Council Candidate Says Angela Hunt "Embarrassed Our Entire City" By Walking Out During Tom Leppert's Farewell Speech

District 14 candidate Chad Lasseter
As he explained to us a couple weeks ago, Chad Lasseter has some grand ideas, including moving the Texas Rangers to either Fair Park or West Dallas and providing free Wi-Fi downtown. He also disagrees with District 14 council member Angela Hunt on a handful of issues, such as her votes to raise property taxes and implement a new Planned Development District for Lower Greenville. That's why he's challenging Hunt, along with three other potential candidates. (Only James Nowlin has officially filed thus far.)

In a statement e-mailed to us yesterday, Lasseter took his criticism of the incumbent council member one step further, claiming she made "a gargantuan error" when she left last week's council meeting during ex-Mayor Tom Leppert's resignation announcement.

"Council Member Hunt embarrassed our entire city by her actions and hurt us by her vote to raise property taxes," Lasseter said in the press release, which can be found after the jump.

Hunt offered no comment when reached by Unfair Park last night.

Last week during Mayor Leppert's farewell address Council Member Angela Hunt, who represents District 14, stood up and walked out according to a story in the "The Dallas Morning News".

"I was stunned by Council Member Hunt's behavior. I think it's shameful to act this way towards the Mayor of Dallas. I am sure she was embarrassed and regrets the vote she cast to raise property taxes on the hardworking citizens of Dallas that Mayor Leppert referred to in his remarks. That clearly was a gargantuan error and will set Dallas back instead of moving us forward," said Chad Lasseter, a candidate for Dallas City Council District 14.

Lasseter also said, "We need leaders to act mature and responsible. We need more civility at City Hall. This is just the kind of divisive politics we can't afford in our city. Council Member Hunt embarrassed our entire city by her actions and hurt us by her vote to raise property taxes. If elected, I pledge to be more responsible to the citizens of District 14 by growing our economy with jobs, not growing government with more taxes. Additionally, I pledge to serve the office with dignity and be respectful of others at City Hall."

District 14 includes parts of Turtle Creek, Uptown, East Dallas, the M Streets, Oaklawn and Bluffview. Chad Lasseter, 37, a businessman and resident of the Hollywood Heights neighborhood, was born and raised in Dallas County and earned his BA degree at the University of Texas at Dallas.

i understand that you are upset about her walking out, but i'm more upset about her lying to her district. She chooses when to lie, and when to be unabilable. i'll do what i can to help her opponent - anyone is better than Angela. She is definitely a bad representative for our city.

No, no, he's got it all wrong! It was our new mayor who embarrassed the entire city by giving a key to the city to the guy who totally abused animals and went to jail for it and then is trying to legally cover up a serious domestic incident at his home that he got the Dallas police chief involved in rather than calling 911.

Interesting ad hominem attacking this candidate. "D-bag tool", "Lightweight from Garland". Is there anything substantive you have with which to disagree? Or do I need to define the term "substantive" for you Hunt loving drones out there?

Chads backhanded jab might carry weight in the land of Gar, but this is Dallas.

Nice try, play again?

Why shouldnt Dallas try to bring the Rangers here? Friggin Arlington has the Rangers AND the Cowboys now. Old Mayor MIller took a swing and a miss with the Cowboys a few years back.

Wow...why are all of you so bitter? If any one of you would get off your ass and try to do something for the city, you could help out more than just trying to bash anyone that tries to run for office. Jesus...Hunt made some horrendous decisions in office, and Leppert probably hates her. So what’s the big deal? And if any of you would read, you would see that this dude has lived in the District for like 8 or 9 years, but was born in Garland back in the day, but just closed on his house recently. Were all of you born in Dallas County? I assume he rented in the District before that

I, for one, do not blame Angela for walking out on Tom Lie-ppert during his farewell speech. Our former mayor is the most untruthful conman ever to hld that office, and his departure came several years too late.

