Ross Perot Tops Off Perot Museum of Nature and Science With Beam Signed By Ross Perot

H. Ross Perot puts his John Hancock on the beam before it's raised atop the museum that otherwise bears his name already.
With two years of construction and exhibit-building left before it opens its doors in Victory Park, the Perot Museum of Nature and Science got topped off this afternoon, with a ceremonial beam signed by Margot and H. Ross Perot and their sons and daughters who donated $50 million to the museum.

The $185 project's still about $30 million short, so after the Perots and Mayor Dwaine Caraway signed the beam at the construction site this afternoon, they retired to a party high atop the nearby Park Seventeen building with friends and donors who were encouraged to give a little more for the cause.

Architect Thom Mayne told the room how well the project's gone so far, and longtime board member David Corrigan reflected on the long and winding road the museum's taken to get this far.

Before making the call down to the construction site -- to "Move that beam!" -- Perot reflected on the sad state of American engineering compared to the rest of the world, hoping this museum might help inspire generations of young Americans to reclaim the lead.

"I hope this will be a big force to move Texas to the top quickly," Perot said. "You know who's at the top? China."

I voted for Ross in '92. Could never forget the phrase about NAFTA, "...a giant sucking sound."I wasn't aware, at the time, just what that could mean to America but now I realize how right he was. Our current economy is a result of NAFTA. Thank You Mr. Perot for trying.

America sure missed out when Perot was not made President.Federal Election Committee and the two party debate system and their stupid questions that have to be approved by dems & repubs and a flawed voting system where the Electoral College says who becomes president.......... DID IT.USA is not free speech/press/journalism.Perot was the ONLY patriot running and then came Ralph Nader the second patriot running for president......... our country missed out on two great patriots who were very capable of being President for the People of United States.

Corporations and Lobbyists won.We need a different election system -- if even possible now.

""The museum might inspire generations of young Americans to reclaim the lead". Hate to break it to you all, but Young Americans are NOT properly reimbursed anymore for busting their buns in college Engineering courses, Medical School or Teaching. How about some college scholarships for hard working young Americans?, Ross?

I wish we could get the '92 Perot to run in 2012. His council seems prescient today. Sadly, I don't think his boy can fill his shoes.

No telling where they've been, but how can you smell a picture?

No, if this was really a Dallas-style boondoggle, it would be a $30 million project that was $185 million short.

His boy can fill his shoes, but then they'd have to go in the trash.
