas Floodway Extension and S.M. Wright Freeway. How much does Dallas need? Close to $100 million total, as you'll see in the nice pamphlet prepared for the visit, which follows.

Who knows how long it'll take before we get our hands on those Trinity Project expenditures the Texas Attorney General said we could have till the city filed suit to stop their release. We're workin' on it. But there is this from the wish list's intro:
Since 1998, the citizens of Dallas have approved over $500 million in local funding for the Trinity River Corridor Project. The Trinity Project has been a partnership effort between the City, the County, the State and the Federal government, and there is an expectation that each partner agency will bring the necessary resources to the table to complete the Project. To date, the Project has received over $212 million in federal funds. This is a result of the unwavering support of the Dallas area Congressional delegation. However, as some components of the Project are not considered "budgetable" by federal bureaucratic standards, the Project has had to rely on Congressional earmarks for much of the secured funding to date.
Johnson, of course, is all about the Trinity project. After Caraway, Suhm and and the gang paid her a visit, she issued this statement:
"It was great to see so many friends and partners in my office today to talk about the City of Dallas and the great projects they are working on. The Trinity River Corridor Project is one of my highest priorities in Congress and I'm grateful for City Officials who are also dedicated to completing the project."
She could always just give it a scholarship. Dallas Trinity Earmark Wishlist

I sure would rather have my Federal Tax dollars coming back here to help build a better city than going overseas in the form of another bomb or unwanted war. So PLEASE, bring the on the earmarks and bring our tax dollars back here to Dallas!

Tax dollars need to be going to pay down the country's debt. If we don't it isn't going to matter what type of bridge, park, or stadium we build, because the dollar won't be worth shit!

So after the federal government denies Texas emergency funding after wildfires burn half the state, these folks think Dallas deserves $100 million in earmarks for.... what exactly?

Dallas citizens voted overwhelming for the Trinity River Project and I applaud our City officials    and Congresswoman Johnson for continuing to work to move this project and this city forward.Where would Dallas be if we had all thrown in the towel on DFW airport when naysayers said it couldn't be done?

Overwhelming?  Where have you been.  It was less than 2000 votes in the 1998 election.  The opposition won the early vote but the powers that be bought enough votes in S. Dallas to win by about a percent.

The second vote a couple of years ago was also about that close.  And if Leppert and the DMN hadn't absolutely lied, it would have gone down to defeat.  The DMN waited to print the damning article till the day after the vote.

Oh the big bad Dallas Morning News and Darth Leppert had nothing to do with Voters choosing to support the Trinity and your assertion that votes were bought in South Dallas is just ignorant. So stop your bellyaching and sit back and enjoy the progress, in fact kayaking and canoeing trails are already complete, just dive in!

Raleigh -- well I was involved in the opposition to the 1998 bond -- and I can assure you they were bought -- I watched it.  How little you know.   And where I come from -- a percent is certainly not overwhelming.  Check the totals.

Can we have the people at City Hall steal the Federal money instead of the bond money?

The hubris' of the folks who are running this City is astounding. This country hit it's debt ceiling on May 16th. This City is wanting $100 million. The fall is taking place as we speak.

"However, as some components of the Project are not considered "budgetable" by FEDERAL BUREAUCRATIC STANDARDS (emphasis added), the Project has had to rely on Congressional earmarks for much of the secured funding to date."

Is it really wise for them to be implying that the federal budgeting process is just a bunch of B.S. and they know much better?  I mean, I know they are used to belittling and talking down to constituents, but in this case, the power dynamic is much different.  I would suspect that language would rub a lot of potential Congressional supporters the wrong way.

Also, should they be using the word "earmarks," when that word is basically considered box office poison right now?

These folks exhibit a rare combination of arrogance and stupidity. Dave Neumann has already suffered the consequences, I suspect most of the rest ultimately will, as well.

The pamphlet title "Watch Our Progress" is just laughable. It's been nearly 13 years since the 1998 Bond Referendum, and after spending well over $250 Million, what kind of progress can be shown?

I'm sure the Feds will agree that Dallas DESERVES the $100 Million. After all, they have been such good custodians of all the money spent so far!

And, I'm sure EBJ has alot of clout on Capitol Hill, especially after the scholarship debacle.

EBJ, like the joker, is a crown prince(cess) of crime. She and her cadre of morons and ner-do-wells surrounding her show that the crowd your run with reflects the type of person you are.

When it comes to this "hush hush" trinity plan, I predict a similar outcome to the Caraway incident, which is to say Dallas will be embarrassed in court again for their stupidity..

Actually the person with the best seat, the only one who gets to flap her arm down on the member's desk, is Mary McDermott Cook,http://www.facebook.com/people...the heiress who has put a lot of money into naming rights for the bridges and who seems to be sort of in charge of the Trinity River Project, although I can't really remember when she got elected.

Trinity docs, and Ethics votes doc, I want to see who has done what, although I bet my guesses would be accurate. Why doesn't the DO file an FOI?

We have. The AG said to turn 'em over. The city doesn't want to, which is why it filed suit in Austin to stop their release.
