Big Dick, Michael Vick And, As It Turns Out, Anybody Can Get a Key to the City of Dallas

Categories: City Hall, Crime

All Richard Hunter wanted to do was show Michael Vick his dog Mel. That did not go as planned.
Several Friends of Unfair Park have sent along the video that follows, in which two things of note transpire. First: Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway -- who'd take the reins should Mayor Tom step down before the May election -- is seen presenting a key to the city of Dallas to Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick at some Super Bowl party. Gene Simmons got one too, sure -- for his work with wounded warriors. But why Vick?

"Let me say this, in short: With me, with me, it's simply and only about the children," Caraway tells Unfair Park this morning, referring to the fact the downtown event was filled with "wayward kids." Vick's Super Bowl party was canceled over security concerns, though he did make an appearance in front of the Boys & Girls Club in Frisco.

Still, Caraway's not exactly sure where this took place, except at a "downtown club at 5 o'clock, I'm not sure where, we get shuffled around to so many things." He also knows the video's making the rounds: "They can send it -- it's fine." I see Rudy got it too.

But something else happens in video -- which was shot by Richard Hunter, better known as radio's own Big Dick. Hunter, as Richie pointed out last June, adopted one of the so-called "bait dogs" Vick used in the dog-fighting ring that landed him in prison. The dog's name is Mel -- and as Richard told Richie, "While Vick is pure evil, this dog is so good despite having suffered through such hell that he's truly changed my life." Richard went to the event to show Vick Mel's picture and confront him about the past -- which, as you'll see in the video, never happened.

"First of all, I do not condone animal cruelty," Caraway says, unprompted, when we spoke this morning. "I have two beautiful dogs that live better than me. But I'd like for you to understand it's simply about the children and the message that's going to the children -- the message of, 'I've done wrong, look at me, don't hang with the wrong people, don't go out and do drugs' and give the encouraging message to a bunch of kids at 5 o'clock. Whoever would challenge the fact, more of that is needed, and it gets beyond our personal likes or dislikes. It allows the children to see there's no reason for me to slip."

Miki Vick is a dick, pure and simple.  He needs to be treated exactly as those dogs were, including all his asshole assistants!  I would be happy to provide this service.  He is a peice of shit, no more, no less!!

Obviously Goodell hasn't actually listened to any of Vic's presentations. I don't care that this person is a football player, or black, or whatever. I care that his presentation sounded like he absolutely did not care about the message he was supposed to be delivering.

The man could have at least made it appear that he cared about his message so that the kids might also.

Why hasn't anyone asked this question: WHY did a Key to the City of Dallas get presented to a man who was (very unconvincingly) fulfilling his parole obligation of community service? How does fulfilling a court-ordered mandate entitle one to a key? And WHY did we choose to recognize that as something special?

In short, I believe the answer is that the Mayor Pro Tem wanted an excuse to stand on the podium next to Mr. Vic. MAYBE there really was something to the Mayor Pro Tem's point, maybe. But I note that there was no real mention of WHY the key was being presented - what the point of the presentation was - so that the merit of the whole thing was lost.

Unfortunately, because of the color of the individuals involved, there has been far too much made of racial this and racial that. Please understand that I care not what color the folks in this matter were. I care not even WHO these people are. I am offended that a city official stood in front of a bunch of children and provided accolades to a convicted felon who was in the process of performing his court-ordered community service - and who did a VERY poor job of doing that.

For that mater: who is reviewing Mr. Vic's performances to see whether he is indeed meeting the intent of the community service rather than merely providing lip service?

Dallas ruined football this year. Deal with it.

Why don't you have the actually video of Vick addressing the Dallas Youth listed in your article? Really cheesy of you to not put the real video that wasn't cropped and put together in a lame attempt to ruin good intentions of Michael Vick.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

It is crazy that no one seems to be bothered to mention that this was a wonderful EDUCATIONAL event for children. Richard Hunter broke into this secured teen party and twisted it for his own agenda. If you look Hunter up you will find that he is trying to gain notoriety or his 5 minutes of fame by doing improv that is racist and offensive as well as posting other videos of himself...

