Leppert's Got $2.7 Mil to Run For Senate

Below, in the comments, one Arthur Smythe -- who, as everybody knows, hates the Cowboys -- was quick to point out that Not Mayor Tom Leppert has raised $1.1 million in his bid for the United States Senate. Arthur's comment, which I imagine was made in an English accent by a man wearing a monocle and top hat, came a few hours before Not Mayor Tom's campaign sent its press release announcing the amount he's raised so far -- $1.1 million.

The release also notes how much of his own money Leppert has put into the campaign thus far: $1.6 million. Who does Leppert list among his donors besides himself? Dunno. Campaign finance reports aren't due till April 15. No doubt, however, it will include Conn Smythe, Alistair Smythe, Tim Smythe and the rest of the Smythe clan.

Says Leppert in the press release, "Thank you to all the supporters who have invested in my campaign to elect a real Texas conservative to the U.S. Senate. I announced my candidacy just over one month ago, and I am gratified by the support I've already received. As I've talked to Texans, small businessmen and women, and the Republican grassroots, it's been clear they're looking to elect a real Texas conservative to the U.S. Senate who understands how to tackle the fiscal and economic issues facing our nation. We've got great momentum behind our campaign, and I'm looking forward to continuing to grow our support across Texas."

He's also super proud of the Lady Aggies!

Ha!

Robert, I appreciate the amusing entry. I was hardly breaking news when I made that comment, most of the news outlets were already reporting the fundraising numbers for Leppert.

Oh, and all joking aside, I can take a lot of wit...but I love my Cowboys...that's just low to say otherwise! :)

Leppert is referring to himself as "a real Texan conservative"....Funny, I thought he only just moved to Texas about 5 or 6 yrs ago. From New York City!

If $2.7 mil, why not $280? People would be much happier.

Real Texas Conservative?....B.S.More like a Real Texas Dumbbutt. No Real Texas Conservative would want to do anything but Sell The Hotel and toss in a toll road between two levees as a sweetener. I expect him and his big old bag of money won't even make the Republican runoff because he will probably quit before the GOP primary election day telling us he accomplished what he set out to do. Two and a half mil won't even get you a seat at the table for this race.

Leppert thanks " all the supporters who have invested in my campaign . . . ." What kind of rate of return, or profit, or dividend do all those investors, er, supporters, expect for their investment?

Is Leppert, like Blockbuster, for sale to the highest bidder?

At least at Blockbuster, if you don't like the film, you can return it. Ever tried returning John Cornyn, or Rick Perry?

So what? Are you going to do the same thing with Hunt's bid for reelection? Doubt it.

What he needs now is a slogan - one that repeatedly mentions how he's a real Texas something.

Let's hope Not Mayor Leppert can do as well for his campaign investors as he did for Washington Mutual investors when he was a director.

You're comparing Leppert's run for U.S. Senate with the reelection bid of a three-term city council member? Hardly the same. And Robert's right. I love me some campaign finance reports. I'll be looking closely at Hunt's and everyone else's on April 14.

When campaign finance reports are filed, absolutely we'll post something. We always do. Sam anxiously awaits their arrival in the City Secretary's Office.

Do let us know if Arthur and Archie show up as donors on any city campaign finance reports.

If Senate hopeful Daddy Warbucks Dewhurst is tied up with state business on April 15th, when do you expect that he will start to "officially" raise money for the Senate race? Since he can just write a really, really big check (the kind that Leppert can't) when it is most convenient for him to trump the Not Mayor? Are any of the other contenders able to raise big bucks besides these two?
