While I was writing the DART item below, about 29 Friends of Unfair Park forwarded along the freshest of hot-off-the-press tweets from Sports Illustrated's Peter King:

I'm telling you: I-30 between Dallas + Fort Worth is a plow-less, snow-windswept moonscape. This is officially a debacle.

At this very moment, King and Mike Florio are spooning in a twin bed at the Comfort Suites Arlington on the Road to Six Flags.

Good, hopefully all of this will keep the Super Bowl from ever coming back. Still amazed that the NFL apparently has more power than local, state or federal governments here.

Watching everyone sledding at Flagpole Hill on the news and what I want to know is, where is everyone getting these sleds?
I wonder how ESPN feels about being in Fort Worth now. Totally out of the loop of what little is going on, and they're not even broadcasting outside anymore. At least Dallas has DART, those poor people stranded in Fort Worth can't even get to a mall!!! The train got me from Garland, to Northpark, Mockingbird Station and downtown yesterday.
What happened to "This is nothing. Where we live we walk to school uphill both ways in 20 foot snow drifts." Whiny northerners....
Maybe I was fortunate. I drove up Plano Road to hike early this Morning at Spring Creek Nature Preserve, than down Central to my office at Fitzhugh. I took it easy, and really had no problem driving. It was beautiful to watch the snow first thing. Actually walking on the paved part of the trail was the most hazardous part. I slipped and fell 3 times, before it dawned on me to walk in the grass. There was a sheet of ice on the pavement under the snow.
Debacalypse 2011
Anybody else remember the Chicago Heatwave of '95? Over 700 people dead because it got over 100 degrees for a while. People in Dallas laughed it up, saying we couldn't take the heat. But Chicagoans don't invest in A/C in every building, because how often does it get over 100 degrees? Why would Dallas invest in a fleet of snowplows and salt trucks when it gets this much snow for maybe 7 days out of every 20 years? Personally, I'd prefer that the city doesn't waste my money on a fleet of plows....I can stand to sit at home for a few days every now and then. They've already wasted enough of my money on fake suspension bridges and a convention center hotel.
For those of us dumb enough to drive today....debacle sounds about right.