Dick. What did you want Vick to say to you that would have satisfied you? You were just poking at him hoping to get a reaction. Granted I thought it was foolish to give him a key to the city when people still have issues with his past behavior, but you were just trying to provoke him. Good for you, way to stand up for your beliefs! Guess what? People already have an opinion about Vick, one that probably won't ever change. However, I now have an opinion about you. Consider this the last time I ever read anything you publish as a "journalist." BTW, do you have a problem with all felons or just Vick? Would you have a problem with Martha Stewart getting a key to the city. Dick.

1. I agree that giving the key to the city to Vick was poor judgment by Caraway. I don't think his selection as a speaker was out of line because he does have a compelling story, but honoring him was out of line. 2. I'm really interested in what Big Dick Hunter's motivation was behind this as it really didn't tell me much about Vick and it comes off to me as half-baked journalism. My gut tells me that if Big Dick Hunter really wanted to have a conversation, he would have tried to get one in a more conventional setting as opposed to what came across as an ambush.3. I can't speak to the ins and outs of sociopathic behavior, but I try to think of Vick's crime without trying to tie it to other more heinous crimes that he wasn't convicted of (murder of another human, rape, child molestation). It seems that too often people are willing to make the jump to those more heinous conclusions.

"First of all, I do not condone animal cruelty," Caraway says, unprompted, when we spoke this morning. "I have two beautiful dogs that live better than me. Caraway is so full of crap. Vick is not repentant at all for his past. He puts on the public face he has to so that he can keep the only job he knows how to do. Vick failed a drug test when he was on trial. He was caught hanging out with his old posse, a felon, after he was released from prison and then lied about it. He hasn't changed AT ALL.

How many Dallas Cowboys have keys to the city? Where are the keys for Witten, Ratliff, Ware, and other current (and former) Cowboys who make significant contributions to children and are actually citizens of Dallas.

Big Dick - why do you think that ambushing someone and demanding he look at your picture entitles you to some kind of a response? If you were walking away from a media event and some random person followed you, your entourage, and bodyguards out to a car demanding to speak with you, you might be excused for getting to your car sooner than later. Just because you try a drive-by character assault and post some hackneyed video doesn't mean your voice should suddenly be heard. You're no better than Michael Moore. If you wanted to speak to Michael, you should have asked for the opportunity to do so as a member of the community. Show some class next time.

Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway just gave away the keys to the city, essentially the home of the Dallas Cowboys, to the current quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles who also happens to be a convicted felon animal abuser. The Mayor of Dallas just gave the keys to the city to a convicted felon still on parole! What an utterly stupid gesture bereft of even a modicum of common sense. And to top it off, Michal Vick is a thug hood-rat, with a knuckle dragging thug posse too apparently, who got off light for what he did and he has no business being employed in so-called professional sports representing an institution that used to carry the torch of professionalism, fair play, good sportsmanship, and honor ostensibly to be emulated by America’s youth sports participants and institutions.

What the he|| has happened to Dallas?! What the he|| has happened to the NFL?!

Geez!

Dallas gets dirtier by the minute these days. What is next? Free Limo rides, VIP Cowboy tickets, and free strippers all night for the next heinous child-molester? So glad I left that filthy city. Criminals on the Council, criminals in DPD uniforms. And, no one does a d*mn thing about it. So, I moved. Best move I ever made.

What pathetic journalism. I guarantee he adopted that dog specifically with the intent of parlaying it into a news article. And then he acts shocked that Vick won't stop to talk to a boorish, paparazzi-style journalist?

After reading almost every post on this subject I guess I'm missing the point of re-convicting Vick and denouncing Caraway. Everyone who has posted seems to be of some sound mind. But the sad thing is we all forgot what the event was all about. Teens who have made mistakes in life that live right here in Dallas that needed the motivation and empowerment to get back up and work to make better choices in life.

Dallas leads the country in the truancy and drop out epidemic. Since last week Dallas proved that the NFL and the world's biggest game was the most important thing in life...the why not a better person that Michael Vick to give the teens motivation on making a comeback. Teens are teens. Unfortunately the star power gets their attention because "we"..and I say "we" because if every parent or guardian was on point, then maybe Dallas wouldn't have the problem with our teens.

