"Concerned About Our Republic For Years Now," Janine Turner Lands KLIF Talk Show

Categories: Media

Since Janine Turner didn't get that spot on the next-gen Dallas reboot for TNT, she's turned her attention elsewhere -- late-night weekend AM radio. Had no idea. But, sure enough: The former Northern Exposure star with the ranch outside of town launched her right-wing radio hour last Saturday from none other than Unfair Park cross-the-street neighbor KLIF; her guests were Karl Rove, Andrew Breitbart and none other than Liberty Institute's own Shackelford, speaking of.

Turner's long been doing a podcast, but Cumulus officials approached her about moving it left of the dial, as it were. So why come the new venue? She writes:
I decided to start my own radio show podcast because I love to learn and I feel passionate about our country, America, which truly is the last great hope. I also started my own radio show because I feel as if I need to be doing something to try to "sound the alarm," as Publius states in the Federalist Papers. Here I can express my opinion. So many of our nation's youth and citizens are "default liberals," to quote Andrew Breitbart, because they simply have no other realm of reasoning. Our culture currently limits choices, in the press, academia, movies and music. I, a person who has been a part of the show biz culture, feel a need to address this bias.
I only found out about it because of the press release we just received about this weekend's special guest: Rob Morrow, her Northern Exposure co-star. Which prompts this quip from Turner: "I've gone from Northern Exposure to American exposure, casting a spotlight on the issues that are important to America's future." Looking forward to an appearance from Christopher McDonald, her Leave it to Beaver co-star.

Totally love Janine Turner!  Northern Exposure was the best show ever and I will definately tune in to hear her reunion with Dr. Joel...

Ive seen janine on some of the cable news shows and she is one bright, informed, opinionated and friendly lady.

(and by the way Im no conservative-but she's respectful of others opinions and deserves the same respect back for her own)

Texans should be very proud to call her one of their own

Hope you are getting paid to be a shill. Otherwise it is a pathetic attempt to prop up yet another rightwing blowhard.

Spoken like a true and altogether mature liberal. Give yourself a big round of applause.

you know it kills me that dolts like you on the net think that anyone who dares to disagree with just MUST BE paid to post comments on blogs.

you kos educated twits actually think these comment sections at blogs have an impact.

understand this fella from someone who has worked in dem politics for decades...

they do not.

you are just as inconsequential a influence as you fear you are.

Sigh. I loved Northern Exposure and I think Janine is/was a great actor. Unfortunately I don't share her hate of personal liberty so I probably won't be listening to this. And Andrew Breitbart is an unfunny dork with super lame arguments.

I love this country!  We get 24-hr, wall to wall coverage of agenda-driven media, in all it's various forms.  Libs slam us from the left, Cons (how appropo) slam us from the right.  The only thing we're missing is actual facts and news, but who needs that?  We've got a death-inviting Standing Wave!

scottindallas

Where's this liberal slam?  Where are the liberal voices?  I've argued that high tax rates are good for the economy, that it drives investment and hiring.  I know this as a small businessman of over 25 yrs.  Why am I basically the only one saying this?  Where's your liberal media?  There's a few Democratic apologist, but few liberals in the media.  When's the last time you saw Nader or Chomsky on TV?

RTGolden
RTGolden

Arguing for high tax rates doesn't make you a liberal, it makes you a moderate with a carefully considered view of one issue.  I don't know your views on other planks in political arena. What I mean by 'slams' from left and right is that there are no intelligent, considered discussions on any issue, be it taxes, the environment, personal freedom, sovereign citizenship, etc, etc.  All you get is Fox and cronies spewing ultra right wing BS at you from one side, and the other networks spewing the far left at you.  What there isn't, is a moderate influence pulling the edges toward the center, which is what is needed.I, by the way, agree that taxes need to be raised.  On the rich, sure, but also on the rest of the country.  We cannot continue to wholly support a growing percentage of the population from the proceeds of a diminishing segment.  I would say, eliminate tax breaks, for everyone, including corporations (persons in the eyes of the law).  It would reduce the confusion with taxes and then we could even eliminate the need for a huge, private corporation that is invasive and abusive with powers only the government should have (IRS).

