Dallas ISD Serves Up Yet Another Very Special, Sad Episode of The Michael Hinojosa Show

budgetplanvideo.jpg
WFAA-Channel 8 ran an "exclusive" last night recapping some of the potential staffing cuts on Dallas ISD campuses, should the super's worst-case scenario become reality. Of course, those are the same grim numbers Dallas Friends of Public Education had already posted to its website -- cuts ranging from a possible 171 out of 412 full-timers gone at Skyline to 120 out of 150 let go from Townview. Most middle schools could lose more than 25 percent of their staffs; meanwhile, the TAG Magnet High School would keep all of its 19 FTEs. Right now, high schools could lose up to 1,237 full-timers; middle schools, 745; elementary schools, 1,049.

Yesterday, the district posted to Vimeo those videos featuring Michael Hinojosa discussing that "new reality"; as I understand it, DISD's prepping a website dedicated to the budget cuts that could run upward of $260 million, with these videos and other PowerPoints presented to the board as part of the page. Perhaps that's why the district posted yet another clip last night: Hinojosa's preliminary budget-reduction plan presented to the board on February 10, which is worth a look for those who didn't have the pleasure of sitting through it almost two weeks ago. It's on the other side.

Again, the city of Dallas working hard to promote the sparkling sisters-Collin, Denton and Tarrant counties.

I can't seem to remember a time in the last 10 to 15 years when the DISD wasn't having some issue with money, be it poor management or expensive bedroom furniture. Logic would seem to suggest that after a while "the powers-that-be" would get tired of this and fix the milk cow that the DISD has become and move the leaches on to another teat. That hasn't happened. I've come to the conclusion that "the-powers-that-be" have financial interests in Collin, Denton and Tarrant county; that's the only way I can explain why Dallas city politics remains in-bred and dysfunctional.

People just need to stop having kids they cannot afford. Im paying for your children to go to school with my taxes, so zip it.

Where is a Federal Judge when you need one? We griped that Federal Judges insisted they knew best for the District, insisted resources be allocated. Anybody noticed, things have gone to Hell since Barefoot Sanders shuffled off to that Great Shoestore in the Sky?

OMG! We can barely teach with 18 kids in the classroom, how do they expect us to do it with 35? Some of these board members need to come out of the boardroom and go to the classroom! This is ridiculous!

Come on, some percentage are being 'warehoused', we pretend they're going to learn something, is it harder to warehouse twice as many?

Does it really matter what the readers have to say anymore, other than the school board or decision makers?Just feels like I've heard/you've written this same item, oh, 6 times, and the same people say the same things. Can we move on until something honestly pivotal happens?

Teachers are getting pink slips and Schools will be closing while DISD wastes $22 million to demolish and destroy a historical school and neighborhood!

Our children deserve a better education! ~ Our teachers deserve better compensation! ~ Our schools and neighborhoods deserve consideration for preservation not destruction!

Note ~ DISD has already spent $2.6 million of our tax dollars when it remodeled O.M. Roberts just a few short years ago, and they STILL want to tear the school down completely and rebuild - only to bill its taxpayers again!

That doesn't make economic sense! In addition to the reckless demolition of the remodeled school, DISD has already succeeded in seizing some of the property in the Jubilee Park community. Now DISD is saying that it will keep those properties only to demolish to make room for a parking lots - right in between the remaining homes!

THERE IS AN ALTERNATE PLAN that would save tax dollars, but DISD refuses to seriously discuss the issue of an alternate solution or alternate site.

DISD's current plan for O.M. Roberts is wasting our tax dollars! Again!! It must not continue! We need your calls, letters, and/or emails to DISD’s representatives telling them that you do NOT want to keep paying for unnecessary new schools and renovations when the state of DISD’s education system is still in dire need of its own repair. We want their focus on improving the quality of education for our students and work on increasing the compensation for our teachers!