Caraway may not always make the best choice...but his heart has always proven that he cares for the youth of his community. Look around...how many other officials have made a weekly commitment to doing something to change the outlook on life for our youth. It may not matter to you...but this is the first generation of youth that won't accomplish more than their parents. I don't know about you but we talk about the great city of Dallas...but what about Dallas in 20 years when the Lepperts, Caraways and others are long gone and the youth that don't understand the value of a education or have fallen and decided to continue on a downward spiral outnumber the ones with a high school education?

Vick inspired the kids to make a comeback. Caraway rolled out the red carpet and thanked him with a key to the city for his commitment to Dallas youth. Can "we" move along and start figuring out how we can do things to help Caraway and others committed to the youth of Dallas who are failing? Clay Jenkins, Caraway, Dr. Hinojosa, Adam Medrano...they are all asking for support with our youth to start making an impact towards changing the trends. DISD is preparing to take one of the biggest hits financially in the history of education...teacher lay-offs, school closings...Dr. Hinojosa is going to need some help. Caraway has closed libraries and rec centers and he needs help. Jenkins is working to re-organize juvenile courts to help stop truancy. We may not like the way they're doing it...but if we don't step up to the plate and offer suggestions and support...we can't keep complaining when they do things. We elect our officials on election day but we have a funny way of not helping when they ask for it. Don't like how Caraway works with the youth in our city, then step up and help him!

Philip Johnson

So much time is spent judging others and throwing stones at folks. Forgive me if I'm wrong...but who has given us the right to play God? No man walking this earth is blameless of something that at some point in his life broke one of the 10 commandments. If God wouldn't cast a stone...what makes us higher and mightier than Him. When a person makes a mistake and has done the right thing to move forward...then the past becomes the past and God expects us to shut that door and move forward.

Let's see...Mayor Leppert made poor judgement on the Trinity River...the city's great hotel...so do we cast stones at him and put him aside? Last I heard he wants to run for a higher office.

Michael Vick for many is a great comeback story for the teens that he was talking to that afternoon. He fell down because of a grave mistake...paid for it...and got back up! Football is his career...so he proved himself on the field.

Its great that Mel is doing remarkably well today under the care and love of Hunter. But ask yourself...do we take abused children that are now living in foster care or with a new adoptive family back to the abusers to show them how well they are doing now? Do we take a woman who has been raped back to the rapist to prove to him that she has recovered? No! We pray and thank God daily that we had that opporunity to make the change for the betterment of that life. Because if we do things for change just to be glorified for doing so...then what's the point.

MICHAEL VICK IS A D**K.

PEOPLE WHO COMMIT HEINOUS CRIMES AGAINST HUMANS OR ANIMALS, SHOULD NEVER GET A KEY TO ANYTHING. THAT IS THE PRICE YOU PAY WHEN YOU COMMITTED THE CRIME.

BLACK, WHITE, BROWN, MAKE NO DIFFERENCE, IT IS HAVING COMMON DECENCY TO GIVE IT TO A WORTHY PERSON.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS AND DISTURBING, THIS IS OUR SOCIETY NOW.

P.S. THE MAYOR WAS 100% AGAINST IT, HIS SUCCESSOR CREEP-ED IN AND PULLED A FAST ONE. SNEAKY AND DISRESPECTFUL TO THE ENTIRE STATE OF TEXAS.

BTW, MR. CARRAWAY, THE JACK-*SS THAT GAVE HIM THE KEY THAT IS ON COUNCIL, WAS BUSTED RECENTLY FOR ILLEGAL GAMBLING THE HOOD OF OAK CLIFF. YEP, HE WAS HANGING OUT WITH EVEN MORE CRIMINALS DOWN IN THE GHETTO.

MR. CARRAWAY:

YOU'RE A DIRTY DOG. UNETHICAL AND SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM CITY COUNCIL AT ONCE.

WHAT IS NEXT? A LIMO RIDE, FREE COWBOYS TICKETS, AND STRIPPERS ALL DAY AND NIGHT FOR THE NEXT CHILD BEATER WE ARREST?

I just saw on the new that the freak Mayor Pro Tem has given Michael Vick a key to the City of Dallas. I am so furious I can't hardly breath. The fact that this devil did his time for the crime means nothing. If a child molester did his time and came out asking to adopt a child, would you let him. You stupid, stupid fools. I think Caraway needs to be thrown out of office, I hope the owner of the Eagles loses everything he holds dear, and the President of the ASPCA ought to look for another job. And most of all, I think they ought to all go through what the helpless animals went through....maybe a little electricution, a little beating, a little rape.....I think they should all hurt as much as the dogs did. You're all worms in the dirt.....and I hope you all go to hell real soon.