Angela gained my highest respect for showing disrespect to a charlatan like Lie-ppert, who shamed our city in ways not even guys like Don Hill and Company could ever have done. Who needed to sit through a disingenuous display of appreciation for the loser who straddled our city with the costs and losses we have encountered on the Trinity Toll Road Project, Trinity Corridor Project, Convention Center Hotel, gas well drilling (that we managed to stop for now) and other attempts to funnel money to his friends and political backers at the expense of taxpaying citizens of this city?

This guy sounds like he's running for student council, not city council. Rangers to Dallas? Free WiFi? Huh?! Is he not paying attention? About a new student lounge?

On the bright side, he has lovely skin, and he does a fine job of exfoliating.

I like it that Angela had the balls to do this.

Oh, ok. Now that Hunt walked out of Leppert's resignation speech Dallas should be embarrassed! I am pretty sure I can think of one or two things that embarrass me much, much more than this. I really wish this town would get serious about having some direction instead of what we have now. How a relatively small group of dunder-pates can turn a fairly large city into a total laughing stock is kind of funny, but much more scary.

If he can't see the irony of criticizing Angela when the Mayor is the one walking out early, that's just sad. This guy reminds me of the tea-bagger, poof of air that replaced Allen Vaught: more ideology than brain cells. Hopefully District 14 won't make the same mistake that Lakewood did.

Looking at generic Douchey McDoucherson here, I now better understand the appeal of Sarah Palin. She is one of the few Republicans that actually has charisma and you would want to talk to for more than 30 seconds without feeling nauseous.

Seriously, every single post is a bash. If everyone wants to encourage people to run for offices like City Council or Mayor, we need some better attitudes. If every candidate gets bombarded by hate, who would want to run? And if that is the atmosphere, we will have the same handful of folks holding down their positions every election until their terms expire.

He did not live in district for 8-9yrshe has lived in district for 4months.Just prior to closing on his house he lived for 2yrs in partyville aptments inside District 2, not District 14. Then before that he lived in aptmts up on Lovers Lane. Not inside Distrtict 14.He has never ever even once attended one city council meeting. He just moved to District 14 mid-Oct 2010. And, most importantly, he doesn't know shit about how city operates.

Run for office anywhere you want. But remember this: we vote for Angela Hunt here in District 14. And, we are glad you are running because it gives up opportunity to attend a lot of fun AH campaign parties. We look forward to these events. Last time around she had no opponent, so there were no parties. We miss the parties.

Thats cool. I live in District 9 too. The Rangers lease expires in like 6 or 7 years so there is plenty of time to work on the deal. BUT..if the stadium/money/fan base is right, I am sure they will move, so why not at east take a shot at it? It would be sweet to have The Rangers here.

DM, further, District 14 is likely the best educated in the city in civil process. The neighborhood has a bunch of wonks, not MBA's who know nothing of civil governance, nor of the public sector. MBA's are actually hugely ignorant, as part of an agenda best exemplified by the Chicago School of economics, and the theory that a corporations profits are the only thing that matters. They know nothing of the social contract, civil process, the effect of great wonky politician like Angela Hunt

OK. You are free to vote for whomever oyu choose, thats for sure. I do not dislike Angela, I just think she has been a polarizing force on the council and made some horrendous decisions along the way. What do you feel that Angela Hunt has done for District 14 that is so great? Other than to vote to raise property taxes and stonewall a huge list of important city. if you have feedback on her positivies, I would like to be enlightened.

scottindallas

because, that is not enough to justify it. So long as there are other munis willing to overpay, it likely won't make sense. Do you support paying a 1/2 billion to a private firm? The Bass Pro shops got 40 million more than it cost them to build that place. It might be a good deal, but more so if we are building coordinated infrastructure not giving the cash to the club. There are other ways to work it. The city could do a loan back where they essentially pass a bond and collect a greater sum in rent--this utilizes the city's ability to essentially borrow at a lower rate than Greenberg. There are several ways to do it, but some deals just aren't worth the cost.

Dallaskcdm

I just did some research and here is what I found out about Lasseter’s living history. Closed on a house in District 14 last fall. Before that lived for 2 years in a Lower Greenville apartment, just outside District 14, but next door to it. Before that he lived in The Village apartments for 4 years, which to my knowledge IS in District 14. So he is not a newcomer.
