Troy Dungan to Appear On ... Channel 11? Yes.

So, about that local TV news rumor to which I alluded below ...

Earlier today we got a call that Troy Dungan, the longtime WFAA-Channel 8 weatherman who stepped down in July 2007 after 31 years on the air, has been seen loitering around the KTVT-Channel 11 studios in recent days, briefcase in hand. Which prompted us to wonder: Is the bow tie back? Easy enough to find out.

I called KTVT director of communications Lori Conrad and asked her what the what. She said she'd find out and call back, which she did a few minutes later.

"Troy will be appearing on CBS-11 on a one-time-only basis next month, but he will not be doing the weather," she said. And, yes, next month means February -- "mid-month-ish," she said, not wanting to be too exact. "He's scheduled to appear, tentatively, the week of February 14," she said. Perhaps a Valentine's Day tie-in? Win a Date With Troy?

"No," she said, laughing, "but go with that. Actually, I do know what he'll be doing, but I'm not going to tell you. Because I want you to watch and see. It'll be fun."

I worked with Troy for four plus years at Channel 8 and he also assisted a non-profit I'm involved with. He's one of the kindest, easiest to work with people I had the pleasure of being with. A pro's pro. Dan Ronan, WFAA 2003-2007

Good points, good pointa. Santa's Helpers always makes me smile. Guess I'm the jerk today..sorry folks. Monday, you know.

I miss his measured forecasts. Anyone wanna bet that the cold front coming in will be another big dud? I'm so sick of the overhyped forecasts. Seems they missed the big snow last year and have so over advertised every other bout of flurries that stick to a few blades of grass.

mmm I think they are pretty spot on this one, unless the NWS, who they are getting their info from, is compeletely wrong (which has been known to happen)

Should be a nice change of pace for Troy from those cable access-level ads he's been doing for local electricians.

I watched Troy Dungan's weather reports pretty much every evening as a kid. I've since heard on good authority that he's sort of a jerk, which was disappointing. Can you check please?

I worked for WFAA, later Texas Cable News, and then Belo corporate. I can honestly say that Troy was one of the highest on-air personalities I have worked with over the years. Each Wednesday I attended Troy's bible study class held in the WFAA conference room (when you are Troy you can pretty much do whatever you want). I am not Christian, but no matter, Troy's prayer sessions were open for all. When Troy retired the mood at the Belo Dallas properities was grim- people were genuinely sad to see Troy go. I will say that when Troy was on-air, we made sure we didn't get in his way at all. He took his job very seriously (perhaps where the "jerk rumor" began).

Whoops - accidently liked that post by Andy when I meant to reply. I worked for Belo for seven years and didn't encounter Troy directly, but saw and spoke to him on occasion and he was just as Robert described. Never heard anyone at WFAA say a negative thing about him.

Andy, I don't know who I'd check with -- though I'll say this: My few interactions with him over the years have been nothing short of affable. And I'm sure the kids who benefited from Santa's Helpers over the years are probably big fans.
