Dallas PD's St. Paddy's Day Do's and Don'ts

From Angela Hunt's 2009 St. Patrick's Day Parade and Party slideshow
It would appear The Hot Topic today is about how hard one can get their drink on at the St. Patrick's Day Party and Parade along Greenville Avenue Saturday. The Dallas Police Department sends word that one need look no further than the Central Patrol Division's website, which has the do's and don'ts for those attending the event, including a "general information" heads-up that says: "The Dallas Police Department will have an increased presence and will be Enforcing City Ordinance 6-6.1 which outlaws Open Container and Public Consumption of Alcohol outside the designated areas for this event."

That's the ordinance that says, "A person commits an offense if he consumes an alcoholic beverage outside the Dallas central area on: any property owned or leased by the city; or a public street or any public place within 18 feet of a public street." So's ya know.

Angela Hunt also mentions that in her note likewise posted to the DPD's site, which addresses other changes this year, including "more trashcans and portalets, increased police presence south of Belmont Avenue, additional enforcement in the 3500 block of Greenville Avenue." (Update: Hunt has posted a little more info here.)

And then, this just in from the Dallas Police Department:
The Dallas Police Department will conduct a No-Refusal DWI Initiative during the St. Patrick's Day Weekend. This initiative will begin at 6:00 P.M., Friday, March 11, 2011 and will end at 6:00 A.M., Sunday, March 13, 2011.

During this initiative officers will secure a search warrant for a blood sample from all persons arrested for DWI who refuse to voluntarily give a breath and/or blood sample.
Or, you could just go to the new Centennial on Lowest Greenville and get yourself a 1.75-liter jug of Old Fitzgerald and head back to the house. Your call.

Just another bullshit way for this broke-ass city to steal money to fill its empty bank. And dont give me any Avi-style "its a law. If u lived here..." There are shitheads everywhere, and plenty more people who can enjoy a beer in a dixie cup on the street and not incite shit. From the DISD board to tom's conv hotel to the "keys to the city" genius to jwp and a pattys day "crackdown", our city is fucked. Hard.

So you can bring beer or you can't?? The news story I saw made it seem like they will be cracking down more in the neighborhoods but the Parade route and Greenville Ave will be ok as long as you aren't acting like and idiot.

So now its a '0 tolerance weekend' too? Why is it they will do this for one of Dallas' biggest and coolest events but they did NOT mess with Super Bowl weekend? The state of Texas and Dallas are a joke.

Looks like no parade for me! I'll spend my hard earned money elsewhere where i won;t be harrassed by these clowns. Isn't there some REAL crime they should be dealing with?

Please know that Patty is considered short for Patricia, Paddy is short for Patrick (Padraig in Irish), it should always be St Paddy's when speaking of the man himself! With the expansion of DART there's plenty of excuses to use Public Transport this holiday season. God bless the Bus,Train & Cab drivers that get us all close to home for only a dollar or two! Park & Ride this year and enjoy the Parade, The Pubs & The Party!

And if one plays one's cards incorrectly at the Parade, one gets a scenic trip on the Paddy Wagon.

Did they continue with, "this initiative will stall at 6:01pm, when we realize that the judge we planned on has no showed because he's piss drunk from another party, and again at 12:00am, when the next judge comes on but we don't have anyone qualified to draw blood, etc etc"?

I'd suggested that it would be cool if the rugby team could get a game at Glencoe timed to coincide with the St. Patrick's day festivities, but that doesn't sound very fun.

Funny placement of RW's "stay home" quip right next to the "Dallas Observer Presents Toadies" ad.

Sounds like a tighter crackdown than we used to be subjected to in Jakarta.

Old Fitz it is.
