Ann Margolin Endorses Mike Rawlings

Categories: Campaign News

Only a handful of city council members have so far stayed away from offering their endorsements in the mayor's race, among them Angela Hunt and Ann Margolin. But that changes today: Mike Rawlings's camp sends word that the District 13 (meaning, Rawlings's) rep has thrown her support behind the former Pizza Hut boss and current Legends Hospitality CEO, whose concessions company is being sued by three Yankees Stadium servers over pocketed tips.

Says Margolin in a statement shipped by Allyn Media, "Like me, Mike is committed to making our neighborhoods stronger and safer, and he understands that a strong economy is key to making that happen. Economic growth will allow us to protect and build upon our basics, support police and safety funding and provide the real opportunities that our families and communities need to thrive."

I've left a message for Margolin, whose predecessor, Mitchell Rasansky, has thrown his support behind David Kunkle.

As for Hunt ...

"I haven't endorsed anyone yet," she tells Unfair Park this afternoon. And that doesn't mean she will before the June 18 runoff.

Update: I spoke with Margolin, who doesn't want to say much beyond what's in her statement -- which, she explains, she wrote herself. So that's that.

This is very disappointing. This is turning your back on the one that brought you. It is your endorsement to provide, I hope it works for you.

Must be hard to be a Kunkle supporter and see your campaign going down in flames...

What a pity! When she first came to sit on the City Council after Mitch Rasansky left, she was like a breath of fresh air. Now, in a short few years, it is obvious that she has become a part of the "system", and no longer a strong independent thinker. Oh, and she is the "chair" of the ad hoc ethics committee. Any guesses on how that will turn out?

Ms. Margolin - In my opinion, you are a sell-out and have sold your soul to the Dallas Citizens Council (DCC). Now, you have pledged to sell taxpayers down the river to enrich the wealthy families in the Park Cities that make up the DCC. You came in with the best of intentions and now you govern with personal growth/agenda/motives in mind. Congrats - you have become a true politician!!!

When you say you won't talk beyound your written statement, what you are really saying is, I did not write that statement, I don't know what's in it, and I was forced to write it because Rawlings is a big big bully.

Is she mad at Kunkle because she's the only woman in Dallas he hasn't asked to marry him?

Rawlings is the same crowd, same campaign message that Ann had to fight to win her first time, but now she kicks her former supporters in the face to hitch her wagon to her neighbor's mule.  She would not have beat Brent Ryan's millions without Mitch Rasansky, Donna Blumer, et al, and they are supporting Kunkle.  Guess she thinks she's bullet proof.  Dist 13 has always had councilmembers with high ethics and personal integrity, but apparently that's no longer the case.  Go get 'em, Chief Kunkle - we know you would not stab your friends in the back after they are no longer useful to you.

And Rawlings takes another blow.  Score one for the Kunkle camp.

Must be hard to be a city hall insider and see the worst days of City Hall's entire existence coming!!!

The only person who would say that is someone who has seen the latest poll numbers. Mail blitz next week = Mike Rawlings from Boston is scared of losing.

Just because Margolin isn't endorsing your precious Kunkle, suddenly you rip her apart and sling mud.

Ann Margolin has been an absolutely fabulous councilwoman for my district.

Exactly how is it "obvious that she has become a part of the "system", and no longer a strong independent thinker"?  Because Sharon Boyd has turned on her?

On exactly what part of her record do you base your conclusion?  If you look at her performance at council meetings, if you listen to the questions that she asks, and the votes that she casts, you cannot honestly say that she is not a strong, independent thinker.

And, since we have a mayor-councilmember system of city government here, every person who is elected to the Dallas City Council is, by definition, part of the "system."  That is how our government is organized under law, and she is part of it.

Actually, she likes the fact the Mike Rawlings likes to play "hide the salami." So tell me, Irony. Did Mike tell you how his first marriage ended before you people signed the contract?

Ann Margolin is Councilwoman in her right.  She does not have to dance in the shadow of her predecessors.  I commend her for endorsing Rawlings.  Rawlings has the correct background and experience to serve as Mayor.

Whereas, David Kunkle is ill suited as Mayor.  His campaign platform reads as though he is running for City council, not Mayor.  All of the issues he is addressing are the issues that are handled by each of the councilmembers for their district.

Mayor job description is very different than councilmember.

You must be kidding, right?  Kunkle would've given anything to have scored Ann Margolin's endorsement.  That district has the highest voting numbers.

Ann did the right thing.  And, in case you haven't checked the voting numbers in her area--they heavily voted for Rawlings.

How is Ann Margolin's endorsement of Mike Rawlings "another blow"?  Looks like a loss for Kunkle, considering Margolin's standing in her high-voting district.

Scared of losing? Oh, Maria, is that why you point out where you think Mike Rawlings is from?  OOOOOOH, he's from Boston.  A Yankee. He's not from here.  How could he be a good mayor if he's not from here?

Let me clue you in, Maria:  Most of the folks who live in Dallas and vote in Dallas are "not from here."  That doesn't make them worse, or better.  Just "not from here."  That's all.

But you don't live in our district.

My biggest fear is that Mike Rawlings is not from Texas, much less Texas, and he wants to use the mayor's office to boost his chances of running for higher office ala Leppert. Lord knows he'll drive up debt like Leppert, too.

Correct background?  Another lawsuit where Rawlings is part of short-sheeting the little guy?   There's a reason Jerry Jones has given Rawlings a lot of money.  As for Kunkle addressing neighborhood issues, you must live outside the city limits or in Preston Hollow with Ann & Rawlings if you think showing concern for neighborhoods is a bad thing.

I'm in her district, and her standing isn't what you think it is.  See Sharon's comment below; dead on.

Way to deviate from the truth by throwing out you fortune teller opinion but facts are facts.  Rawlings was born in the Panhandle of Texas and went to Boston College on a football scholarship... Is there anything wrong with going to a school that will pay for your tuition???  So I guess if Mike Moncrief came to Dallas this year after leaving ft worth and said I want to be your next Mayor, you know I'm from here... Would that have been true.  It's the DFW by your poor standards...  And again Sharon Boyd is the one that said "here" not me.  I'm just trying to get a understanding of what "here" means...  But thanks for your crystal ball.

Hah, what a stretch, Oak Cliff Res.

Kunkle has lived his whole life in Texas and DFW. Carpetbagger Mike is from the East Coast and talks like a goodfella. Rawlings will sell N. Dallas up a (Trinity) river when he sells us on big construction and real estate projects, then he'll helps "hide the salami" when it's time to count the losses.

Oak Cliff Res
Oak Cliff Res

@ Sharon Boyd.  I guess by "here" you are extending the City of Dallas into Tarrant County because by "here" being the City of Dallas - Kunkle is not from "here" either, he is from Arlington.  And by "here" if you mean by who has lived in Dallas longer then Rawlings wins by living "here" by a long shot compared to Kunkle who moved "here" in 2004 because of an appointed job and Rawlings moved "here" in the 1970's looking for a job...

The people who are not from here always want to turn Dallas into the place they chose to leave.  They don't really like Dallas, and see us as easy pickings.  Electing Rawlings will prove they are right.  I know so many people who have taken losses on their homes to get out of Dallas already.  David Kunkle wants to make this city a place where people want to live.  Kunkle will do to Dallas homeowners what his company, Legends, is doing to it's employees -- robbing them blind.

Good Lord--when you stoop to quoting Sharon Boyd on anything political, you expose the paucity of your argument on its face.  Sharon Boyd is not dead on--Sharon Boyd is just dead end.
