Tomorrow, Mayor Tom to Say When He's Done

About an hour ago, Rudy posted a piece saying Mayor Tom Leppert's announcing his resignation tomorrow, during the city council meeting. But that doesn't mean he's ending his term tomorrow.

A little while ago I asked the mayor's chief of staff, Chris Heinbaugh, for further details. All he would say is: "Mayor Leppert will have remarks at the end of tomorrow's meeting. They will address the timing of the end of his term." Heinbaugh said the mayor will not step down tomorrow.

So, then, when? Those familiar with the situation say he'll resign by no later than Sunday.

I'm with you Clancey, I think he's leaving before the Spring rains. If god forbid we have a real disaster, and the world sees us with Dwaine C as mayor that will truly be sad. It will affirm some racial fantasies many harbor, and to think that this is and has always been a White run city. This folly of the levees was abetted by DMN and the powers that be. What's even more disturbing is that over $180million of the $250m bond allotment has been spent. That is a scandal.

So Tom Leper is gong to do a Sarah Palin and quit without finishing his term. And he wants to be a Republican Senator? Yep fits the bill-spend squander spend and squander.

Q I'd like all of you to answer: does anybody think Leppert has the slightest chance, especially against the Lt. Gov, whose staff says the kindest thing possible, "He's not nearly as weird as he used to be." This is gonna be an incredibly expensive race. Is it that Leppert wants to get out of Dodge before the Corp of Engineers gets mean, or does he actually think he has a chance to win?

Since it seems inevitable Mayor Pro Tem Duh-wayne will soon be Mayor Post Tem Duh-wayne, who is the Councilperson Pro Tem for District 4? Arthur ??? Archie ???

I was thinking about this last night, Tom's record as major hasn't been great and he is going to face some serious questions with his hotel and the TRP, now his last act as mayor is going to be putting Caraway in charge. Is that really a record he wants to run on?

Personally, it doesn't change my opinion of him. I don't think he has ever had the best interests of the citizens of Dallas in mind and quiting early and putting Caraway in charge is just one more "F You" in a long line of them to the citizens of Dallas whenever his, The Citzens Council or business interests were in conflict with what the average citizen needs, but say I was a conservative being asked to vote for this guy, all I think I could see is a socialist hotel, a horrible botched money pit of a tollroad kept going based on mistruths and then quiting his job when the city is on the brink of disaster, possibly quite literally given the state of the levies, and anointing a bumbling, incompetent fool to take his place.

Forget skeletons in the closet, Leppert's skeletons stand right next to him, Maybe he thinks he can put them in nice, expensive suits and pay some expensive makeup artists and that we won't notice. He might be right, I just hope that his senate campaign is his latest giant financial mistake, except one that the citizens of Dallas won't be expected to pay for.

@ John_Mckee - you are dead on, he never had the Citizens of Dallas at heart or put them first. Are you kidding me, the City of Dallas was a stepping stone to what he really wanted, deals with Jack Matthews/Matthews Southwest on the Hotel, etc....and a run for the Senate.

He could care less about Dallas, evidenced by his actions!

In Louisiana politics are spectator sports, candidates are elected on an implied promise to entertain.

Bro. Caraway, from all indications, ought to be a hoot.

Right up there with Pappy Trische, who opposed buying 50 gondolas to give tourists rides on Bayou Teche.

"Dat's a lotta bull-corn, you get you a Mama gondola, a Papa gondola, couple years go by, you got you 'dem 50 gondolas."

Pappy wasn' intentionally entertaining, merely confused. Like Dwayne.

Leppert will never be elected as Senator, way to many skeletons in the closet.

A couple of big ones, coming out in the next couple of months...........trust me......NO WAY.

Hope he has a secret too well-dressed, showtune-loving skeleton that can really dance in his closet. Now, that would be big fun in the TX Senate Republican primary.......oh baby!

I want to announce the first annual Caraway Dog Fight to be held at Archie's house on Saturday. All fighters must sign in by 11am and all bets placed by noon.

Bring your children, your preacher, and grand parents to watch us torture dogs and laugh as they kill each other. We will be giving away keys to the city to the owner of the dogs that live.

OH.....no white fuckers allowed.

Just don't park your car in the yard, the police don't want Caraway leaning on them to resolve the tickets later.

Will the City Charter allow the Mayor to resign mid-term (just because he wants to)?

Sam_Merten
Sam_Merten

First of all, this is not "mid-term." Leppert's term began in June 2007 and ends in June 2011.

Second, of course it's allowed. The mayor can resign whenever the heck he wants to.

I'm so glad I don't live in the City, or County, of Dallas but I do have dealings here all the time so this does have it's toll on me.

Chris, the portal to hell is the arch on the Calatrava bridge. Isn't hell described as having a foul, rancid and putrid smell?

Isnt allowing carried-away to be mayor one of the impending signs of the apocalypse? All im waiting for now is the weeping and gnashing of teeth, R.L Thornton to rise from the grave and the portal to hades itself to open up in front of Dallas City Hall. Mayoral election time cant come soon enough to depose this little midget..

Good riddance. It will actually be fun having Archie and Arthur's friend as mayor for a little while. Think of the entertainment value. I mean how much actual harm can that buffoon do as mayor?

Never know what's gonna come out of Carraway's mouth. He's a Marion Barry starter kit, and I love me some MB quotes.

"The contagious people of Washington have stood firm against diversity during this long period of increment weather."

"I promise you a police car on every sidewalk."

"If you take out the killings, Washington actually has a very very low crime rate."

"First, it was not a strip bar, it was an erotic club. And second, what can I say? I'm a night owl."

"Bitch set me up."

"I am clearly more popular than Reagan. I am in my third term. Where's Reagan? Gone after two! Defeated by George Bush and Michael Dukakis no less."

"The laws in this city are clearly racist. All laws are racist. The law of gravity is racist."

I, for one, welcome the prospect of being entertained by Mayor Caraway's Mouth for the next few months.

Its Mayor Caraway to the rescue! Pull up those baggy pants, don't mess with those poker houses of ill repute and leave my pals Arthur and Archie on the DL. Matter of fact...Go To Hell!

Maybe Mayor Pullupyopants will legalize gambling, keep all those South Dallas dollars at home instead of sending them to the injuns in Oklamahoma.

Robert, once Caraway is mayor (I shuddered as typed those previous three words) will you ask him if he intends to drop his opposition to the Wet/Dry referendum now that he is supposed to be acting on behalf of the whole city instead of just his district?

Hopefully, for his own sake, he removes the Pro-Tem status from Caraway. Otherwise, his senate race will end before it began.