"Liberal" as it is now defined does indeed refer to "a moderate with a carefully considered point of view". That's how screwed up the whole thing is. The 60s liberal today is considered a commie. The moderate of yesterday is without a home.

Hopefully she casts a spotlight on her Beaver, that would be more important for America's future than her opinion.

Sure, why not? If Chris Krok can have a 2 hour whining session why not Ms. Turner?

Obligatory next thing is:   she has to write a book about how liberals kept her show from being renewed,  just when she demanded a show about prayer in school she got canned.   Betcha $100,  in the next year.

Anybody who claims to have a working familiarity with the Federalist Papers,   Publius  (Jay, Hamilton,  Monroe wrote them under that pen name)  certainly knows there is no need to 'sound the alarm' over anything,  other than she's out of work,  and WalMart won't hire anybody her age as a greeter.

Does that kind of insult make you feel better about yourself?

I'm glad she clarified which country she lives in in her statement.

Anything, I think anything would be better than what's on KLIF now.  I doubt I will listenmuch anyway as the only decent radio in DFW that I can find is sports related or music.

You should give Ed Wallace a shot on KLIF on Saturday mornings from 8-1pm.  He is balanced, fair and follows the facts.  He loves to expose the sophistry of both parties, insisting that if you can tell the difference between the two parties, you're willfully ignorant.

She's checked off Step Number One for a right-wing pundit by explaining how right-wingers are pathetic victims of the lib'rul conspiracy.

I spent over a year working for Hillary Clintons Presidential campaign...if you dont think that the mainstream media is is biased and slants the news in the direction that it WANTS to take it ...youre not paying attention or simply dont get how all this works...

To hear the arguments of the other side and thus have a completely informed opinion.

There is nothing that the three of them have to offer that would result in anything like an informed opinion, all three of them are chronic liars that thrive on intentionality spreading false information to further their own agenda.

Herman, Liberal talk was tried and tried and tried.  People apparently don't find it intersting.  It's failed again and again.  THAT IS WHY there isn't much "liberal talk radio."

Montemalone

A liberal mind is an enlightened mind, accustomed to seeking out knowledge and thinking things through. A liberal mind is better occupied with things other than sitting by the radio. It's the deranged wingnut mind that needs to be told what to think and who to hate and why.

She's doing what all right wing radio pundits have done...after you've failed at everything else, like an acting carreer... Northern Exposure was how long ago?..you become a right wing nutjob radio host.  It can be quite lucrative, especially when you have an audience that asks no questions nor take you to task for anything you say. Unfortunately for Turner, she's about as  interesting as an ice cube. Fail.

What this country needs now is a right-wing radio show hosted by an actress from a semi-popular TV show from twenty years ago. Sound the alarm!

Imnot Tim

what this country needs is an outlet for angry, snide, pretentious losers to put down and insult others in order to justify their inability to accept their own pathetic insignificance...

If I could pick only one thing that I find wrong with this, it would be:

'Our culture currently limits choices, in the press, academia, movies and music"

In what way, exactly?

Um, what?  None of that made any sense at all.  What censorship project?  Does it have something to do with christian groups trying to ban library books?

And, I must ask, what does GE have to do with anything?  Are we talking about tax policy now?

Imnot:

Again, what?  I'm pretty familiar with how "goodgle" works, thanks.  What, exactly, are you telling me (and by extension everyone else) to look up?  Please also keep in mind that 90% of what you read on the Internet, regardless of its source, is complete bolsh.  Getting your facts from the Internet, MSNBC, Fox News, or any other news aggregator is an exercise in futility.

My sister works at this clothes retailer that she sometimes frequents and one day she brought her one of her "Christian Yoga" dvds. Thought it was pretty funny. I like how you can take basically anything, throw the Christian label on it, and BAM! instant paying audience. I'm sure her show will be ahoot!

I am overt and honest in my disdain and dislike for xtians, religion in general, and the constant presence thereof in my daily life. Religion, and xtians in particular, have caused more war and pain and suffering on the Earth in the name of god and all that's holy and we would all be a helluva lot better off if none of it ever existed.
