Reason No. 23,328 Texans Aren't Like New Yorkers: U.S. Rep. Ralph Hall of Rockwall

U.S. Rep. Ralph Hall of Rockwall says that despite evidence to the contrary, why, sure, he's willing to take a few courses in "climate science." Because as he said during an Energy & Environment subcommittee hearing only last November, "Reasonable people have serious questions about our knowledge of the state of the science, the evidence and what constitutes a proportional response." And, dadgummit, he's a reasonable man. And now that he's the chair of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, well, hell, let's get to the bottom of this global warming whatchacallit once and for all.

Sure, sure, says former committee chairm Sherwood Boehlert, a fellow R from upstate New York who's a bit more moderate than the 87-year-old Rockwall High grad. From Climatewire, via The New York Times, this is how Boehlert describes the new man in charge:

"[Hall]'s from Texas, and I'm from the Adirondacks, and we see things somewhat differently," said Boehlert, now a consultant with the Accord Group on science, energy and environmental policy. "He used to kid openly at hearings that the chairman -- referring to me -- had never seen a tree he didn't want to hug, and [Hall] had never seen a cemetery he didn't want to drill in. That pretty much sums it up."

Believe me, I just moved to Rockwall, and Representative Hall's opinions are probably pretty darn close to the majority of citizens in this fine town. You are definitely in East Texas once you cross the lake.

Well, I guess a good starting point would be a consensus that drilling in a cemetery would probably not constitute a "proportional response" to global climate change, though I don't pretend to be a climatologist.
