Tom Leppert Responds (Sorta) to Mike Rawlings's Response to Ron Natinsky. Got That?

Really, it'll be like the day after Christmas when this mayoral campaign ends -- that sad, empty what-now. Who knew this morning's email from Dallas mayoral candidate Ron Natinsky would provide a small handful of highlights from an otherwise ho-hum campaign season.

There was, of course, the initial email itself, in which Natinsky said Mike Rawlings was going to turn Dallas into Detroit. (Oh, Schutze ...?) Then came Rawlings's response, in which he called Natinsky's email nothing more than a "smokescreen" meant to district from the whole ethics ordinance undoing at City Hall.

Then, shortly after that, I got another email from Natinsky's campaign, which said former Dallas mayor-turned-candidate for U.S. Senate Tom Leppert had a few words in response to Rawlings's response. Which was necessary, of course, because Rawlings said he didn't do nothing Tom Leppert hadn't already done when he secured the endorsements of the Service Employees International Union and Workers United.

So, then, this just in -- not from Leppert himself, but from Shawn McCoy, the communications director for Leppert's campaign and the man who writes many of the tone poems that make their way to Leppert's Twitter account.
"Tom does not support subjecting all workers to collective bargaining. He believes workers have a right to join a union if they choose, but more importantly, Tom has actively campaigned for workers' essential right to choose not join a union if they don't want to by expanding Right to Work."
Anyone else got a response to the response to the response? Bring it.

Glad Tom set the record straight.

If Tom endorsed SEIU or asked for an endorsement - post that.

I want to see more than a newsletter picture showing that he one time shook hands with a Dallas employee though.

So Carol Reed sends out a target to Rawlings on behalf of Natinsky then sends on out a unwarranted response to Rawlings on behalf of Leppert. Boy she is getting it in today...

Why is it, whenever a post shows up in which Jim might take an interest, I picture Robert as Charles Durning' Col. Erhardt in "To Be or Not To Be" screaming for him?

"SCHUUUUUUUUTZE!"

From a twatter: that response is way longer than 140 characters

Can't Leppert issue a blanket response to anything concerning his past that would work for every scenario? Maybe something along the lines of...

"when I campaigned for mayor I was able to pander to any and all under the auspices that it was a non-partisan office; now that I am whoring for a shot at a very partisan office I have to disavow any previous pandering to homos, mexicans and unions and I reserve the right to back pedal, deny and reinterpret anything I have said in the past as the need arises."

Nothing in that sentence that Rawlings supposedly endorsed says anything about subjecting all workers to collective bargaining.

(On a side note, it's not like you can take anything Leppert 2.0 says about what Leppert 1.0 did or didn't believe as truth. Leppert 2.0 frequently disagrees with the positions and actions that Leppert 1.0 took. I assume this is because Leppert 1.0 was replaced by his Clonus double at some point soon before his resignation as Dallas Mayor).

I agree with Leppert's stance. He's letting the free market work the way it should by supporting right to work, and supporting workers by fostering the best economic conditions. The whole back and forth over this doesn't make a lot of sense because it's not like Leppert went out and endorsed the unions, it happened the other way around. Seems strange for him to have to defend himself for being an intelligent economic leader.

Fabulous political writing; much better than "the secretary will disavow any knowledge of my actions"! Isn't it interesting, by the way, that Leppert hasn't endorsed Natinsky? Bet that surprised Ron. Come to think of it, Angela Hunt never made an endorsement either, did she?

Since when does Tom "Let's Build a Hotel with Taxpayer Money!" Leppert care about the free market?

If Hunt does make an endorsement I'd be surprised if she endorsed anyone other than Kunkle (unless it were to be Okpa purely for shits and giggles). She and Kunkle seem to work the same brand of cops and potholes populism .
