Forthcoming at some point this morning, a second slide show's worth of photos from the festivities on Greenville Avenue Saturday. (Update: Check out Sam's choice pics, including one of an arrest.) Till then, here's the first 40. And Nick also shot some video that's available on the other side, for those able to open at least one eye. But late yesterday, DPD spokesman Senior Corporal Kevin Janse sent these Official Stats (which have been updated following the jump):
Parade/Concert Numbers:
  • The rough estimate of crown is that 100,000 people were along the parade route
  • Three public intoxication arrests at parade; one at concert
  • One mental health arrest
  • Four injuries, all alcohol-related
  • No reported consumption citations
  • Concert crowd was estimated at 5,500 with no arrests
  • One-hundred thirty-two parking citations

Party Numbers:
  • Crowd approximately 12,000 at 5:30 p.m.
  • Twenty-nine calls to DPD
  • Six arrested for public intoxication
  • Two arrested for driving while intoxicated
  • Twenty-one consumption citations
  • Two city arrests
  • One regulatory citation
  • Two-hundred and seven parking citations
  • Forty-one vehicles towed
Saturday night, Janse followed up with a note about an unlikely shooting on Lower Greenville, in the 5600 block of Mercedes: "Officers responded to a call about a male shooting another male several times with a BB gun. One pellet may have hit the victim in the head somewhere." The dude who did the shooting ran into his house, at which point SWAT was called out. Angela Hunt would later report: "Shooter has been arrested."

Update 2: Janse just sent us the final party numbers.
  • Crowd approximately 12,000 now
  • Thirty-three calls
  • Ten public intoxication arrests
  • Two DWI
  • Twenty-three consumption citations
  • Three city arrests (city ordinance violations)
  • Eleven regulatory citations
  • Two-hundred and seven parking citations
  • Forty-one vehicles towed
  • Two warrants only arrests

The guy on the end of 5600 has had some issues in the past. As best I understand it he shot a guy peeing in his yard. Then the dude that was shot grabbed the gun and beat the homeowner over the head with it.

He retreated inside and the cops were unable to reach him. He has previously discharged real guns in the neighborhood (someone broke in his garage) so SWAT was called.

The dude is pretty famous in the area. He for no particular reason likes to dress up like the sultan of mercedes to do yard work in the summer. Full turban, flowing robes, etc. He also is known to shout at passing cars on Greenville for no particular reason. This has occasionally prompted a car or two to pull over and threaten to settle his issues in a more physical manner.

Did the guy peeing get arrested too for beating up the homeowner?

The Dallas PD were excellent for the section of Greenville Ave. we were at. As far as the guy with the BB Gun they knocked on his door for quite a while before they call any other support in. We were in the neighborhood where the guy went into the house. Who knows what else he had in there, the a-hole could have answered his door.

This isn't minority report and we shouldn't react based on maybes. The use of SWAT seems over the line. The police seemed to be doing their jobs and that is good news. The traffic was a nightmare, but I guess that's unavoidable.

Um, how do "Three public intoxication arrests at parade; one at concert" and "Concert crowd was estimated at 5,500 with no arrests" match up? Surely that one arrest is not no arrests.

It was amazing to be involved in this event. Seeing everyone from the inside of the parade from a float was simply amazing. Dallas put's it green on seriously. Thanks for the information.
