Angela Hunt Is Not Running for Mayor

Angela Hunt unveils plans for the new Planned Development District for Lower Greenville: one of her biggest accomplishments.
Will she or won't she? The prospect of council member Angela Hunt tossing her name into the mayoral race has been on the minds of City Hall followers ever since Mayor Tom Leppert announced that he wouldn't seek a second term.

She just told Unfair Park that she's out. Not gonna do it.

Why?

"One of the primary reasons is, as I've always said, 'It's not about what I want to be. It's about what I want to do and accomplish,'" she says. "There are a number of outstanding projects that I want to continue to work on that, frankly, I think I'd be more effective and accomplish more as a council member rather than as mayor. And that includes work on Lower Greenville, our 2012 bond program, redistricting, oil and gas issues and some other issues going on in my district. Second thing is, I think this council will benefit and be more responsive to someone who is not currently on the council serving as mayor."

So don't expect her on Ron Natinsky's list of supporters.

And what about her nearly 10-month-old daughter, Audrey Belle? Did she factor into Hunt's decision?

"My family factors into every decision I make, and, certainly, I took that into consideration because I want to be the best mother possible and the best wife possible," she says.

Our interview in its entirety is forthcoming in a separate item, in which she evaluates Mayor Leppert's term and addresses whether Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway should be stripped of his title.

Well played Angela, well played. I pity the fool who takes that job after Mayor Tom and the DCC have mucked up things as much as they have.

How much is this costing Gilbert Aranza to keep her on the council? If she gives up her seat, too many people out there that might get elected that won't vote his way. Hearing mummers that Ana Casey has already saddled up Griggs and has him tied to that hitching post.

....she has too many skeletons in the closet anyway.

In other news, Francisco Franco is still dead.

Good for her and good for EVERYONE in Dallas. We need a straight shooter who will have much more effectiveness behind the scenes. This is a big win for Dallas. Plus who would want to work for Mary Suhm as the real boss? OMG.

Translation: I didn't want to be on the wrong end of a Kunklenated landslide.

In other words, she likes her gig.

Dear California-born Tim Rogers,

Does this scoop also qualify the D.O. as a parody?

I was going to have a hard time choosing between her and Kunkle anyway. I think they'll work well together if we can get him elected.

Smart woman. Whoever the next mayor is will inherit a big old mess. I didn't think the mayor had much power in this city, but as Leppert has shown, never underestimate the power of the back room deal.

Can't be too many - after all, even Mandy Pepperidge became a Senator's wife.

Took F. F. a long time to die as I remember.

nothing like a well placed callback from the 70's.

Now we can get rid of Mary Suhm. The City Council and Mayor vote to appt. City Mgr. I suspect Scott Griggs will replace Neumann. We know Natinsky will be history. There will be more than enough votes to ship Suhm off.

It's amazing that the DO can get such scoops from Phoenix!

Don't assume. Neumann is a big ol' ho when it comes to getting the votes. He'll wear the brightest lipstick and highest hair to charm the voters. It always works. Scott is the MAN for the job but he's got to 'knock them doors' and 'press that flesh'. Suhm's contract is renewed each Spring. We've got to convince the council not to renew it. She is the core problem with Dallas. To those who don't want the 'strong mayor' type government, get over it. We already have it. It's just got a different name.Queen Mary.

Talked to her briefly last night and walked away thinking no. Now you've confirmed. Her view of the terrain for the upcoming Mayor's Race is dead-on and I know she's sincere when saying she's more focused on the job at hand and getting the projects and issues that are important to her resolved or at least clear for the future. Now, if we can only get a couple more really smart people around the horseshoe things may start lookin up.