You come off as a semi-literate, angry young man who blames the world (i.e., Dallas, racists) for all his problems in life. Look in the mirror. And learn English.

Oh, and get a clue. The DA responsible for those false convictions is long dead. The current DA is black.

I think I can clarify some concerns from other comments. Torture of animals is one of the first indicators of a psychopath aka sociopath. "A person with an antisocial personality disorder, especially one manifested in perverted, criminal, or amoral behavior." There is strong data suggestive that he could escalate to those more heinous crimes that you mentioned. Or he could have found Jesus, repented, been penalized by our fair & balanced justice system & be a great source of inspiration to America's youth. I'd rather err on the side of caution with our youth & err on the side of risk with our politicans, Jerry Jones', lobbyists & dirty insurance companies.

Guest
Guest

I'm not sure I'm good with the message, "Hey look @ me! I tortured animals, did some time & now look how successful I am." Are rich athletes, especially convicted ones, actually the best people to be role models or inspirational sources to our youth? I'd rather give them field trips to the jail for reality education. Have them sit in on NA, AA & Anger Management classes. What's wrong with field trips to long-term care facilities & morgues. Rapid, cheap education requiring no testing or satisfaction test ratings without any keys to the city being meted out. One field trip educator says, "Hey look. One impulsive decision; just one choice to get drunk or try out drugs & presto, this can be you. Come on in if you want a closer look. Think it over & make your own decisons. End of presentation, back to the bus." Kids need broader life education in order to understand & take ownership of the consequences & long-term ramifications of their decisions. That's just way too radical for our schools who still run on hours originally defined by farming chores, I think. Again, I'm here to help. No one's asking.

Who says he paid his debt? Why wasn't this sick psychopath given life in prison? His debt isn't paid until the day he dies.

Lots of child molesters and rapists get light sentences, too. That doesn't mean society considers their debts paid.

I consider Vick to be as evil and sick as any molester, rapist, or murderer.

Carraway proves himself to be a fool.

Gosh, I sure wish Newbie Jenkins had of asked for help when deciding to keep empty courthouses open during ice storms when all of the school districts were closed. Employees choices were using up precious vacation time or getting their pay checks docked so they could stay home to take care of their "youth". The other option was leaving their "youth" unattended, risk injury, accidents, costs of deductibles & insurance rate hikes to make it to non-essential vacant courthouses consuming massive amounts of electricity while rolling outages impacted our sick "youth" & elderly at homes or centers in dire need of electrity for heating, breathing machines, etc.... I'm here to help. Frankly Philip, they aren't asking.

Handing over keys to the City of Dallas, Texas is supposed to be an honorary bestowal. It's great that Vick did his time & had a great comeback, But that can never negate that he still at one time in his life had a soul & lack of conscience that tortured animals. A rapist & murderer can do their Life Sentence in 15 yrs or so & parole out. I'm not signing up to carpool with them or invite them over for a celebration dinner. Really really bad judgment, just like so many other decisions. Elected officials, including presidents, really must start meeting some minimum qualifications before getting elected to governmental positions. But that won't change, nothing ever changes except more bad laws are passed, more transparent regulations are mandated creating more taxations.

Just fyi, I never hung, beat or burnt anyone. And factually, it was blacks selling blacks first before the whites bought in. Blacks, all women, all different cultures & colors and small children have been abused, beat, tortured & discriminated against. Without forgiveness, we lose humanity. What I don't understand is why nothing ever changes. We're still actually killing people in wars same as in ancient times; human trafficking is just 2 new words defining slavery; our political systems are corrupt & on & on & on. How long does it take for the human race to learn from the past, strengthen in unity & partnership & share equal responsibilities as caretakers of our planet, our starving, our sick, our elderly? It's depressing really, the progress seems to be prioritized for profit only.

Because a large portion of black people haven't forgiven anyone for anything. Fact is all the descendants of the slaves brought over here are far better off and freer than they would be if they had stayed in their homeland.
